... I woke up to a cozy, lazy rainy Vancouver Sunday day today and just wanted to sit in bed, sip my coffee and enjoy some stress free Instagram cruising. Pretty good way to unwind on a Sunday morning I thought. That would have been, had the WiFi worked ... Wifi is free yes... but doesn't work. Good luck getting... More

There are so many things wrong with this hotel - I'll stick to five main reasons not to stay here, for simplicity. 1) Even though they advertise that they have televisions, there is actually NO cable. Oh, great, there's a tv... with one channel.. the 24 hour static channel. 2) You have to pay $20 dollars for any guests that... More

I would not recommend this hotel because they constantly have a cockroach problem. The cockroaches climb on all the cutlery, and probably leave behind trails of diseases. There's also an extremely loud club downstairs that shakes the floors to the entire hotel, and you can't get any sleep from Thursday-Sunday. They have also started watering down the soap in the... This is one of the most affordable and decent hotels for nightly, weekly or monthly stays for people who are on a working-holiday visa or are backpackers / student travelers. Prices range from $570 to $800 for rooms that include free wifi, tv, sink, bed, desk, storage, lamps, chair and heater. The hotel also has 2 laundry rooms as well.... More

I stayed here from October 2013 to April 2014. I arrived on a working holiday looking for somewhere to stay, if this is something you might be doing then I recommend this hotel. The location is excellent, and you'll be living with other solo travelers so making friends will be easy. The staff were very helpful to me, after leaving... More

This is my second time staying at the Columbia Hotel monthly while on a working holiday from Australia. This hotel is perfect for those who need a great decent room (bed, work desk, chair, wardrobe, sink, side table, lamps, heater and TV) on a budget. (Think working holiday, international students etc...) Prices range from $570 - $650 for a private... More

I stayed in this hotel for 3 months last year. I was well impressed with the level of room and bathroom cleanliness, common areas are sometimes good sometimes not but a lot of that depends on other guests. The management and staff can be a little rude, especially the owner but if you ca get by their quirks its a... More

Every time I come back from Europe I always go to this place. I've stayed two times in this hotel. The first time for 6 months and the second time for 1 month. It has been good for me, very affordable regarding the proximity to downtown, clean, safe and cosy. I recommend this hotel to anyone for a short or... More

I stayed here for 6 months. The first 3 months were OK, but unfortunately, within the last three months, this Columbia Student Residence has had a plague of cockroaches in its kitchens, crawling all over the shared dishes, and most of the rooms are infested with bed bugs. This "hotel" continues to have bedbugs and cockroaches, that you can visibly... More

We stayed here from November 2012 - April 2013 and it was the perfect place to live for 6 months. We paid $1000 a month for a nice big room, double bed and a bathroom but apparently we got a pretty good price because it was during the winter - apparently it goes up during the summer and I'm not... Staying in Gastown

Neighborhood Profile
Gastown
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
