Thanks to the staff at the El for an very relaxing holiday. We met up with other families - and had a great time. There is no better location in the okanagan. We swam in the lake, used the many pools at the resort. One day we rented a pontoon boat and had an adventure lake okanagan. Dining at the Eldorado is a MUST for all visitors to the area. The El team understood and managed the COVID protocols and we were able to enjoy and feel safe on our holiday. Be aware that the protocols include the shift that staff cannot come into your room - so you have to manage your own housekeeping.

My adult daughter and I just stayed at The Eldorado and had an even better stay than I had expected. We stayed for 4 nights over this last weekend. We stayed in a Luxury Lakeview Suite in the Arms building attached to the original hotel. Parking is close by Check in was quick and easy.

What I hadn't expected was the ambiance and feel of the buildings and the room. Originally built in the 1920s, the decor was perfect for that era. It felt like being back in the roaring 20s with the convenience of modern times. The colours of the walls, the furniture, the decorations ... everything fit in.

Our suite was everything I wanted. The front entrance has a hall, desk, and a large closet with robes that we didn't end up using. The kitchen has a table and chairs with a view of the lake. There is a fridge, microwave and dishwasher as well as coffee maker, plates and utensils. The living room had a comfy sofa bed, two large chairs, an attoman and a large mirror. The bathroom again was decorated in the 1920s style with a huge multi jetted shower. The bedroom had a very comfortable bed (maybe queen or king) with side tables. The large jetted tub is in an open alcove in the bedroom. The alcove has plantation shutters that you can leave open or closed.

The kitchen, living room, alcove and bedroom all have wide views of the lake. We would leave the sliding doors open and listen to the music and people. Closed, the rooms were very quiet.

Had room service - awesome.

We were there during a heat wave and the rooms were very comfortable. Never had to do any adjusting of the temperature.

There was a TV in the bedroom and living room.

We were so busy we didn't get a chance to try any of the different pools or other amenities.

We did get to experience an unexpected fire alarm. Luckily during the daytime and there was no fire. Did get to see all of the staff and guests in the parking lot.

We are definitely going back.

Great Location on the water and so close to downtown. Had all the amenities with friendly staff and a beautiful resort type feeling. May be a little high priced but the location of the property does make it worth while if you can afford it.

We spent two nights there in room 306 which was pretty much in the attic. A renovated room that was cosy but the electrical conduits didn’t work properly and I had a hard time charging up my phone. The conduit in the bathroom worked pretty good and when we asked for help, the maintenance man came quickly and gave us two plug-in adaptors but my phone still wouldn’t charge up. Loved the linen and we slept well on the bed. Tip: if you don’t like soft tops on your mattress request that they remove it because the bed was pretty soft. We paid $236 a night but the building is very old and I worried about it burning down on us while we’re sleeping. They have an extensive sprinkler system in the suite but I still worried about it. Ate at the Lakeside dining for dinner and the food was good. Tip: Make a reservation at least four days in advance for lunch or dinner if you’re going to stay there because of the new Covid rules: staffing is low and the dining rooms were quite full. Prior to leaving for this trip, I had a hard time getting through to hotel Mateo (this is where you have to make your reservation) and the dining room as nobody answered the phone. Will try a more modern hotel next time.

Hello PatientlyWaiting2020, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay with us and we appreciate your feedback. I can assure that all aspects of Hotel Eldorado are up to code but you are correct that it is more of a heritage style which enhances it's uniqueness. We do have our Arms wing which is more modern but with a boutique flair, so should you decide to stay with us again please consider this building or our Manteo hotel. My apologies that you had difficulty reaching us by phone, we do have a reservations center you can reach by pressing 1 once you call us and they are available 24/7. Kind regards, Vari - FOM

We were confused about our check in and got no information that it would be at a different hotel. Some of the staff were not friendly. We missed breakfast and the lady at the restaurant was quite rude and turned us away instead of asking if we were okay to wait until they finished sanitizing. Better communication would be much better. The room was nice and I have always enjoyed the Eldorado .

Hello mklymi332749, I'm so sorry to hear that your check-in process was confusing, we have the information on our confirmations and do try to contact each arriving guest prior to arrival to let them know to check-in at the Manteo. Having consolidated our Front Desks this COVID year we are certainly trying to make the process as seamless as possible for our guests and again let me apologize that this was not your experience. It is nice to hear that you have always enjoyed the Eldorado and we would be happy to provide you with a gift card for breakfast next time you visit our restaurant, please contact myself or Samantha Sinotte when you know you will be in town. mmccarthy@eldoradoresort.ca or ssinotte@eldoradoresort.ca. Cute cozy rooms with nice view of the lake. Great happy hour patio. Service was great and room was very clean. Would like to see hooks in the bathrooms for hanging towels during COVID, and more electrical outlets near a mirror for curling iron and blow dryer use. Didn’t use the pool as we were boating most days but it looked nice. Would stay again.

The El Dorado has a lot going for it with a great location, a lovely boardwalk restaurant, and even a marina. Additionally its sister property Manteo, also has a very good restaurant (even with the terrible name- Smack Dab). The staff as well from the parking attendant, to the front desk staff and housekeeping were great. Our room, the 1 bedroom suite, was spacious, albeit a bit dated, and had everything we needed. However, if you are looking for any level of privacy and quiet, this resort is probably not for you. Rooms facing the water have beautiful views but are just above the restaurant so you'll hear voices and music all day long. And if you're on the second floor which we were, people on the boardwalk can also easily see into your room. Additionally you can clearly hear footsteps from the floor above. The worst part however, was that we had a room that directly faced the open air wedding that was going on one night. Music blasted until midnight which was an unpleasant surprise given that no one let us know it was happening.

Never in my life have I experience such disrespect checking into a hotel. The amount of inconsistencies with this organization makes me wonder if they have someone finger painting the bookings in the back office.

I called and made my reservations a week in advance, asking for an early check in willing to pay more as I had a wedding starting at 3pm. I was assured the room would be ready by 1pm. Upon arriving at 2pm to check it I was told the room was not available. ( they just clean all the rooms in the last hour). I was told I could upgrade my room for an additional 150 dollars. I figured $540 was enough to pay for a room I was only going to see after the wedding (2am till 11am).

I asked if I could perform the check in requirements ( credit card for DD, blah blah) in the afternoon rather than dealing with that at 2am.

Was it that was impossible as they may change my room.

Would have been great if they changed my room to one available so I didn’t want to go get ready and put my suit on in a public washroom.

I wasn’t going to let this ruin my weekend.

I was assured there was staff on 24/7 so I wouldn’t have an issue checking in after the wedding.

Came back to hotel after the wedding to wait at the desk for 37mins before staff arrived to check me in. At this time the attendant told me I was being charged a “no show fee” and I had to pay for an additional fee. Flabbergasted as I had been there earlier in the day I told him I’ll deal with that at check out as I was told there was no manager on staff.

In the morning upon check out there was a note saying outstanding fee needing to be paid due to “no show”. Thankfully the morning staff recognized me from the day before, but had to get the manager to address clearing the fee.

At that time I attempted to tell the manager about my experience. Rather then an apology or anything addressing I was said I was told “ we’ve had complaints about that staff member before”

For the price you pay for the accommodations I would expect some professionally.

I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy.

The Lakeside Dining Room and whisky bar/lounge were fabulous! Vinny and all the servers were amazing!
However....
We paid $429 for a 'Heritage Lake View Queen' room which, according to their website offers one Queen Bed, featuring picturesque lake views, and a private balcony. We also added 120 for one of the enhancements (silver).
Room was clean and bed was comfortable enough, but it had a 3.5 ft wide balcony that looked out over the plastic roofs of the bar and restaurant and further down construction and other hotels. You could see the lake only if you stood up from the metal bistro table and chair set that was there (also not very comfortable), and if you ignored the roof soffit that angled down beside you. From the description on website I expected an actual full-on view of the lake. Certainly not worth 429.
For the enhancement I had also emailed after my reservation was confirmed, advising if the hotel had any personalization they could apply, (like a card or something) they could say Happy 40th anniversary. No response to that. On the day of our check-in, the front desk called while I was driving up and said they wanted to make sure I had asked for the enhancement because there was only a note but it wasn't on the reservation, (which it was because I had a copy of the confirmation which showed 120 clear as day). Then I was charged 157.08, on my visa immediately, which I was not expecting until checkout, and had to transfer money to make sure I would not be over-limit with the room and dining we were planning. Other than on very tiny print on the detailed PDF of the amenity packages, there is no information about the extra cost in the form of taxes and gratuity fee (which totaled additional 37.08 = +31%). Plus, when asked for an explanation at the end of our stay, the front desk people said it was "a delivery fee or something like that", and that explanation was advised only after a call to at least 3 other people to find out why the charges.
I understand there are staff shortages in the hotel industry; however, when we came to check out, there was a sign at the front of the EL lobby saying we had to check out at the Manteo, the main property next door. Fair enough, except, I have hip problems awaiting surgery and walking is difficult. Due to ongoing construction on the access road (Cook), we were unable to make the necessary left turns to drive to the next door hotel, so I walked what I would say is approximately a block and a half [one way], to the great detriment later for my hip and back. Since the construction was a known factor, perhaps some accommodation could have been provided, I don't know, a golf cart made available? There seemed to be 2 or 3 people on or around at the Manteo desk; perhaps for check out times, one could have been spared for the EL.
