This was our first time staying at the Beachside Motel but we were familiar with the property before booking it. I knew going in that the property was pretty tired, but was genuinely surprised by the poor state of the room. The Good Stuff - The location is amazing, especially if you're wanting to spend most of your time at Skaha Lake. - The rooms are a really good size (we were in a one bedroom suite). - There's a nice, shady patch of grass with tables and BBQs for guests' use. - The air conditioning worked really well. - There are movies held outside for the little kids. - Really good wifi (I was pleasantly surprised). - The owner's were really friendly. The Not Good Stuff: - Our room was really dirty and unkept. When we arrived the cleaners had missed taking left over bathing suit from the bathroom that was hanging up. There were big stains on the carpet and couch (I refused to let my daughter play on the floor and couch without covering it). There were smudge marks and drips on cabinet and table sides, and obvious dust and dirt. - The door was really hard to close and when I tried to put the chain lock on the door it fell off in our hands. We took it down to the front desk and they said someone would come up to fix it, but in the 3 nights we were there it was not fixed. - The kitchen table was super wobbly and had already been fixed, but really needed to be replaced. - TVs are very old and not great clarity. All in all it was a comfortable stay and, while the rooms were very tired, we would maybe stay there again. The owner mentioned that they've sold the business and will be switching hands at the end of the summer, so that will be part of our decision for future vacations.

We visit Penticton at least once every year. For our August visit, we always stay at the Empire Motel. Our family of four has stayed there more than a dozen times. This year, we had a friend join us for our annual trip. She has a small, very quiet, very well-behaved dog. Prior to making reservations at the Beachside Motel, she called them and confirmed that they were 'pet friendly' and that her dog would be welcome. The person who answered the phone confirmed everything. When our friend arrived with her small dog, the daytime high temperatures were forecast to be in the high 30s.Great for the vacationers but unsuitable for leaving a dog in the car. Trudy, informed our friend that the dog could not be in the room unless she was in it also. She could not leave her dog inside the room, in a travel kennel. The entire situation was unpleasant for our friend and also for my husband and son (who tried to reason with Trudy). This is absolutely not a pet-friendly motel. Make no mistake. Our friend was able to move to The Pass Motor Inn. It was not too far away. She paid $30 per night less. Had a full kitchen and a larger, more comfortable room. Her dog was welcome there and was permitted to be in the room even when our friend was not. It was refreshing to see the flatscreen tv and the size of the Pass Motor Inn room vs the CRT television and the small dark room at the Beachside. The location of Beachside is excellent but that's where it ends. The Pass Motor Inn was much friendlier, more comfortable and better value for individuals travelling with pets. For pet-free family, the Empire Motel remains the motel of choice. The rooms are bright snd clean. Its no wonder that there are few vacancies in the summer months.

Rooms are basic and a little dated but very clean. Take your own shampoo. We really liked the green area with picnic tables, barbeques and lawn chairs. Very nice to sit outside at night. Very close to Skaha Lake. Great place for families.

Although other family members have stayed at the Beachside Motel, this past August was my first visit. I loved it, just a very short walk to the beautiful beach at Skaha Lake and the motel definitely caters to children. Every night the owners set up a mini outdoor movie theatre complete with free popcorn and sometimes even ice cream. There are several BBQ's on the grassy boulevard for the guests use and parents can feel safe allowing their children to bike and scoot around the property because everyone slows down knowing children are in the area. The units are basic but comfortable and clean and the owners are friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this motel to anyone looking for a family friendly place.

i...we have been here a number of times and love it. ok, its a typical motel (3 minute walk to the beach, 20 second walk to a park), but the green space between the 2 motel rooms is fantastic with its ponderosa pines, tiny lights between and the comfy patio chairs (you could actually sleep in) makes this place a perfect place to stay for a night or week. we got a 1 bedroom with kitchenette and was great to make an easy din and keep drinks cool. the people here are also great and very personable with them tending to the front desk to the garden and love to chat. they are pet friendly, just can't be left alone in the room, but dogs will love the cool grass anyways. for the kids they had movie night serving pop corn watching a disney movie outside...love it! will be back as usual every time we visit penticton
