Now, here is a boutique Inn that does it right. History- check, Great Rooms- check. Friendy Service- check. Hedy greeted us with a friendly smile and made us laugh at his comments and humour. Never has there been a better desk manager. Great restaurant, pub and coffee right there!! Close to everything. Value for the money! What more can you ask for? Go!

Hotel's Favorite
We just returned home after a week long stay at the JBI and I couldn't have been more pleased with our stay. We were warmly welcomed on Christmas Day and the front desk staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Yes, it's an old building with a few quirks, but that just added to its charm! It was nice having the coffee/tea/water in the lobby so that we could interact with other guests (who were often in pajamas!), and I appreciated all of the historical pictures on the walls. It felt like going back to a more simple time in history, and I loved it. Being on the third floor, I also got a great workout every day going up and down the stairs!! I would highly recommend this hotel if you are interested in something a little different and can tolerate stairs, since there is no elevator. It is also walking distance to so many great parts of Victoria - Dallas Road, Beacon Hill Park, The Empress, Fisherman's Wharf, and a 24 hour grocery store is a few minutes down the street. We will definitely stay at the JBI again!

Thanks for the great review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed staying with us. There is no elevator in this hotel in order to preserve the integrity of the building’s character, and it’s great that you saw the stairs as an opportunity to work out. We would love to see you again! Take good care.

Our second time here. Still a great location walkable to sights and in a quiet residential area. Staff is very friendly. It was busier this time around so we could hear people in the hallway or slightly hear tvs from neighbour rooms. It's an old hotel and we love that. Some of the floors slope... It's very well maintained. Our room was clean and the bathroom is very spacious. It could use a fan though as it steamed up from our showers. Also we found that the shower water pressure and temperature would fluctuate sometimes. The room has a mini fridge and a good flat screen tv. You have to request for a hairdryer if you need one. Notes: There is no elevator. There is not a in-room coffee maker (we didn't miss it but others might). Parking is included. Cafe downstairs is good. We had breakfast there both times. The pub downstairs is good too. We enjoyed sitting on the shared patio, just the two of us but there are chairs enough for five or six. Overall a pleasant stay and we would stay there again.

This place has so much charm. Well kept rooms. My fave place to stay, I don't know why we try anywhere else. Don't want to tell anyone because then they will be booked up, no room for me. I will be sad lol - like the fact that there is coffee in lobby, you can sit in the hallways and take in the history, it's peaceful and quiet for the most part. Friendly concierges, just wonderful.

My partner and I stayed here for the night on our road trip, but wish we could have stayed much longer. The hotel has been here for over 100 years, but they've managed to mix a perfect blend of the modern necessities and old aesthetic to suit everyone's needs. When we arrived we were greeted by Heddy, who was charming and couldn't have been more helpful. Once we had settled in and headed back down to the lobby to leave for dinner, Heddy was up and out of his desk to ask if our room was up to standard and if we needed any recommendations for the local area. He really made us feel welcome and went above and beyond. We left the Inn with smiles on our faces, this was due to the great accommodation but mainly because of our experience of meeting Heddy. Thanks Heddy you're awesome!
