We stayed at the Douglas House when our usual hotel was booked for the date we needed. Had a small second floor room that was very hot. No ceiling fan, no cross ventilation, no air conditioner. It was adequate but nothing special and not a particularly good value for the price. The room was generally clean although the carpet needed... More

Both this house and Cambie House ( next door ) were an excellent choice for my stay while visiting my husband at Vancouver General Hospital. It is an easy 15 minute walk to the hospital. The staff at all three houses, Cambie, Douglas and the Doug West building went out of their way to be helpful. I was able to... More

The breakfast was good, cooked fresh when you sat down. Parking we adequate but tight. They advertise 12 spaces but if you parked in the last space you could be trapped in by another car. The room was clean but showed signs of wear. The managers were friendly I would go back, but I’ve stayed in nicer B & B’s

Our room was not ready over an hour after check in time. Had to wait while it was vacuumed and cleaned. Nice breakfast, in a pretty natural light filled room. Very difficult negotiating the stairway with heavy cruise luggage. We stayed at the top of the house so had a hard time going up front stairway to porch landing...then 4... More

We chose the Douglas Guest House due to the location of where my wife had to go for a doctor appointment the next day. We were able to leave our car at the house and walk to the appointment. The room was nice and clean. Nice breakfast included. The staff was very friendly. We would definitely stay here again.

Stayed one night and was very pleased to receive a room after visiting several large hotels that claimed they had not a single room available. Lady at desk was extremely helpful and friendly. Stayed in the guest house next to the actual building breakfast was served in and found parking at the time to be very convenient and accessible. Breakfast... More

Room was a little worn (carpet, bathroom) but furniture was obviously brand new. The hotel seemed to be a little short on staff, although the staff who were there were very nice. Parking can be a challenge in the neighborhood. (The neighborhood itself is safe and charming.) If you arrive late, you might need to block a few blocks away,... More

We had a below ground level room that was adequate but nothing special and not particularly good value for the price. The room was generally clean although the carpet needed cleaning and new paint on the ceiling is overdue. The venetian-type blinds didn't keep out much light. The "garden" isn't much and is largely occupied by a derelict motorhome. On... More

I have stayed at the Douglas Guest House on several occasions and I found the house clean and comfortable. The breakfast is really nice with friendly staff and people from around the world to meet and eat with. I certainly recommend this BnB for anyone looking for a great stay.

Great location, excellent hospitality, very good breakfast, comfortable room. Very happy with our stay. Will definitely be back. Stayed in the garden terrace room. Room could use a fresh paint job, there had obviously been leaks at some point although everything was good while we were there through some pretty heavy rain.

Staying in Shaughnessy

Neighborhood Profile
Shaughnessy
Residential neighbourhood to the ultra-wealthy, the gorgeous manor houses centred around The Crescent area are a fabled sight to behold. Shaughnessy is Vancouver's most verdant plotted neighbourhood, and its tree-lined streets, walking routes, bike trails, and charming public parks make for an ideal location to spend and afternoon communing with nature. Consequently, it is also the botanical centre of the city, featuring conservatories and an expansive Botanical Garden, taming and sculpting the wild into seasonal viewing areas and enchanting landscapes. Quiet, elegant Shaughnessy excels at providing the Three Gs: Gardens, Golfing, and Galleries.
