We stayed here as part of our Holland America tour. The room work fine, although nothing fancy. The town is very eclectic but was a nice stop on our 10 day trip. We enjoyed our walks around town. We really were glad we rented bikes and road the ferry across the river for a nice ride. Don't expect too much but enjoy your stay. I had some nice visits with locals at a couple of nearby restaurants. The roof top bar at the hotel was fun and had good food. Just step back in time and enjoy yourself.
This was an included visit with the Holland America Alaska land/sea journey! It is a step back in time and where the sun goes down well past my bedtime! Great people and an authentic town. We participated in a river cruise, roaring 20's entertainment at Gertie's Hall.
The hotel is clean, well maintained, and friendly. They gave us a wakeup call in the middle of night when the auroras was active. The restaurant provided a sack lunch for our drive out of town when we left. The staff was friendly and helpful. There was no A/C but a fan was available in the room.
We were thinking that a cruse hotel would be a great place to stay, room was comfy. Although we were across the street from the office I never felt unsafe, The room had adequate heat and light and TV, what the room did not have was internet. Vastly disappointed that it was inferior to the other accommodations available. Disappointing.
Pros: Our room was nice and clean. The room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable, the tub/shower had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The room was quiet on two of the three nights that we stayed there. There was no refrigerator in the room however when we requested one, one was dropped off right away (no extra charge). The clerk at the reception was very pleasant when we checked out. The service in the restaurant was very good. Cons: When we checked in, the receptionist was not very welcoming. When we asked for the wifi password we were told there was no wifi in our building. Our room was on the bottom floor, located next to the work shop (noisy during the day) and we had a view of the recycling bins in the alley. When we requested another room for our three nights, there was no real effort made to help us. On our third night the people upstairs were extremely noisy at 01:00 a.m. Overall the Westmark is a nice place to stay but if you plan on staying there ask for a room on the top floor that has wifi.…
