We booked the Sylvia Hotel for a women's family weekend......aunties, moms, nieces daughters. It was a wonderful time. We, the aunties/mom's, had the "hospitality" suite and it was a great space...large bedroom and living room and small kitchen/eating area. The hotel is"old school", .....you get one key, and turn it in at the front desk when you leave and the...

I would come back here again! Amazing location, with facilities near by, great public transport near and Stanley Park less than a 5 minute walk away. The staff were fantastic and the rooms clean. The bar looking over English Bay is beautiful.

Whenever we come to Vancouver we always stay at the Sylvia Hotel. It is an old heritage hotel that offers clean, basic accommodation...nothing fancy, no luxuries, but then how much time do you plan to spend in your room and you can't beat their price! We have stayed in many of the Vancouver hotels that cost several times more than...

Wow, I really enjoyed reading your comments about the Sylvia Hotel and the surrounding area. The location is often mentioned for the reasons you referred to and also appreciate the fact that you mentioned how clean the hotel is. The views from the lounge and restaurant are great to watch the sun set over English Bay. Please do come back...

Always our first choice to stay in Vancouver. The location is great and love the historic charm of the place. Take the stairs and marvel at the relief in the marble stairs from the thousands of people who've traversed them over time. We love that they are dog friendly. Once our dog escaped our truck while we were checking out...

I am so happy that you were able to get your pet back, they are like family so we understand how important pets are. Yes we are pet friendly and believe we are the only hotel in the city that does not charge extra for pets. Thank-you for staying with us and hope that you will return (with your pet...

We spent 2 nights here, the location is perfect for the English Bay. We were in a large group and they let us all check in to our rooms early, the bed was super comfy and the room clean and adequate, wish we had had a fridge and a more modern shower. The bar and restaurant are very good and...

Thank-you for staying with us and offering your comments about the hotel and your experience. We are a heritage hotel (over 104 years old) so some areas of the hotel are similar as they have been for all those years (bathrooms). I agree with you that the staff make all the difference in most guests stays, thank-you for mentioning the...

We spent 10 nights here in the first half of Dec. At a weekly special rate, the charge was less than CDN 140 per night including kitchenette, underground parking and taxes. Because the price was a bit too good to be true (it is the downtown area), we approached this stay with very basic expectations taking into account all the...

You are correct, we are not 5 star, however I do appreciate that you mentioned all the things that other traveller want to know. This is a throwback to the turn of the last century. First impression is that the elevator needs major service. We took the stairs whenever possible. The room was small. The renovation in the bathroom was adequate for a very small space. The bright side to this hotel is its active bar life. The dining experience was very good. The...

This is my 3rd visit to The Sylvia. There were two families-8 altogether. Nothing is a problem,we arrived on an early flight and we expected to drop our bags and check in later but they checked us in to some of our rooms that had been cleaned. We were so grateful as some were really tired. The position, aged rooms...

I love this hotel. The location and views are unbeatable - it is right on English Bay beach. I had the most incredible view right across the bay. And I could walk to a bunch of restaurants including the Cactus Club right on the beach. The room was large and comfortable and the Sylvia's staff couldn't have been friendlier. I...

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
