If it's cold make sure to turn on the radiator first thing. Nice room. You get what you pay for. Staff was nice and helpful. Located in a good spot of town. Prepare to pay 20 dollars a night for parking if you have a car.
I've left reviews for the Buchan hotel on numerous occasions. Always glowing, because we absolutely loved it. It wasn't fancy but, it suited us. I'm afraid, since ownership changing hands in 2018, we can no longer continue to recommend it. We’ve highly recommended Buchan to all friends and family and know for a fact that many of them, too, have become loyal Buchan fans and guests. That is about to change because, after our stay with Buchan this week-end, we can no longer say that it provides value for money. In fact, we feel completely and utterly ripped off. When we were told, when booking last Fall, that major upgrades were happening we were happy. We didn’t think it was really necessary, as the hotel’s charms lay somewhat in its creaky nature. Always, always, sparkling clean though and with wonderful staff. When we finally received our booking confirmation, months after enquiring, it contained a bit of a shocking price increase. In the area of 50% for the Saturday night and about 40% for the Sunday night. Okay, we thought, maybe they’ve put that much money into upgrades that the prices will be justified and we’ll be able to remain loyal guests, because there would still be value for money there. Wow - what a complete and utter disappointment. Our room, the “deluxe” king, had perhaps been repainted. Nice bedding. As usual, very clean. That’s it. That’s all. Still the same concrete mixed with washing powder hand soaps that we used to find retro and charming - at $90/night. Still the same scruffy carpeting, useless TV and equally and more importantly frustratingly crappy WIFI. Again, all forgivable, at $90/night. At $90 - it was still great value for money. At $160 - NOT! Contrast that with our friend’s room, with a harbour/mountain view, at the Pinnacle Waterfront Hotel, for $180/night. Superb location, view, amenities, in-room everything, stylish bathroom. Beautiful. Suffice it to say, when we return to Vancouver, we’ll be booking elsewhere and we'd suggest all friends, family and, TripAdvisor review readers do too.…
Great little hotel in the quiet West end. Always friendly. My first choice, all things being equal. Close to transit and lots of good walking in Stanley park. The front desk is always willing to help you out any way they can. Great Italian restaurant in the basement makes it as restful as you want or slip uptown and take in the BIG city 5 minutes away.
Overall a good cheep room not too far from town. The room could do with some renovation and pillows replacing but kept clean, warm and everything worked. Staff were fine and helpfully stored bags on last day.
Friendly old hotel on quiet street in the West End. Be prepared for glitches associated with OLD and "budget". (eg no elevator, noisy pipes, basic amenities, shared washrooms for some rooms etc). Welcoming staff, comfortable beds, clean and an unbeatable location.
