We stayed here as a couple in a beautiful one bedroom suite. Hotel smells amazing when you walk in. The room was very well appointed, quiet and clean and we loved the huge balcony with room darkening/remote blinds as I am a fussy sleeper and like total darkness. Bathroom was lovely as were the toiletries. Staff here were amazingly attentive always greeting and asking if everything is good. Room service was quick and food and drinks were great. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub as well. Location is great and very close to good restaurants so you can just walk there. We shall return!
Stayed for a couple nights with my wife and we both loved it. If you like clean and modern styling, this is the place. Slept very well - good soundproofing and very comfortable large bed. Spacious room.
Context: Stayed 4 nights, booked using Amex FHR program. Got upgraded initially to a Deluxe Room. Ended up extending 1 more night using Amex FHR booking. Check in: Great - Vincent is very comprehensive. We upgraded to a suite with a reasonable upcharge of $20CAD per night. We appreciate the ease of upgrades very much. Initial impression of the room: Not very good. The first room we were given, the commode/toilet room smelled quite badly. Think of wet gym towel smell - it was not Clorox/chem smells, bc during pandemic we have a habit of wiping things w Clorox wipes. Vincent switched us to a different suite, but this one was even worse with empty water bottles and wet towels still in the room. Vincent ended up upgrading us to a 1 bedroom suite, Cleanliness: The room cleanliness is 7 out of 10 so to speak. The room is ok, but the overall building state need a lot of TLC. Carpet on the hallway, and elevator state (buttons, platform floor) need more TLC. Lobby and gyms are clean and up to Shangrila's standard, but we were a bit surprised with the hallway and elevator condition. Staff: Staff is awesome. From concierge, to front desk staff, housekeeping, and gym staff - we have no complaints. Dining: This is where we are massively disappointed. We missed MARKET very much. Miantiao menu might be innovative, but for b-fast it's limited. No oatmeal, no custom omelette options, and running out of smoothies on a regular basis. Staff is also disappointing. Day 1 - very upsetting, was sat down on a table, and the server just came by to take orders for 2 other groups sat latter. No one bother to ask for coffee or any other beverages. Day 2 - my wife's cup had no saucer. Day 3 - we came a bit later in the morning, busy times, we were asked to wait until table was cleared. We wanted to walk around and see the other part of the restaurant and the host immediately cut us off. We saw a different group that waited while we sat, and they wandered off to the area that we wandered off, and no one paid any attention to them. Why were we treated differently, we don't know. Portion is also inconsistent. We had All American b-fast options and every time we got different serving sizes. The food was ok, but definitely a step or two below MARKET. My understanding is the staff is all the same from the MARKET but the execution/operations is so far below par. Room: Room is good overall, but Shangrila need to add more power outlet in the room. In a common Westin/Marriott/Hilton - there are outlets on left and right of bed, with additional USB ports for devices. In Shangri-la we have none. There are USB ports on the desk - and that's it. Bathroom is generously sized. No complaints here. Bed: A bit too soft for our taste. A firmer mattress I think will do wonders. Other amenities: Wifi strength in the room is good, but not so much in the balcony - maybe that's by design. Overall: Overall stay was good but not great. We stayed at Vancouver Shangrila for the first time in Dec 2018 (booked using Amex FHR). It was by far, one of the best hotel stay we ever had. Room was great, dining was awesome at MARKET, and staff is fantastic. We had high expectations of this stay, and it was not met - w/ the hiccup in the room, condition of the property, and dining services at Miantiao. We initially considered JW Marriott at Parq Vancouver, and Fairmont Pacific Rim but settled on Shangrila due to our past experience. We have Platinum Status w Marriott so on our next trip to Vancouver (which can be as early as this weekend), we would try the JW or even the Westin - bc w the status that we have, we are usually treated extremely well. We were treated way better in 2018 when we stayed at Shangrila for the first time, but this time, the dining services really let us down. We do appreciate the double upgrade to a bedroom suite and the hotel agreed to let us keep the room when we extended. But overall, it is just not the shiny castle on the hill as it was before so to speak.…
It was an amazing experience right from the start and made us feel extra special - thank you to the complete team… We were double upgraded to a suite and it was awesome. The room was clean and the view was also great. All room amenities were top of the line and we enjoyed every moment we were a guest at this amazing property. For sure we shall be recommending to our friends and family and will return at this property on our next visit
Our first get away since COVID and we chose to stay at The Shangri-La Vancouver. The travel from the US was quick and we arrived to a very easy check in. The hotel felt very safe and secure, with health precautions in all public spaces. They asked that you wear masks in all public areas, and only three people to an elevator. Room service requests for mini bar or housekeeping was via a simple chat menu, easier than phoning down. We enjoyed an upgrade to a junior suite and had a very comfortable space. The only criticism was the live music during weekend breakfast. It was quite loud if you were just expecting breakfast and not boozy brunch. The food was great at both breakfast - fabulous congee- and dinner. We had a wonderfully relaxing stay and we will look at coming back.
