Nestled in a picturesque setting, the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge offers a rustic charm that, for many travelers, is marred by a sense of datedness and the need for renovations. While the natural beauty and variety of amenities are frequently commended, guests have called out the high prices, outdated rooms, and occasional maintenance woes. Service quality at the hotel is inconsistent, with some reviewers praising the staff's friendliness, and others experiencing slow responses. Despite its remote location, the lodge continues to attract guests seeking its scenic allure.

Prior to going to Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, we stayed at Fairmont Chateau Whistler and my husband didn't want to leave. I assured him that we would love the Jasper Park Lodge just as much, but he was skeptical. Within hours of arriving at the lodge he was a believer.

Days prior to arrival we received helpful information from the hotel, and they advised that due to staffing challenges (which so many hotels worldwide are having) they would not be able to provide daily housekeeping. They provided us with a credit to use towards meals, activities, etc. I was so impressed with their pro-active approach and the credit. So many hotels are limiting housekeeping service and not offering any credits, discounts, etc.

The hotel and the grounds (especially the lake) look like something out of a movie and when we sent photos many people didn't believe it was real. They also didn't believe that the bear my husband saw while golfing was real but it was and it is a story he will tell his golf buddies for years.

Activities - Spend as much time on the lake as you can. You won't be disappointed. We did a pedal boat and had a blast. Golfing - my husband still talking about his round and can see why this is one of Canada's top golf resorts.

Horseback Riding - there are stables on the hotel grounds (think it might be owned by a separate company). The ride was great. I did the 60 minute and wish I had signed up for 90 minutes. We went along the river and the guide shared a lot of information about wildlife and living in Jasper. The horses were well cared for and everyone at the stable was safety conscious and helpful.

We dined each night on the Patio to enjoy the lake view and the mountains in the distance. Every night we talked about eating in one of the other restaurants, but the food and the view kept us coming back. Caitlin (sp?), our waitress, was one of the best waitresses we have ever had at any restaurant. Energetic, friendly, and provided great service.

The pool is awesome and the cute trailer by the pool that serves drinks and food served yummy drinks and snacks and we didn't need to leave our pool chairs.

If you are at the hotel when the stretching class is offered, I highly recommend. It is taught by Laurie-Ann who is a former cirque de soleil performer. After hiking, walking the lakeside trail, horseback riding, etc. I needed to stretch, and Laurie-Ann showed us some great ways to stay limber.

It makes me sad to leave a review that isn't 10/10 gold stars for this property, however after visiting this property for over a decade multiple times a year, I hope this review can be used to enhance the experience for other guests, and as constructive criticism for the Fairmont/Accor team.

This property holds a place in our heart as one of the most special places on earth. We were engaged, married, and many celebrations in between have been celebrated with the JPL. The grounds at the property are just as beautiful as the first time we visited, 11 years ago. Beautiful. The rooms however, are dated, walls are thin resulting in hearing neighbours conversations perfectly well, and parking felt limited as valet is not available during the pandemic which is understandable.

Upon booking our stay we were told that the pool was open, however the gym and change rooms were closed due to COVID-19. This is understandable, and we had zero hesitation about booking once this message was conveyed. The pool area of this resort are beautiful, and one of our favourite parts of the resort, however what we were not told was that our stay was limited to 1 hour maximum, and 25 people maximum. For this reason we were turned away from utilizing this amenity. Since this is one of the reasons we stay at the property, we were extremly disappointed. Also, the hot tub is closed during the pandemic, and this was also not explained upon booking The resort experience charges remain in place at $30.00/night despite the policy for the pool area which I can justify if we are able to use the amenities, however when we are unable to fully enjoy the full experience due to social distancing and new regulations, I feel this should be discounted as we basically paid the fee for wifi which is not needed for our stay.

In closing I must say that the staff did a great job to ensure to safety of the guests and overall cleanliness of the resort, however with the increase in taxes, resort fees, and the decrease of being able to actually utilize the full property, I believe we will start looking at other options that offer similar amenities for our next stay to Jasper.

Our stay in the Outlook Cabin was the highlight of a lifetime. Similar in character to the Sagamore Great Camp (the elegantly rustic Vanderbilt home in the Adirondacks) we were over the moon to be placed in the Queen’s room where both Queen Elizabeths had once stayed. Large yet cozy, with gorgeous wood floors & log walls, huge central double sided stone fireplace, supremely comfortable sturdy artisan handcrafted furniture and handsome art works, including a large soapstone bear, beautifully appointed bedrooms, kitchen & baths. Despite its elegance, we found it easy to settle in and be extremely comfortable throughout the cottage as if it was normal for us to hangout in such splendid surroundings. Housekeeping had even already prepared the fireplace with a perfectly laid fire (kindling, paper & wood stacked which lit easily with the touch of one match).

We stayed for one night on New Year's Day in a standard cabin.

We've been to the Jasper Park Lodge restaurant and lounge a few times, but this was our first and probably our only stay.

The resort has many cabins scattered around the grounds. We stayed in the basic cabin which was an 'adjoining room' to a larger cabin with poor noise insulation between the separating doors.

The cabin was well appointed but had an odd layout that meant the TV was not comfortably visible from either the sofa or the bed. Whilst the only view was of the parked vehicles lining the road, the blinds on the windows on two sides of the small cabin provided almost no privacy. With the lights on and blinds closed, you could see almost everything in the cabin from outside. It felt like being in an odd shaped, well appointed goldfish bowl.

We booked a basic cabin so were not expecting a scenic view (we were only there for a mid-winter night anyway), but the least we expect in a hotel of any modest standard is a functional room with a degree of privacy.

It's worth mentioning that the resort was at full capacity.

We attempted to take dinner in the main lounge. However, from the time we asked to be seated, to the time we were actually served some food was over two hours. The serving staff were completely overwhelmed. Everywhere was full of uncollected dishes, the floor was full of garbage.Service was down to the very essentials, so getting a second drink was an effort and forget about anyone refilling water glasses. We could see that it was best to play it safe and asked for burger and a flatbread which were worse than a mid range chain restaurant. 'Chaotic' best summarizes the atmosphere in the lounge.

This is a review of the hotel, not the beautiful surroundings or Jasper itself. The only redeeming features of the experience was that the service in the rest of the hotel was very good despite it being at capacity, but that's what you expect from a luxury resort.

In summary we arrived expecting a pleasant stay at an iconic luxury resort in an amazing setting, albeit at a busy time of the year. However, we left wishing we had just opted for a room in one of the many cookie cutter hotels in town.

The resort really needs to find a better solution to accommodating guest's dining needs when the resort is at capacity as there are no alternatives other than getting a shuttle or taxi into town.

Overall we were quite disappointed with our stay at the Jasper Park Lodge due to the poor conditions of the room. The reason we booked at JPL was because we have come to expect a high standard at Fairmont hotels and this experience was certainly lacking. We stayed two nights for my birthday, and upon arrival we checked in to a Junior Suite and the room was filthy. Travelling during covid, we expected additional cleaning protocols to be in place, as the website states. We brought our own Lysol wipes to do some additional cleaning just to be extra safe. Every seated surface left the wipes black, as well as the window sills. The base of the table, chairs and baseboards where covered in dust. There were splatter marks on the doors and cabinets in the bathroom, the do not disturb sign was covered in mud and the bathroom floor was dirty with various debris on it. The window on the screen door looked like it had never been cleaned and there were dog nose prints on the main windows. In addition the room was extremely outdated. The curtains looked original from the 1970s and were pilling, the doors and handles were also original and made the room feel substandard. We have travelled a lot over the years and I honestly don’t remember the last time I was in such a poor quality room. Upon complaining to the front desk staff we were moved to another Junior Suite room, which was slightly better but still had many of the same issues. We did out own thorough clean of the room, which should not have to be the case. I understand that JPL has a rustic charm, which is part of the appeal, but there is such potential in the property, if only the cabins were properly renovated and cleaned. For the amount that is charged in room rates, I cannot fathom how the resort is able to operate with such poor conditions.

The staff were polite and many were helpful. The room service staff was excellent. Although we were given a birthday dessert voucher which we were unable to use with in room dining and we did not feel comfortable dining in the restaurants. We appreciated that almost all the staff around the property with the exception of a couple were wearing masks.

We decided to sneak away this weekend to the JPL.

I booked the bed and breakfast package with an additional dining credit ($150 credit for $100).

We stayed in a queen suite in the Grant House. The room was perfect ! It was a queen bedroom suite (this one had a jetted tub) with an attached parlour room with a wood fireplace. I would highly recommend this room type!

We dined at the Great Hall gastro pub in the main lobby area. The service was perfect and the meals / drinks were first rate. I had the short ribs, which were so tender they melted in my mouth.

We really enjoyed a night time soak in the hot tub.

In the morning we were fortunate enough to get reservations for the Sunday brunch at Orso. Because of Covid, they have opted for a Tapas style menu. The selection was really interesting and unique. Orso did not disappoint. All of the small plates were delicious !

The JPL has done such a good job in making a visible effort to sanitize and ensure that guests are healthy and safe. We truly felt safe and comfortable during our stay. We look forward to our next chance to stay here (Maybe we will consider bringing the dog and kids next time as the resort is so family and dog friendly.. maybe!)

Stayed at FJPL for 4 nights this summer. We booked a room in the main lodge with a view of the lake. On our arrival date we received a call in the morning saying due to a maintenance issue that caused this particular room to be occupied by someone else, we would have to stay in another room for our first night and then move. We were disappointed, but understood. We were put in one of the lake front cabin rooms at the far end of the lake. This first room was extremely spacious, however could use some modernizing and renovations. We were in Jasper during a heat wave and it would be good if FJPL invested in air conditioning units for all the rooms. Fans just don't bring the room temperature down enough for a comfortable sleep.
The actual room we booked (a 1 bedroom) was a little more modern than the first and had a wonderfully large balcony with a spectacular lake view. The room had a large bedroom with bath, a second bathroom off the entrance hallway, an enormous living room, and an eating area. For the price of the accomodations though, I would expect FJPL to invest in updating this property, the rooms, the common areas, and hallways in the main lodge are dated and showing their age.

Given the room situation when we checked in, we were offered free breakfast during our stay which was a very nice gesture. The hotel was quite busy the first few days we were there, and the restaurant for breakfast had limited seating capacity which often created long waits. To accommodate this, the hotel allowed us to have our breakfast ordered to the room which again was a very nice gesture.

With the pandemic, wearing a mask in common areas was mandatory and most guests seemed to comply. The hotel had hand sanitizer in the main lobby and appeared to have good cleaning protocol in place including in the restaurants.

The property itself is situated on Lac Beauvert which is just so beautiful; too cold to swim in, but there are peddle boats, canoes, and SUPs available to enjoy the water. There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the scenery of the lake. You can also rent bikes from the activity centre. The trail that goes around the lake is great with walking or even trail running. We found it quite peaceful in there. While we didn't see any wildlife on our run around the lake trail, we did see deer and an elk during our stay. The property also has a golf course attached to it as well as stable for horseback riding.

This is a well located, great place to base yourself for doing a lot of outdoor exploring in the area. There are plenty of amazing hikes, trails, and other lakes just short distances away. For that reason I have rated this property as very good, but if I rated it based on the condition of the rooms I would have put rated it average.

My husband and I stayed to celebrate our anniversary. Our first room we had wouldn't heat past 17 degrees, even with a plug in heater it wouldn't heat past 18. We were then moved to another room across the resort in the middle of our stay (no upgrade was offered, not even when I asked, finally they agreed to comp up breakfast the next morning). When we received the room service (which has a $6 delivery charge and 18% gratuity) it was room temperature, my butter didn't even melt on my pancakes. We left on Sunday and I texted to check out, no email was sent to us with our receipt even after I asked, twice. Finally I got the receipt and was surprised to see that I had been charged for my room, but I prepaid for the room weeks before. The money was eventually refunded but it was upsetting that I was charged and not notified.

Dear Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, we recently stayed at your property for 3 nights. We enjoyed ourselves. The waitstaff at the outdoor restaurant was very friendly and provided excellent service. The housekeeper who provided the stay over service on our third day was excellent.

There are a few items of concern that I would like to highlight: COVID has caused a lot of grief to the travel and tourism industry and I understand provincial restrictions and safeguards which is why now more than ever staying at an expensive luxury resort like the JPL should have the hotel and all of its staff delivering 120% exceptional service and attention to care. Not 100%, rather 120% when guests choose to spend hard saved pandemic savings on rooms that can cost $1000 per night such as ours.

1) The morning after our arrival we requested housekeeping service while we went out of the room for several hours only to return to an unmade room. We had to leave once again and the housekeepers were not permitted to be in the room with us at the same time even though my family is fully vaccinated. Is the JPL concerned that it's staff is going to transmit COVID to me and my family? We complained and received a complimentary breakfast the next day and we thank you for that.

2) The Swimming Pool rules for booking a one-hour time slot during the hottest heat wave on record is not reasonable. Particularly when I was told it's been fully booked for the entire week. We were "squeezed in" and when we arrived we found only 3 or 4 other people using the swimming pool; it was visually empty. We were told by JPL's own staff that the problem is that all the guests are triple booking and not showing up. This is bad. Very very bad as far as I'm concerned.

3) On our last evening I called the concierge to ask for a dinner reservation. The lady told me "I have no idea; I have never been to any of the restaurants I was asking about". She put me on hold to 'confer with colleagues". Keep in mind this is the Fairmont Resorts "concierge". She returned and said "the word in the lobby is that one of the restaurants was good" and so I asked her to kindly make me a reservation and she told me that she could not because it was not a hotel restaurant. Really? The Concierge of a luxury hotel cannot make a dinner reservation for a family of 4 people unless it's one of their restaurants? I have never in any hotel or any travel encountered that. In fact, that precisely what a hotel concierge is for! This is a very amateur move by a world-class hotel.

Ultimately we loved our few days escape from the COVID Ontario lockdown but truly this was because of the spectacular scenery and location. Your hotel is blessed to be where it is and the property is almost exclusively capitalizing on this good fortune rather than its own efforts. The landscaping on the hotel grounds was slightly upkempt (dandelion weeds on our porch) and if your hotel was in any other location I suspect it would have been closed and out of business if only based on the service concerns I have identified above.

We spent 3 nights at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in September 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The hotel staff did an excellent job of keeping everyone safe; ensuring good social distancing, staff all wearing masks, and ensuring guests did likewise. Only the Emerald Lounge (drinks, Tapas & food to go) and the Great Hall Gastropub were open, and there the menu was extremely limited. The fine dining restaurant, Orso Trattoria, was not open the 3 days we were there. On asking one staff member, we were told it is open "sometimes", usually 1 or 2 days on a weekend, but not always. Considering that we were in the midst of the pandemic, the Lodge did a very good job with a limited menu, but there were some challenges. Of the 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners we had in the Great Hall Gastropub, one of the breakfasts was totally mixed up, missing one of the ingredients we had requested in the omelette and substituting another to which one of the 2 of us is allergic. We spotted this immediately and the server and manager were very apologetic, and compted our breakfast. One of the dinners was likewise mixed up, serving what we ordered except they missed the chicken. On pointing this out, the chicken was promptly removed from the bill. Clearly the kitchen staff need more supervision/training. However the serving staff and all others with whom we interacted were 100% friendly, efficient, and well trained. The only downside and what caused us to rate the Lodge as 4* rather than 5* was that the room was a little dated and the Lodge charged the normal guest experience charge on top of the room charge, when not all the amenities were available - specifically not all dining options were available (as noted), the hot tub was not available, and the menu was very limited. We felt that as the only amenities were wi-fi and the swimming pool (not terribly usable as it is cool in late September), and given the other restrictions, there should have been no amenity surcharge.

agree with David. Huge potential - but obviously no money to invest and wrong attitude.

What does the laundry service consist of and what does it cost? Is there irons in the rooms?

We had an iron in our room. We never inquired about laundry service. It was a bit crazy when we were there because they had just opened after the mountain fires and electricity was just restored

There is Air Conditioning available in all rooms now. Windows that open do have screens from what I remember.

What options do I have for travel into Jasper (Evil Dave's Grill) for dinner? On train trip, so no car.

Depending on where you are staying there may be a shuttle from your hotel. But your hotel can also call you a cab. If you are there more than the one night you should definitely try Syrahs of Jasper, that is my favourite restaurant in Jasper.
