I would certainly recommend this questhouse for everyone visiting Nanaino and area. Friendly staff, clean & affordable. And a pro is meeting all kinds of people all around the world with different reasons. Businesslike or holiday. Next to this, they recently renovated it and it looks like new!

Mm...most definitely a hostel and there's nothing wrong with that but unsure as to why it calls itself a guesthouse. Smaller than some hostels I guess. Room was basic but clean and beds were comfy with lovely duvet that was not too warm for the time of year. Bathrooms were clean and there were plenty of them. Reception staff were... More

Stayed here for only one night, so can't give a complte review. But the things I saw, were fine. Like the big kitchen, livingroom en laundromats. The wifi was working ok. Only the washrooms, specially the shower, were quite small. Close to the harbour and main shopping street.

Spent 2 nights here in a private room during our Island trip. Beautiful rooms with beds already made up with nice bedding. Fairly large for a hostel room with a chest of drawers and a desk (the desk seemed to be an afterthought - did not match the decor of the hostel). Only improvement to the room would be a... More

I had the chance to stay a while in the Painted Turtle and I liked it very much. It is clean, has very nice staff and a friendly ambiance (the kitchen and living room, aka the Great Room, simply are great). For every couple who travels together do not be avaricious and want to save roundabout $5, enjoy one of... More

My boyfriend and I traveled to Nanaimo so I could go and check out my future university, Vancouver Island University, located in Nanaimo. We were staying four nights total. We arrived late at night by plane, and had to call the hostel to let the caretaker we would be there soon to check in. Check in was smooth. Originally we... More

My son and I spent 4 days at the Painted Turtle when we visited Nanaimo to go scuba diving. It was great, very clean, nice room (we stayed in a family room) and friendly staff. I especially liked the kitchen/common room. The location is great, downtown with lots of restaurants and shops. I liked that there were people of all... More

I have stayed at the Painted Turtle for a bit, and really enjoyed it there. Staff were always friendly. I would have to say I like how there is a potluck at any given time. Especially the Halloween party. Got to see all different carving of the pumpkins. I highly recommend the Painted Turtle Guesthouse. It is a great experience... More

What a gem this clean, quiet, and charming guesthouse is! Right in the heart of downtown Nanaimo, its central location is convenient and within walking distance of Old Town. The rooms are clean, the owners are friendly and informative, and the value is excellent. I would stay here again without a doubt. In addition, I liked that as a guest... More

Really comfortable well run hostel with a very central location. We had a clean and comfortable room with bunks and a double bed. A nice touch for a hostel was to find the bed already made up. Shared individual bathrooms and enough of them not to queue. However it was noisy both from other visitors and the local bars as... More
