Hotel prices are high in vancouver, at least that's what I think. To cut the cost a bit, chose this hostel, booked a room with private bathroom. I still think with a bit overpriced rooms. Small room, stuffy, clean enough bathroom. Didn't visit the dorms so can't comment. The big plus with this place is the helpfulness of the staff... More

Dirty- no air con- terrible customer service- and we saw two (let's just say) "pests" on the same floor as the kitchen. Stayed here for 10 nights and probably had 1 good nights sleep. Seriously Samesun is a lot better

We were horrified by the price of the hotels in Vancouver as decided to stay at the hostel, but in a private double room. The price is still expensive, and would buy you a good hotel room in Europe. The rooms are OK and clean. Breakfast is included, but is minimal. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent washroom facilities. Hostel clean everyday with a good 'help yourself as much as want' breakfast buffet spread. Very busy during peak month of August when my family stayed in two private suites. Because of its central location, very accessible via foot/or bus within Vancouver Downtown. Lots of eating places nearby.

I stayed in a 2 bedroom. The size of the room was ok. The washroom outside the room was clean and you had never to wait for a long time until you could use it. The breakfast was good, but there was almost no space to sit. The best thing for me was that I got to know my room-mates... More

This hostel is fine for the 3 nights we stayed. Rooms and hostel were a little dated but it wasn't anything to fret over! Locations is pretty good, but in the 'party zone' of Vancouver - so young females might find it bothersome to walk at night. The breakfast is great with cereals, bagels and fruit, kitchen might be a... More

It seems that many of the higher ratings are for the 2-bed private rooms. I stayed in a 4-bed male dorm room. Location is "central" but terrible -- weed shops and beggars everywhere. Breakfast was stale bagels and cereal, with nowhere to sit. Lobby was cramped with loud music playing all the time. Most important: WIFI WAS A TOTAL DISGRACE.... More

Perfect location, great breakfast, friendly staff and generally a really nice place to stay. I definitely recommend the Central HI over the Downtown one just for the better location (downtown is great too but is in a quiet suburban street, a few blocks away from the main streets). Also make sure you do one of Eric's walking tours - AMAZING!!!

Very central hostel within walking distance of everything we wanted to do. Our two bed dorm was very basic but saw some other rooms that looked pretty nice. Shared bathrooms were plentiful and clean. Breakfast was a nice perk and staff were nice and helpful. We felt our room was quite expensive for what it was though.

We stayed in a private room with a private bath for 2 nights. No complaints. The room is basic but clean, comfortable and quiet. Price is good and breakfast is delicious, fresh, and included in the price. The location is perfect within walking distance to really everything. I would recommend anyone of any age to stay here.

Staying in Granville Street

Neighborhood Profile
Granville Street
Granville Street spans many, multiple city blocks and has become so fastidiously known for its nightclubs and watering holes that it's fondly nicknamed the city's 'Entertainment District.' Friday and Saturday nights are the most popular and lively, with young revelers taking to the streets in droves and keeping the party going until late. Granville Street, being mostly open to pedestrian-only traffic, has a healthy social life along its main thoroughfares, even outside of its cafes and pubs, spilling onto the sidewalks. The locals are chatty, the shops at its expansive Pacific Centre Mall are trendy, and the whole area seems to be on a sugar rush: in a good way. Exuberance and camaraderie classify this neighbourhood.
