Blachford Lake Lodge, a family run business for over 30 years, is the only fly-in wilderness resort situated on Blachford Lake (60 miles south-east of Yellowknife). The 25-minute bush plane flight from Yellowknife is often considered as one of the highlights of a trip to Blachford. We pride ourselves on complimenting your northern experience with great food, a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and dedicated customer service. Our winter season (January to April) offers great opportunities to watch the aurora (northern lights), to go snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, ice-fishing or simply to relax in the hot tub.Our summer season (June to October) offers great fishing. Canoe or kayak under the midnight sun (June/July) or hike one of the many nature trails. By late summer (mid August) the aurora becomes more visible again and one can watch the northern lights being reflected in the water. Anytime, feel royally when you follow the paths that William and Kate walked during their Royal visit at Blachford Lake Lodge in July 2011.

I would like rate the place as follows: Location : 5 ( perfect for couples, families or friends), it’s on an island some 90km away from Yellowknife. You will be taken there on a small bush plane. If you go in winters it will and on ice and summers then on frozen lake. Which kinda new experience for me Arrangements : it’s just top notch . As being on such a secluded place, the arrangements were more than one can expect. 1. They provided us with a lot of winter gear (snow pants, jackets, socks, mittens , caps) - these are exactly what you need to withstand the cold there. Nothing else is required. We just payed for few items but they gave us everything which happens quite rarely . 2. The lodge is perfect to stay for couples , friends and families . They have individual 5 large rooms in lodge and 5-6 individual cabins . Each has 2-3 double beds. We were two people got a room in lodge to ourselves with a breathtaking view. I will suggest everyone to stay at lodge rather than cabins as the food is served in lodge cafeteria only. So in that much cold you will have to walk for 5 mins to reach lodge from your cabin and for that you will wear you all winter gear. Which trust me is a big task. Had this review from people staying at the cabin. 3. They were well equipped with all kinds of medications and professional to assist you in skiing, ice fishing and other fun activities. Food: you will have the unbeatable quality food served to you. I’m a non vegetarian and I love the food. Even if you are a vegetarian or vegan.. or allergic to something , just tell them and they will prepare dishes for you separately. The head chef Eva .. omg is great. Activities : 1. Skiing and snowshoeing : did pretty much on our own . They had snowshoes, skiing equipments and ice skated all for everyone to access anytime in lodge . So whenever you are in mood of any fun , just grab the equipment and go crazy 2. Ice fishing : the best thing that happened to me on New Year’s Eve. I was doing fishing for the first time and I guess beginners luck I caught one in just 5mins. It’s was so exiting. 3. Aurora: after all it’s a natural phenomena so they can’t control it but they will alert you any time of the day/night as soon as it’s out. We were lucky to witness it for a long 2hours window . It’s all in all a great experience. We went for New Years and This was the best New Years I ever had. It was free champagne, fireworks, bounfire and aurora. What more can one wish for!

We visited Blachford in January 2019. We are from Sydney Australia so this was a completely foreign experience for us. We hired the clothing from the team and were well fitted out. The flight was amazing and the 4 days and nights we stayed felt like weeks. We packed so much in. Heaps to do. 4 of us travelled. 2 teens, my wife and I. Pack light. You don't need much other than clothes for -40celsius. The lights are a once in a lifetime experience.

My wife and I spent 4 days/nights at Blachford in September, 2019. Everything about Blachford was awesome ... the cabin we stayed in, the Lodge, the staff, the food, the property/trails, the excursions on the lake, the wildlife. And the Northern Lights, which we saw 3 of the 4 nights. The flights in and out were excellent. Would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone. Make sure your camera is suitable for night pictures!

We went to Blachford for three days in early October for our wedding anniversary. Our trip was perfect from beginning to end. Friendly staff, warm & welcoming accommodation and terrific amenities. We particularly enjoyed walking the trails - which we needed to do after eating the chef’s superb food. Loved the hot tub as well. I was struck by the amenities available - from night lights to extra mitts and hats, everything was designed to make our stay as comfortable as possible. I would do this trip again in a heart beat - and will!

We stayed 4 days 3 nights in Blachford Lake Lodge and words just cannot describe enough such a unique lifetime experience. It was the first time we fly on the sea float which was amazing and we had chance to sit on the co-pilot seat. Wow! All staffs and volunteers in the lodge were super super friendly and the manager and his dog greeted us in person on the lodge. We were so lucky to be offered the point cabin which has the best view and we saw Aurora every night!! There were a lot of activities during day time and you won't feel bored. The area was so beautiful and picturesque. I would like to say thanks to Kris,Trisha, Alex and especially Sarah who woke me up every night when Aurora came. I am sure I would definitely missed the Aurora without her and I could not take so many beautiful Aurora pictures. Thank you Sarah, you did a great job! I am so lucky to stay in Blachford Lake Lodge and it was really an amazing experience that you should not miss.
