When I pull up to the Sylvia Hotel it is like coming home. The friendly staff and the amazing lounge awaits me for the infamous Martini. The food is always creative featuring seafood, and various other pleasures with the flare of elegance and history that the Sylvia Hotel wears gracefully. The rooms looking out onto the Bay are my favourite....

The very best element of this hotel is the staff. Front desk staff, housekeepers, and the bell man all went out of their way to help in their roles as hosts. When we asked about taking the bus, the desk staff gave us a hotel-produced map with color-coded bus lines marked for different destinations and told us about fares. When...

I was a bit concerned after my better half booked our room, but, this is a lovely old hotel without the plagues of old hotels. Built in the early 1900's our room was large, comfortable and very clean. Perhaps a bit dated but it all worked for us.The front desk staff were terrific, friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We...

First visit to the Sylvia. I requested a room on a high floor and received same. Next time I will ask for one over looking the water instead of the a garage! The hotel has excellent bones - built in 1912 and is in a great location. Great walking in the neighbourhood and next door to Stanley Park. A coat...

The location is great and we loved our initial stay which was for 2 nights. Staff was friendly and helpful. We had an updated room- remodeled bathroom, new pillow top mattress, etc. We enjoyed two meals in the restaurant and the food and service were excellent. However, when we returned later the same week for 1 more night we were...

The heritage of the Sylvia hotel alone was worth staying there. The staff was attentive, friendly, and very gracious. We can't say enough about the staff, especially the security guard, Marvin. He went out of his way to make our stay wonderful. We went for a quick family vacation to Vancouver. The Sylvia is within walking distance of great food...

My friend and I stayed at the Sylvia the end of September for three days/nights. Bus ride from the airport was approximately 40 min. The Sylvia is located across the street from the beach and park at English Bay. The view was gorgeous; we enjoyed walking along the pedestrian path, taking pictures of the beautiful sunsets over the water. There...

When we go to Vancouver we always stay at the Sylvia- the location is incredible, the windows open, they have parking and the rooms are spacious. There is variety in the space- always a unique room and it is comfortable, not a boring box. The restaurant is great and the hotel is surrounded by food from around the world. Best...

This hotel came highly recommended for its comfort convenience and a quiet charm. It exceeded my expectations in every department. The location is perfect with the beautiful English Bay literally across the road and walking distance to the city (if you are fit) Shopping, restaurants and coffee bars all close by. A bus stop 200 metres away was ideal to...

we just spent 8 nights at the Sylvia. We're from Ontario and were visiting our daughter who lives about 5 minutes away from the hotel. Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
