I would recommend traveling from across the globe to stay at Blachford. Very friendly staff, lovely accommodations (I chose to stay in a trapper's cabin), and wonderful food. Being able to cross-country ski at my leisure, head back in time for supper, and sit in the hot tub at -40 is something everyone should experience. Could not be better, in... More

My husband and i went to Blachford Lake Lodge in order to see the Northern Lights I had planned the trip around the moon phase, weather, time of year all in order to maximize our sighting. As it turned out, the weather became warmer than usual, thus causing cloud cover, thus eliminating the possibility of seeing the sky..we did get... More

Hi Shelley! Thank you so much for leaving this review. We're sorry that the lights weren't as spectacular as you'd have wished - but we are so very glad that you got to see them. So glad to hear as well that you really enjoyed all of our activities at the lodge. Thank you for noting the lack of homey... More

Just got back from a weeks visit to Blachford Lake Lodge in the NWT and it was definitely a 5/5 experience! Beautiful northern scenery, great fishing (including trophy size trout), and a rustic lodge with everything that you could need in the middle of the wilderness. Also remarkable service from lodge manager Amy who went out of her way to... More

This place makes you feel truly relaxed, cared for and comfortable. Once you get to the lodge, everything (with very few exceptions) is free to use including cross country skis, snowshoes, games, teepees, hockey, etc... You don't need to think about how much your next meal costs, you don't need to choose what you feel like eating, you can take... More

My brother and I went for a winter adventure. We stayed at BLL and every detail was spot-on. Staff were very friendly, the food was some of the best I have ever had (Frankie is a red seal chef), the weather was easy to dress for and BLL had anything we didn't, the activities were varied, the equipment was in... What an amazing experience! This was a First Class experience in every way! Every detail was very well thought out. Other than the lack of Aurora Alerts throughout the night – which I would have gladly paid for…. There are just not enough words to describe how much we enjoyed ourselves. The staff and volunteers go out of their way... More

This lodge has thought of everything to make the experience unforgettable. We stayed 5 nights in a cabin called Raven's Roost. To begin this trip, we took a 30 minute (give or take) bush plane on skis to the lodge, which was an experience in itself. Upon arriving at the lodge, we were taken on a tour of the property.... Everything was amazing at the Blachford Lake Lodge. They were very good from the time of the room reservation, reminding guests that we should rent warm clothing and gears for the extreme cold weather. Thank you so much for the wonderful review! It is a pain that our liquor license hasn't been renewed yet, but I'm glad that didn't lower your experience (and hopefully it won't be an issue much longer! We're working on it!). Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Blachford Lake Lodge, a family run business for over 30 years, is the only fly-in wilderness resort situated on Blachford Lake (60 miles south-east of Yellowknife). The 25-minute bush plane flight from Yellowknife is often considered as one of the highlights of a trip to Blachford. We pride ourselves on complimenting your northern experience with great food, a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and dedicated customer service. Our winter season (January to April) offers great opportunities to watch the aurora (northern lights), to go snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, ice-fishing or simply to relax in the hot tub.Our summer season (June to October) offers great fishing. Canoe or kayak under the midnight sun (June/July) or hike one of the many nature trails. By late summer (mid August) the aurora becomes more visible again and one can watch the northern lights being reflected in the water. Anytime, feel royally when you follow the paths that William and Kate walked during their Royal visit at Blachford Lake Lodge in July 2011. ... more   less
