great location, close to the water, restaurants, bars and pubs. Free parking especially with tourists trying to get downtown for night-time activities. A few short comings, couldn't get a working TV remote for the 3 days there, only ONE Keurig coffee machine for the entire hotel at breakfast, some of the quaint is now old.
Sandwiched as it is between Harbour Drive and Water Street, the Murray Premises is near everything. It is a National Historic Site, has ample parking, and a convenient self-serve breakfast room. We had a very generously-sized room on the 4th floor, but given that it is a heritage building, it is not entirely accessible (we had to carry our luggage up from the 3rd floor). Although clean, it is showing some wear and its decor needs to be updated. In addition, the lighting in our room was insufficient, We would stay here again given its great location, but realize it may not appeal to everyone.
Second time we stayed here and were not disappointed. Our room was quiet, clean, and had lots of wood - ceiling, floors, pillars, a view of the harbour. We declined daily room service as we were only staying for 2 days. The hotel is centrally located within easy walking distance of many shops, attractions and restaurants. We ate at Evoo, a restaurant on the premises, and it was lovely - a reservation is a must. The continental breakfast was enjoyable and a nice way to start the day. Highly reccommend
Perfect location, walking distance to everything. One of the nicest heritage hotels I have ever stayed in. Rooms were clean and spacious. Reasonably priced. Very good continental breakfast included. Courtyard and in dining was not the best. Has laundry self serve service in another building. Fairly good parking if you have a car rental. Would go back for sure.
Great room, king bed with a sitting area. Close to restaurants and other sites. Also easy to leave St John's for day trips. Friendly and helpful staff who were most accommodating when we had a potential car problem that might have resulted in an extra night's stay.
Room was spacious and clean. Only complaint would be in the bathroom, tap broken, mismatched light bulbs and hinge missing on toilet. All the staff we encountered were friendly a shout out to the newcomer from the Ukraine and the maintenance man. Proximity to downtown was great, very walkable. Breakfast was just okay. Need a few more gluten free options and lactose free yogurt.
I would echo most of the positives people have expressed in other reviews. And like others I would note that some updating is overdue i.e. worn carpets, threadbare bathmats, skimpy towels. But overall it's a great value for an attractive heritage property in a harbour-front location. One major issue which is not the hotel's fault: if you are staying on a weekend and have a courtyard-facing room be prepared for loud music from the Water Street and George Street bars until 3:00 a.m. which is their closing time. Water Street is a pedestrian mall in the summer and all the bars have expanded outdoor patios with large sound systems. It's a barrage of noise. Ask for a room on the front side of the building or bring heavy-duty earplugs!
I love accommodations with rustic character! We had a room facing the harbour for our five night stay. A queen room, with a huge bathroom, jacuzzi tub, robes, mini fridge, desk, and chairs, and an electric fireplace for ambience. Continental breakfast included every day, free parking, great staff, two restaurants attached to hotel, big court yard in the back with a bar, court yard attaches to the pedestrian mall on Water Street, and 2 blocks to George Street. Great view of harbour and close to so many restaurants. We watched some frigates and yachts arrive in the harbour. So glad we chose this spot! Highly recommend if you are looking for a place in St. John's!
A well-appointed hotel with a rich history. Our room was definitely heritage but also came with modern amenities like a hot tub. The location on the downtown waterfront is perfect for exploring St. John's.
Checked in on July 26th 2022 and spent 2 nights. The hotel is beautiful with a great location. Room was lovely... not sure if I will ever get over having a shower and tub with a glass surround though. Open view to the rest of the room. Unfortunately, the second evening and our last day in Newfoundland, our car was broken into. A very expensive drone and Ipad were stolen from our locked vehicle. The parking lot is run by the city but the hotel does have cameras in the lot. But of course, the area in the lot that we parked in was not covered by the cameras so no footage. Contacted the police who advised to file our report online. We waited for the police to come but never did. So be careful where you park in this lot and make sure nothing of value is left in your vehicle! Sort of ruined a perfect holiday. This hotel is located downtown St. John's.…
