I stayed alone at the Amethyst Inn for a week in June, 2013. My main reason for choosing it was its proximity to the Jubilee Hospital, where my husband had unplanned surgery while on a business trip. It was a stressful week and Matthew, the innkeeper, really made things a little easier for me. I arrived late at night and...

This wonderful Victorian B & B was perfect in every way. The service was beyond what we expected. Matthew arranged to have a bouquet of Stargazer Lillies (My wife's favorite flower) and a personallized anniversary card in our room when we arrived. He recommended the perfect horse drawn carriage service to pick us up at the ferry and deliver us...

Beautiful mansion filled with Victorian antiques. Our room was on the top floor, which consisted of two large flights of stairs, brings back memories of B&B's in France and Italy. Room was small for two people, but very clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast was tasty starting with mango and berries with yougurt, juice, coffee all served on old English china....

The Amethyst Inn is a beautiful old mansion with antique furnishings throughout. The inside and outside of the property are beautiful. Each room is decorated with unique furniture and very functional. We were very disappointed with the staff -- they were almost invisible. If you phone, you get an answering machine; if you need to speak to someone to ask...

I stayed here in May 2012 and was awed by the service and room quality and beauty. The breakfasts were positively gourmet - 3 courses each morning, with something a little different each time. The owners and their children lovely and accommodating. The breakfast room and parlor were just beautiful, with the antique lamps, pump organ, and original carpet from...

The building is incredible in a fantastic neighborhood (it is worth visiting it by foot, the ancient mansions are awesome). Very nice rooms and clean, excellent breakfast. I had to get up early one morning for it was my graduation from university of victoria and the staff was able to accomodate me with an early breakfast, which was very much...

We stayed here four nights. The building is lovely but the service had some odd moments. The breakfast room had no heat although the outside temperature was 10 degrees. It would help to have a printed list of the menu offerings because the waitress wasn't forthcoming with options unless pressed. For example, when my wife declined an omlette on our...

Second stay for us at this Inn and will return. Beautiful rooms with high cielings, wonderful breakfast served every morning, amazing staff. The Inn is located about 2 miles from the center of Victoria so might want to have a car Highly recommended.

We agree with all the compliments about this Inn that the other reviewers have given. But unfortunately, our visit was seriously marred by the weather - something that we did not anticipate, and the Inn was not equipped to handle. We stayed at the Inn for two nights during the first week of August. Victoria was unexpectedly hot. Our room...

We love character inns--we go out of out way to stay at them. The amethyst was lovely on first appearance, but once inside the room kinda average. Perhaps we went in with too high expectations but the room really was just old not really special like the Gatsby Inn. The breakfast was excellent but the hosts made you feel at...

“The top floor rooms, although beautiful, are a bit smaller due to peaked ceilings. If you are tall this may be a bit of an issue. All the rooms are beautifully appointed. As it is a Victorian house, there are no closets, but large wardrobes are provided. There are a lot of stairs and no elevator, so if you have mobility issues this may be a problem.”

“If you have mobility issues do not stay in Room 13. You have to climb over a 3' high wall to get into the small tub or use a slippery tile step positioned off to the side.”

“I would try the free standing rooms OR one of the upstairs rooms. NOTE:I don't believe there is a pool or fitness center but my stubborn iPad won't allow me to leave those 2 categories empty, so I left them at par with the other categories.”
