Harking back to the days when the West End was Vancouver’s first residential neighbourhood, the 1906-built West End Guest House was once home to the Edwards family – some of their photographs of early Vancouver adorn the walls. Current owners Paul Wylie and David Birch have modernised the interiors and plumbing (all rooms are en suite), while retaining a period charm. The eight individually styled and named guest suites range from lush garden level (Superior King Garden Suite) to cosy top floor (Deluxe king Suite). Complimentary gourmet breakfasts, free parking for each room and free Wi-Fi add to the charm. It is on historic Haro Street, with easy access to the nearby Stanley Park seawall, or Davie and Robson Street shopping areas. The parlour with hearth is ideal for winter contemplation, while the veranda and garden beckon in summer months.

We spent a delightful 5 nights at West End Guest House at the end of September. With it’s convenient location, WEGH is ideally placed to explore the city. The house itself is warm, inviting, and beautifully decorated with each room having its own personality. The hosts have clearly put a lot of love into creating an environment where guests feel comfortable and relaxed. They have also taken great measures that made our stay feel natural and safe during this period of uncertainty. Breakfast was delicious and we looked forward to the breakfast sandwich and fresh baked goods each day. Our host Paul was friendly, helpful, and provided excellent recommendations on local restaurants to eat at. We look forward to another visit to WEGH next year.

The West End Guest House is very convenient to Downtown and Stanley Park. It was a close walk to everything, restaurants etc. We really enjoyed the deck off of the superior king room. Parking was ample and easily accessible. Even though it is a 100+ year old building, everything is tastefully updated and decorated. We will be staying here again.

Welcoming, clean, quiet and yet it is right in the middle of things. David and Paul were very considerate. Breakfast wonderful and loved our room. These two (and their staff), put in 110% effort to make you feel welcome. Would definitely book again. Thank you. WIFI, parking and breakfast were included at a very reasonable price.

My girlfriend and I stayed two nights at the the West End Guest House. It was nothing short of amazing. Paul and Kevin were great hosts. Their guest house is an extension of their warm and welcoming personalities. They made us feel very comfortable during these challenging times. The linens and decor are exquisite. The breakfasts were delicious. Nice variety and very tasty. Easy access to Stanley Park (where we rented bikes) and Coal Harbour. Surisingly quiet and a great sleep. Would highly recommend for a quick getaway or even a business trip.
