Nice old hotel with history great location and just the right amount of funkiness. Near Stanley Park and many shops and restaurants. The hotel restaurant and bar was very convenient for quick drink or dinner if you didn't want to venture out.

You said it all in your header, "good location fair price and historic". Thank-you for staying with us and taking the time to write a review. I love the views from the restaurant and lounge and it is convenient if staying with us or dropping in after a walk around Stanley Park or a day at the beach. Please do...

Our first visit to Vancouver and how pleased we were with the hotel. Full of character and in a lovely position in front of the beach and near to Stanley Park. We had an excellent room and ok the wi fi was not great in our bedroom but we could go downstairs or use the computer provided by the hotel...

A nice old hotel with a lot of character and charm. A little tired but the charm of the hotel and good service make it a nice hotel to stay. No air conditining or screens on the window, so it is up to you if you will open the windows and risk bugs coming into the room. Overall a great...

Thank-you for staying with us. We are a heritage site and over 104 years old. I appreciate your comments about the service you received during your stay. I believe we offer great value and service. Please book with is again on your next visit to Vancouver.

The Sylvia remains the most homey, comfortable and down to earth hotel. Yep, she is old but she has style and service in spades. And of course the location, with a wonderful bar, right on English Bay can't be beat. The Sylvia is my favourite hotel stay in Vancouver.

I like short reviews that say a lot. Thank-you for taking time to write a review and post it on this site. Saying that the Sylvia is your favorite hotel also says a lot as Vancouver has so many hotels. I also believe that tis is a special place. We hope that you will return soon and often.

The Sylvia has a premier location in the West End. There are other hotels around Denman St. comparably prices (Best Western, Coast Plaza, Times Square Suites), but the Sylvia has the best location - on the beach and adjacent to the seawall. While the location is great, certain aspects of the hotel could use some work. The TV in our...

Thank-you for coming back 8 times and we look forward to serving you again for the 9th time. The location is the fantastic as you mentioned with everything so close and the beach across the street. We did have a change to some of the tv channels that was out of our control, the company we used made that change...

The location is superb, the staff is friendly and the restaurant has beautiful views. The parking garage is on site and you are slightly removed from the hustle and bustle of the west end. It's a short cab ride to downtown. The rooms are older, but I found them to be clean. We love this hotel and stay here when...

Thank-you for all your kind words about your stay. The location on the Hotel on English Bay does have fantastic views. You are correct we are a pet friendly hotel and have been for over 60 years and we are the only hotel in Vancouver that does not charge extra for pets. The Sylvia Hotel's customer service is 5 out of 5. They put the "genuine" back into Hotel Service. We felt as though we had been transported back in time, to an era, "where every guest is a VIP". The premier location of this charming boutique hotel, in the heart of English Bay, makes it a perfect spot to swim in...

The Sylvia Hotel is located just a stone throw distance away from Stanley Park and from the hustle and bustle shopping belt which means it is quiet without compromise on accessibility. The Sylvia Hotel is located in the westend of Vancouver, a bit away from the bustle of downtown. I always appreciate all guests comments about the Sylvia Hotel, not all people get it that we are a heritage site (and not one like a Fairmont that re-creates its' self with millions of dollars) to feel old but everything is brand new. We are a true heritage site and will remain true to our heritage. I am sorry you...

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
