We enjoyed an incredible stay for 10 days, for many reasons: the communication upfront and later the care is of an intimacy like good old friends. The fully-cooked breakfast is extraordinary - freshly prepared 3 courses, with no repetition at all. Specicif wishes or needs are fully considered. The room superb - please don't expect room or bathroom directly comparable with a brandnew built hotel! A perfect location allows discovering Vancouver by all means - Haro street is lovely, quiet, but really in the centre of posh Westend.
We stayed in the West End Guest House for 5 nights before picking up the Queen Elizabeth for a 13 night cruise of Alaska. We usually stay in a hotel but decided to try something different and are we happy that we did - most certainly! We arrived quite late but had no trouble entering the property and finding our room. Our first impression was 'wow' what a beautiful house or should I say home. Our room was perfect in every way, clean, well maintained and everything we needed. We were really happy to have a ceiling fan as we do not always like air con. The lounge/dining room was warm and inviting, the attention to detail was amazing, every morning we had a different table setting with napkins folded in different ways each day. There was an area where you could make your tea or coffee, a fridge with soft drinks in it, just about everything you needed was there. We were made to feel so welcome by Paul and everyone who worked alongside him. Barb made us laugh each morning she was on duty, what a character and wonderful baker, she would bake cakes and leave them out for everyone to have - she would say 'don't go having dessert tonight, come back and eat my cake' - which we did!! For breakfast you were given a muffin which had just come out of the oven followed by a cooked breakfast. On the first morning I mentioned to Paul that I would like a low fat breakfast and from that moment on I got one. I thought this was over and above personal service. We had a truly amazing time here, we cannot find one fault with our stay other than it had to come to an end. We would highly recommend the West End Guest House to follow travellers for comfort, service, great location and hospitality. Well done Paul for a most enjoyable stay, we also loved our chats with you. All the best for your future with this business. Hazel and Dave…
It was our first time in Vancouver, and we feel like we won the lottery by booking a stay at this property. The top-floor room was comfortable - we wanted for nothing - and the breakfast each morning is absolutely the BEST I have ever had at a B&B! Parking was convenient, the fellow guests were wonderful, the location ideal, the house beautiful and the hosts and staff professional, helpful and kind.
We had 4 couples traveling together and we all spent 2 nights here. It was awesome. The house is beautiful and very well maintained. Paul was so nice and accommodating. Breakfast was amazing and there was always a homemade treat waiting in the evening. Only thing to take in to consideration is there is no air conditioner-which is the norm for Vancouver. Fans are provided though so I slept in comfort. I’d recommend West End Guest House to anyone looking for a place to stay-it’s also walking distance to many restaurants and stores!
I was traveling alone so it was nice to stay in a B&B vs. a hotel. Breakfast was amazing and everything was very clean and professional (clear communication, easy check in, they can help you print out documents if needed). Would def go back!
Every thing was perfect.the location, staffs, cleaning of room and house,breakfasts...thanks Mr Paul and Mr David and another persons how made for us this satisfactions.we felt lije as our home,we were very comfortable there.
We stayed at The West End Guest House for 2 evenings at the end of June. David and Paul were wonderful hosts and the location of the BandB was close to downtown and all the things we wanted to do. Paul makes a mean Breakfast - we would definitely stay again.
We stayed for 2 nights before an Alaskan cruise and 3 nights post-cruise. There are big chain hotels right on the cruise terminal at Canada Place, but we chose the West End Guest House for a more relaxing and personal stay - and we were not disappointed. The guest house is about 30 mins by car from Vancouver International. You arrive into a quiet, leafy street to a beautiful timber heritage house. We got there around 8.30pm - there is no reception but with excellent communication and the door code sent in advance this was not an issue. The first thing you notice when you enter the house is the beautiful decor and furnishings - and the tranquility. We had a King suite at the top of the house - spacious, lovely traditional furnishings (huge comfortable bed, large sofa,, chest of drwers, TV, and plenty of storage space for clothes and cases), a well appointed en-suite with a large shower.and complementary toiletries. This was up several flights of stairs, so if mobility is an issue - tell Paul or David. Breakfast is served in the exquisite dining room on the ground floor - either on a personal table (if you are solo or couple) or a lerger shared dining table which is a good way of getting to know some of the other guests. The small kitchen has tea and coffee facilities, cold fiiltered tap water, ice machine, complementary soft drinks - and the very moreish freshly baked muffins. If you are really lucky - Barbara will have made some of the best lemon cake you will likely ever taste. Sadly I missed the cake but having told Barbara how much I looked forward to it - when I opened the fridge - joy - two pieces with my name on them. This was typical of the personal attention you get in the guest house. Breakfasts were leisurely, large and a mix of healthy and sinful, freshly cooked and tasted amazing. Carmen (another treasure you will encounter at the West End) always greeted and served us with a smile, The guest house is in a perfect location for exploring Vancouver. We mostly used the hop-on - hop-off bus - the nearest stop is an easy 5 miniute walk away on Robson St where you will also find shops, bars, eating places, a large drug store (London drugs) where you can by those toiletries you forgot). Stanley Park and English bay are about 20 - 30 minutes leisurely walk away although you will need to walk up a succession of hills - not too difficult if you take it easy. Took a taxi to Canada Place to meet the cruise ship - 1.6km away. Will cost you between $9 and $15 (depending on the route taken by the taxi). The West End is owned and run by Paul and David - two iof the nicest, most helpful guys you will ever meet - if you need help or information - just ask - it is no trouble. Need to leave your cases - no problem - in fact, nothing seems to be too much. We arrived back early morning from our cruise - they gave us coffee, muffins and prepared our room ready first - it was ready by 1pm. Would I recommend the West End Guest Hose - without question, it was everything we wanted - and more. There is a review with the title 'Home awy from home' - couldn't have put it better..…
It was my first time visiting Vancouver and I’m happy I picked the West End Guest House! This bed and breakfast is a gem. Beautiful house with unique antique style. The bedroom and bathroom had beautiful designs and the bed was comfortable and cozy. The staff were super friendly and accommodating during my stay. The breakfasts were delicious and they offer a togo breakfast sandwich if you aren’t able to make the set breakfast time. Very flexible. I enjoyed the best baked muffins and cakes while staying there. Great location in downtown in a lovely neighborhood. Close to a lot of main attractions and easy access to transit. I had a really great time staying there by myself and will recommend to my friends and family. I hope to be back soon! :) - Eliza
Wow wow wow, where do I start, we turned up at this little gem hidden away for 9 nights and we stayed in the garden suite and used the main building for breakfast, the decor was very nice old but new fashioned and the host Paul Wylie and his team were absolutely brilliant very helpful with any information that we required for things to do and see. The breakfast was good and the coffee was free flowing. Would I recommend the west end guest house???? Yes we would absolutely Definitely 💯
