My husband is a front line emergency health worker, and I work in the health industry, and we were both in dire need of a mental break. Timelines were tight and we couldn't travel, so an overnight stay at our local Fairmont property was the ticket! We love the Fairmont properties and always leave feeling pampered and restored - thank you for taking such good care of us. Check-in: Effortless. We were welcomed by the valet who had our room cards ready for us. Accommodation: Upgraded to a room with a beautiful view of the river valley (thank you for that too!). Room 309 was spacious and beautiful, but a bit loud as the elevator was right beside us. Housekeeping was a bit lapse as the carpet was littered with food/debris around the credenza/bar. Confederation Lounge: Ambiance: Cozy seats; fireplace roaring; snow falling outside the beautiful windows - the perfect setting for a romantic evening of cocktails and meal. Cocktails: The Mac Signature Old Fashioned and the Psithurism was a great way to start our evening - the flavor bubble was entertaining and delightful. Meals: The Braised Short Ribs and sides of mashed potatoes and carrots were rich and flavorful. The Crispy Artic Char, however, was the opposite: distinctly lacked salt - both on the fish and the pappardelle. The fish was a touch overdone; although the skin was nicely done, it was at the expense of the fish. The pappardelle was mushy and the sauce was very bland. Service: Our waiter - don't know his name as he did not introduce himself, was quite rushed and kept walking away as we were asking for recommendations and putting in our order. His rushing about really detracted from the calm and quiet atmosphere - very disappointing experience overall.

Room Tip: Room with river valley view is fantastic, but ask for one away from the elevators.

Arrived on a Friday with early check in on the eat, park and sleep package with ALLaccor loyalty program and granted and enjoyed lunch in the confederation lounge. The hotel remained very quiet with super low occupancy it seemed during our stay. Such a beautiful room the Confederation lounge and the Harvest restaurant as well. All the other rooms of interest were locked on the lower and upper floor but i was let in to look at both the Wedgewood and the ball room on the lower level and they were lovely. Be sure to ask front desk for printed history of hotel and there is a channel on the TV in the room that plays the history of the hotel. This is our third Fairmont castle stay in the last 3 months. This hotel is the smallest and least ornate of the three which were the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City coming in first where we stayed in October 2021 and then the Banff Springs hotel in December 2021. Check in was friendly, accommodating and smooth. Attention to detail here. it felt like we were the only ones in the hotel until we went for our second meal around 830 pm in the confederation lounge where it was busy and lively. Food and Service was excellent and quality and portion size was there for sure but pricey which was not an issue. Basic lunch was around 90.00 with tip includes 2 drinks, no dessert or appetizer. Supper was around 70 which was an appetizer each and one drink each. My only complaint was ask for drinks with very little ice otherwise my vegan juice drink was likely about 2 ouches of juice and a glass full of ice for 13.00! The room 540 was auesome. We booked a king deluxe we had three big windows overlooking the river and city on the 5th floor with two large lounges. the noise from below was audiable as part of the the room was also over the cloverleaf highways and city perhaps a room a little further to the left would have been quieter and away form car traffic below. Comfortable bed and sheets and pillows nice. Two robes provided for our use, Kettle and coffee pot and fridge stocked with expensive snacks and drinks in the minifridge for purchase which we enjoyed a 30.00 bottle of delicious wine with the ease of not leaving the room! We did not like how the TV was postiioned to the right of the bed it made watching movies not great on the neck. Loved they had lots of channels including music and Chromecast. Some minor issues such as a drain not working so no bath and hot water was an issue too all reported to desk. Also some issues with vallance coming unglued and hanging and paint scraped off above bed that need fixing so it does not look run down. Now here was the only disappointing part of our lovely couples get away. If the hotel is at such a low capacity then at least have your guests spaced out a bit in their rooms when the walls between the rooms are so paper thin!! we endured loud conversation and high pitched laughing including foul language and sexually themed conversations from 930 pm until midnight. It was loud enough you could hear EVERY SINGLE Word as if they were in the room with us. It was disgusting. Even audible over the movie we were trying to watch cranked up. When it became the last straw of listening to the women talking in graphic detail of their sexual exploits we had enough and called the front desk shortly before 11 pm and asked about quiet time rules which apparently start at 10 pm. It took the hotel some time to send someone up but we about 30 minutes later we heard hotel staff knock on the door and tell these loud and foul mouthed people to be quiet. It was a bit better but they laughed after staff left and thought it was funny. I plugged my ears with paper towel annoyed and went to sleep after midnight not wanting the hassle of moving rooms with my hubby unwell and already sleeping. The hotel needs to pay attention to the paper thin quality of the walls and space guests when they are not busy.

What a way to spend the very cold holiday season in Edmonton! Our stay began with a very smooth check-in online and we were informed of the very latest Covid protocols and know what to expect. Amir at the Valet was so courteous and helpful even in the very cold weather. We showed our vaccine records and were in our room without any delays. Our room was spectacular. We had a river valley view from the 5th floor. The view was stunning in the cold grip of winter. At this time of year we were able to enjoy the sunrise and sunset. At night the city lights and bridge lights were really amazing. We enjoyed dining in the Confederation Lounge and breakfast in the Harvest Room. The food was superb visually and taste-wise. Local fresh ingredients really produce flavor. Thanks to Jacob, Michelle, Gwen, Carmen, Tyler, and David for your wonderful assistance and friendly natures. Wasn't really weather for going for walks so we read our books and enjoyed the ambience. The pool/spa was very accommodating and the staff were most friendly. Yes, the vaccine checks were done again, but they were very prompt and painless. When time came for us to leave, the check-out process was so straight forward and simple. Great time, we'll be back.
