We stayed at the Sylvia August 14th and 15th. My wife and I live in Ladner and wanted to have a mini-staycation in Vancouver as we really enjoy the beautiful city. Our contact with the staff was positive from the get go, they were helpful, courteous and prompt. Our first night was in room 308 and initially were only staying... More

I knew all about the Sylvia Hotel as a children's librarian because it was the home of a mischievous cat in the book, "Mr. Got to Go!" When my wife and I were planning a trip to Vancouver, and I saw the Sylvia Hotel as one of the choices, there was no question where we were going to stay. Just... More

We love staying at the Sylvia...and make a point of visiting at least once a year. What makes this hotel unique is it's old world charm....the quaint rooms, specular ocean views from the hotel bar. The staff are very personable and helpful. We got a recommendation from the gentleman at the front desk for a tapas (Espana) restaurant in the... More

Thank-you for taking the time to write a few words about your stay with us. The family rooms are very popular with larger families or those guests that require a little more space or that extra bed. I was happy to read that you enjoyed your stay. More

We loved our 2 separate stays at the Sylvia Hotel during our North American holiday. The staff were so accommodating with flexible luggage storage and advice. The location was perfect for us and so picturesque. We would highly recommend this beautiful, old hotel to travellers.

Thank-you for staying with us this year on both occasions. We love reading the comments of guests that return for the value and location. Our staff all work so hard to exceed every guests expectation. Please do return and when you do book directly with the hotel for the best room choices and rate. More

We have stayed at the Sylvia Hotel a number of times.Staff is always kind, courteous and helpful. This is a historic hotel, which has been well preserved-may not be the luxury of a four seasons, but the location can't be beat.

I love this hotel. It is a 1910's vintage but is so full of charm the tiny, tiny, bathroom does not matter. The windows open, the staff is superb and the location perfect. The hotel sits on the edge of English Bay. You walk out of the hotel across the road and you are on the beach. You can order... More

"The best place to pretend" What a great title. Thank-you for your review, I think it is well written and informative. The location and service are often mentioned by travellers that stay with us. I enjoy the stuffed mushrooms as well. I hope you will return again soon to enjoy the views on English Bay. When you do always call... More

Charming historic hotel across the street from English Bay waterfront. Rooms small but well appointed with gracious staff. Underground parking which is essential in this part of city. Lovely bar and lounge and wonderful restaurant. Staff very attentive and personable.

We spent a long weekend here in early August. It's not the most modern hotel I've ever stayed at, it doesn't have a pool or a gym or a spa or anything like that, but we really enjoyed it. Staff were so helpful, friendly, rooms were very clean. The location is spectacular, right on English Bay, adjacent to Stanley Park... More

Some times it is hard to reply to good reviews as most guest mention the important things like service, location and cleanliness, do not get me wrong I prefer the good reviews vs. a bad one. Thank-you so much for your kind words and I hope we can serve you again soon. More

I stayed at the Sylvia for a week this past May and could not have made a better choice for my almost spur of the moment vacation. The location is perfect for walking the beach or the sea wall while enjoying spectacular views. It's a short, pleasant walk to the water taxi to Granville Island, too. Lots of restaurants, convenience... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
