Considering this is a fairmont and 4* we had high expectations coming here as it was our last hotel in Canada before we flew back to the UK and found this to be very short of what we expected. We were here for a total of 2 nights and once pulled up out the front, checked in and were offered a room upgrade which we accepted. After checking in we were told there is no car parking at the hotel but to park in a multistory car park at the end of the block which does connect up through a business block then onto the hotel, it is very confusing and quite a walk when you have suitcases in toe (took about 10 mins to get from the car to the hotel as you have to go up an down lifts to different levels too) Eventually we get to our room which in itself is lovely and no complaints about it as it is was large (due to upgrade) and clean. The main issue was at night, we were on the 11 floor and found that there is a train line directly outside 1 side of the hotel which trains come through all hours of the night which kept us up most of the night, we were not informed of this when checking in, so we requested a change in rooms to the other side of the hotel which was quieter but we were still charged for the room upgrade on the 2nd night which is pretty mean of the htel considering it was there issue to start with. The pool was okay and as you would expect but the Jacuzzi was broken which was a dissapointment also. Only other comment is that they also charge $15 a day for wifi which i get for free on lower * hotels which is a rip off. Overall it is an old hotel that does show its age in places and for the price we paid it should be offering more! Would advise find another hotel at a better price.…
A difficult hotel to review as it blows hot and cold. The majority of the staff were very polite and helpful. The evening meals were good but what would the chefs do without garlic. Trying to find a garlic free dish was not easy. Breakfast on the other hand was a disaster. Overcooked bacon and burnt eggs, toast that was white with a few brown lines on. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The main problem that would stop me coming back was the temperature. Bedroom, lounge and dining areas were cold. We sat with body warmers on for most of our stay.
Got an upgrade as an ALL member to a junior suite, which was great! A beautiful hotel, great location, friendly staff. In room dining was fantastic - food was delicious, especially the chicken dish. Loved the stay, will visit again if in Calgary.
Excellent From the minute we walked in the door attention to detail was excellent. Room very high standard. Ordered room service very quick and food good. Was going to have drink in lounge but tired. Drinks were expensive. Would certainly stay there again
Beautiful hotel but one that lacked the personal touch. The ambience was one of luxury, fabulous pool and spa area, impressive lobby and large comfortable rooms. However I thought the service and attention which makes a hotel truly great was missing. It was summed up in several ways. My Husbands locker malfunctioned at the swimming pool. He had to wait nearly an hour for someone to come and unlock it. The waiter in the dining room, stormed off when we asked if we could do one tip after breakfast rather than one at supper as well ( we were at the end of our trip and needed more dollars!!) The only good service we had was from the door man who carried our bags to the bus stop and explained how to get tickets. The food in the evening was ok. Again a beautiful setting but a mediocre meal. Breakfast was excellent. So overall felt that it fell short of what we expected from the cost and expectation.…
Our room was next to the rail tracks that ran all night and very loud. The people next door had a dog that barked all night. This hotel chain encourages dogs but let then stay anywhere in the hotel rather than one floor or one section. The card keys did not work and we had to go to desk twice. Would not recommend.
Would not recommend as this fairmont fell short of what the fairmont standard truly is. Very disappointing. Every other fairmont i have stayed at has exceeded my my expectations. There was to many issues the biggest one being no air conditioning in the room.
Very disappointed for a 5 star hotel. A lot of amenities were missing - when I complained by email housekeeping did up their service - unfortunately customer service did not even acknowledge my email. Very disappointing customer service.
For the price paid parking should be included with the room but costs $45. Trains running constantly through the night left very little sleep. 10/10 would never stay there or recommend to any kind of friend.
Booked a night at the Fairmont Palliser as we were in Calgary to pick up another puppy to keep our pup company and we needed a pet friendly hotel. We normally stay out of the downtown core but I've never spent a night inside downtown Calgary and wanted to explore it - what better way than the Fairmont? As booking other Fairmont properties the booking process was easy and straightforward and the photos/descriptions of the rooms are helpful in making an informed choice on a room. When we arrived the Palliser was very busy due to a couple of events (wedding and anniversary) but despite the hustle and bustle, the employees were very attentive to all guests. We pulled up out front to offload our bags and the gentleman at the front asked us if we were parking via valet, to which we were not originally and were going to park ourselves but when he explained that they would have a spot for our tall truck and that we could order it to the front whenever we required it we decided to have it valet parked. The very polite and kind gentleman gave us our valet slip, took all of our bags and I continued to the check in desk. The check in desk had a bit of a line up for check ins but the lady behind the counter was very polite and considerate to each guest, ensuring that they had everything they needed, and had no remaining questions before thanking them for staying at the Palliser and moving onto the next guest. When I got to the counter I was no exception. She explained where my room was, location of the elevators, Hawthorn Dining Room & Bar, the spa, and Starbucks locations, and how to retrieve my vehicle from the valet when required. She asked if I had any more questions, thanked me for staying at the Palliser and continued onto the next guest. Then came taking the magnificent hotel in. From the extravagant grand lobby, to the antiquated elevators that took us to the 7th floor to our room. The hallways to our room were well lit and stylish. We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived at our room to have a corner room! Having never seen the Calgary tower up close our room had a view looking straight out at it!!! The room was decorated very modern with a traditional touch, and the bathroom was renovated to adapt to current style and comfort. The best part - everything in the hotel was VERY clean!!! The bed, chairs and sofa in our room was very comfortable and we got a wonderful night's sleep. In the morning we ordered breakfast to our room as we obviously couldn't dine in the restaurant with our pup. Our breakfast was delivered very quickly on a beautiful set table for two. A nice touch. Breakfast was as delicious as it looked and smelled. As we got ready to leave, we called to have the valet bring our vehicle out front and it was there as we were checking out, ready for our bags which were loaded in our vehicle with care. I loved staying in this hotel and cannot wait to stay here again! Thank you Fairmont Palliser staff for a wonderful stay - keep up the amazing work!…
