We stayed here for two nights in a shared dorm room. The building is definitely ordered but well presented and very clean. Ammenities are good and wifi work very well in our room. Very central location and staff were helpful and friendly. Thank you!

Excellent location for shops, beaches, bars and restaurants and for getting picked up for a wine tour. Good kitchen and common area and decent showers. Nice mix of travellers and good place for chatting.

I had a decent stay at HI - Penticton. The hostel is centrally located, clean, comfortable and staff friendly and (mostly) helpful. Be aware that the hostel is in an older wooden building with very thin walls so you hear every creak when people walk around, doors opening/closing (and slamming), bathroom fans, etc. Make sure you bring ear plugs. In my (2nd floor private) room, the temperature was comfortable for this time of year (spring), but I think it would become very hot in the summer. Unfortunately, during my stay, there were also a few inconsiderate hostellers (migrant workers) that got up at 2 am to go to work and had loud phone conversations (on speaker phone) in the common areas. Staff did little to educate these folks on proper hostel etiquette (which was a tad frustrating).

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments. It is great to hear that you found the Hostel to be clean and comfortable! The hostel is cooled by way of a swamp cooler in the summer, it is an efficient system that is greatly appreciated by guests and staff as things warm up! If you are returning to Penticton contact me directly to make a booking and I will ensure that you are in a quiet area of the building. Happy Travels! Lisa

I've been here for about a week now getting over the flu and waiting for mail. Penticton is a pretty quiet place it seems. This hostel reflects that, which is fantastic for my needs at this time. I have met a few really nice people here and have had a great amount of time to chill in peace. Seems like half of the people staying here are working so during the day it's very quiet. The place is clean and the staff are very friendly. The beds are comfortable. There is only one shower for females but this has not been an issue (there's an extra toilet in a small room Incase of emergency.)You can shut the door and its your own private bathroom! Something to be treasured in a hostel. There was an interruption with the water being shut off for a while, to which I was compensated. Free donuts to say 'sorry for the inconvenience', also verbal acknowledgement. I went for two weeks in Cairns, Australia without hot water, without even a 'sorry', never mind compensation (lucky it was really hot weather).. All in all if you're looking for a party hostel, this is not it. If you are looking to recuperate and relax in a clean, friendly environment, this place is the one! Love it. Keep up the good work!!

A group of us spent four nights at this hostel....overall an okay experience but two things in particular stand out for me. I am surprised that the place has not had an outbreak of Norwalk virus....the kitchen has no dishwasher; people are to wash their dishes and dry them with dish towels that were never changed once while we were there. Dishwashing liquid is watered down so as to make it go further. There should be a policy of using bleach, rinse and air drying - that is generally the accepted method of dishwashing in public spaces. As well, the fridges were incubators of old mouldy food. Based on appearances alone the fridges looked as though they were cleaned out twice a year....??? Dishes and utensils were questionable re cleanliness...the inside of the only microwave was crusty with baked on food, the pots and pans were old and in need of replacing. Bathrooms were so so - two four piece on the main floor and two upstairs along with a closet that held a toilet and tiny little sink - one member of our group called it the train bathroom (it was that size if not smaller)...it was filthy. We were told that the place could hold 60 people -- maybe they have to take a number to use the bathroom...and maybe there is no body that regulates hostels in BC??? Rooms seemed to be various configurations - our room for instance slept four - four people would have been hard pressed to have managed in it - two people would have to leave so the other two could get dressed in the space allowed. As well the sheets on my bed were stained with a number of (hopefully) old dried blood spots, (I was able to find new sheets) towels which are provided are a bit threadbare...the price is very good...the place is within walking distance of the downtown core, but it really needs a bit more maintenance and TLC. There is parking at the back for three cars only. Parking on side streets is free, should you be arriving by car. There is free wifi and seems to work well in the common area.

Hello skychaserCalgary. Thank you for taking the time to review the Hostel. Your comments and concerns are appreciated. I wish you had taken the opportunity to speak to me directly during your stay about your concerns. We all enjoyed hosting your group but wish we could have arranged for warmer weather! The staff do a great job at keeping the century old building tidy and in good working order, and we are inspected annually by our own organization as well we have to adhere to provincial regulations and inspections to maintain our listing in certain publications. Guests are required to wash, dry and put away their own dishes and tidy up as they go along in the kitchen during meal preparation. The staff pick up where the guests leave off and ensure that things are kept in good order, it is unfortunate that you found things to be untidy. As for the little the "train bathroom" that is what we also refer to it as! It is tiny and over the years seems to come in handy during emergencies. I look forward to addressing your other concerns, please contact me directly at your convenience. Lisa Grey-Dreaper Manager
