I Changed rooms after first night, was given an upgrade, as my coordinator spoke to front desk, and I spoke to management as well. I enjoyed the upgraded room, but the bathroom floor was cold. Oatmeal was good.

About 20 min from the airport. Great shuttle service. Beds were comfy, the rooms and hotel were clean and well maintained. Convenient dining (with a good view of outside) and lounge, with great food. located right in the hotel. Staff was accommodating and informative. Also, would stay there again. I think the only thing missing, was a little store for toiletries and snacks.

Unforgivable trip and will recommend my friends to go and stay warm don’t sleep too much during stay and don’t be afraid to spend time and money. Probably it’s once a lifetime. Choose a good restaurant and hotel.

This was my third stay at the Explorer for business. This hotel and its amenities are consistently the best around. The rooms are exactly what you need after a long day in the cold (I am always there in Feb-March). Food and drinks are excellent but it is the staff that sets the Explorer apart from other hotels in Yellowknife. They seem to communicate very well with the diverse groups that travel here. The brightest star that I have met is Skye, she has worked in the lounge each time I’ve been there and she always makes us feel welcome.

The hotel is conveniently located approximately 10 minutes from the airport and is centrally located to coffee shops, restaurants, Prince of Wales Heritage Museum as well as Old Towne Yellowknife. It is also on shuttle route for Aurora lights viewing. The rooms however need updating including updating the lighting (rooms are dimly lit with only 2 table lamps and a wall sconce at the entrance). Housekeeping is poor in that beds are not made. New towels only and the garbage cans emptied. We had used the coffee mugs provided for instant oatmeal. Unfortunately they were not cleaned at all and placed back in the coffee centre dirty. Reception desk above average.

90% is great. It's the 10% that will make you pause after you have already left. Sometimes your office may book you in and it may come with breakfast. Here's the rub, hopefully your office will tell you otherwise - how do you know? The check in people may forget your breakfast ticket (if it's not forgetting it's called skimming fraud) each morning you are present. If you did not get it on time then ask for personal compensation. As well, do not forget to ask for Teacher discount, AMA discount, or senior discount when booking for yourself. If you do not ask, they will not offer. The room is clean and modern, food is wonderful, breakfast is the same every day but well put together. It is always busy, sometimes even loud neighbours due to thin walls. Would I stay here again - yes, knowing what to say at check in will help me. If you forget to ask for anything, talk to the manager when you remember. As well, the lounge bar staff are wonderful. Dear conference staff - if you offer yogourt make sure spoons are available- three days in a row. In an emergency route to Calgary the week before, I stopped here between flights and it was full - the front staff refused to help me expect to say there was another hotel further down the road. (I even put myself at the end of the line so we could talk without pressure.) The front staff stick to their job responsibilities. I had to search for a hotel at 10:00pm in a taxi. Front staff is not friendly, they are robotic. They should offer thin pillow as well (overstuffed pillows will put a crook in your neck - I will ask for next time).

I was pretty impressed by the organization and cleaniness of the hotel. No issues at check-in or check-out. The front staff was great -- I emailed reservations a few times requesting for 2 rooms, with one room hopefully situated on a higher floor facing the back side view (known for aurura sightings). We were given rooms 605 and 610, with room 605 facing the back side of the hotel. We were treated to a great view of the aurora at night -- so amazing to see it right outside the window. My sister had room 610 which faced the front side, also great for watching the sunset every evening. So, we got the best of both worlds! The temperature had dropped to -55 with wind chills during the week we stayed in January. Because of that, we dined at the hotel a lot since it was too cold to venture out. The staff was always pleasant and friendly. Food leaned on the saltier side but was still decent. The free shuttle to and from the airport was also very convenient. I'm told by locals that The Explorer is the best hotel in town. I would stay here again in the future!
