We live up the hill from Gowrie. The property has been sold; it not longer operates as a B and B.

Out of all the B&Bs/Inns that we stayed at in Nova Scotia, this was the most expensive and the most disappointing. All of other lodging experiences were great, but our stay at Gowrie House was not. We were met with dead flowers on the porch ot The Caretaker's Cottage. The inside was not better - unclean, had maintenance issues in... More

Stayed at Gowrie House last week with my partner and mother. We could not have been more comfortable. Beautifully decorated, large rooms with air conditioning and anything that one would need. Delicious multi course dinner and full breakfast. The owner is truely charming and our stay was a highlight of our visit to Cape Breton.

What can I add to the glowing reviews already posted. Everything about this B&B is wonderful. We only stayed for one night before taking the NFLD ferry but will definately stay again and for longer next time - what a wonderful place it would be to use as a base for a few days.

We spent two nights at Gowrie House in Aug. 2007. Our room on the second floor, front of the main house, was Canadian $145 plus 15 percent tax, per night. Gowrie is truely a large old house (not sure about other buildings on the property) that is lavishly furnished with antiques or reproductions of antiques (we cannot always tell the... More

The Inn is picture perfect, with spacious rooms, but perhaps was a little better suited to the typical B&B client (an older couple), then a family with small children. One reason for this is that the rooms large enough to accomodate a family have stairs that can be pose a risk to kids. Also, the dining room isn't equipped with... More

The Gowrie House Country Inn is a very classy place in Sydney Mines. At times I wondered about stationing ourselves in this tiny town but soon realized that when sightseeing on Cape Breton, you're going to put many miles on your car no matter where your home base. Our room was decorated beautifully as was all of the public areas.... More

We enjoyed our stay at the Gowrie House. The location is less-than-perfect....meaning that it's not really in a city part of town, but in part of town that's residential, just a little difficult to describe. The public areas are beautiful. The room we stayed in was just a bit overdone for my personal taste; however, with that said, it was... More

My wife and I had a wonderful five nights at the Gowrie House in August. We stayed in room 7 and in the Caretaker's Suite. Both rooms were beautiful, comfortable and quiet. We dined each night at the restauraunt and enjoyed the great food and excellent service. We have stayed in several inns on both coasts of Canada and feel... More

What a great place. My wife and I stayed here twice once before going on the ferry to Newfoundland and once after coming back in July 2004. The people were great, the gardens beautiful, and the accomodations were fantastic. We ended up staying in 2 separate rooms during our 2 stays. I would highly recommend rooms 7-11 that are separate... More
