Karen at the front desk is absolutely fantastic. She was so kind, caring, and helpful - and went the extra mile for me and my husband. It really put a positive spin on our entire experience. We also liked the the "downstairs" bar, because it had great dessert cocktails.

Hotel's Favorite
We just finished a three night stay at the Post Hotel & Spa. In all fairness, we tried to get into the Fairmont but couldn't and out travel agent booked us at the Post Hotel instead. Boy were we glad. While the Fairmont is right on Lake Louise (and if you have a room on the side of the hotel you would have a breathtaking view of one of the world's most beautiful sights), it is a very large, very busy overrun hotel. The Post Hotel is about a mile and a half from Lake Louise and in town (such as it is). One caveat, public parking at Lake Louise is often impossible so expect to take a public of private shuttle. Our room was very rustic in decor but clean and comfortable. Be aware, there is no air conditioning in the hotel so if you come during August when its warm (which we did), your room could be a bit uncomfortable. The staff is really what sets this hotel apart. Everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) was friendly and helpful. We ate dinner at the fine dining restaurant one night and the meal was truly exceptional (especially when you consider we were miles and miles away from a big city). The hotel is famous for its wine list and it did not disappoint. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and helpful and his assistant gave us a tour of the wine cellar before dinner. We ate dinner another night in the casual pub and the food was definitely better than normal pub food. I want to single out Rachel who worked behind the bar and also served us our food. She was so friendly and but up with special requests and a million questions. Two quick asides. There are very few dining options in Lake Louise but we also ate at the Train Station at it was very good if you want to go off premises for a dinner. finally, don't miss the Columbia Icefields about an hour and a half north of Lake Louise. Very much worth the trip. I am not sure we will ever be back in Lake Louise but if we do come back, we will for sure stay at the Post Hotel.

We did a trip through the Canadian Rockies and Glacier. We stayed at a lot of top rated properties but found the Post to be the best of all. While the views are not like some of the others, the character and service of the Post was second to none. And their food is fantastic!

This is a VERY nice hotel. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. It looks (and feels) like a large log cabin and/or lodge and i would think in the winter it is even nicer. We had the Executive Loft Suite 1 King with a living room and full bathroom on the lower level and a king bed and 1/2 bath on the upper level. I would have preferred the full bath upstairs where the bed is located but that was a very minor issue. There was a wood-burning fireplace in our room which was very nice. We did not use it but there was wood and matches had we wanted to. The bed was very comfortable. On the night-stand is a large rock and, if you do not want the sheets changed, you leave the rock on the bed (which we did after our first night there). Was hoping for a sheet change on the 2nd night but it was skipped that night as well. No biggie. There were two robes in the closet (as well as slippers) which were probably the most comfortable hotel robes we have ever worn. Every morning there was complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby (with danish available for purchase). Every afternoon there was complimentary coffee/tea service which was also lovely. Beautiful to sit out on the lawn in Adirondack chairs with a pot of tea. The hotel was located a 1 minute walk (across a small, quaint bridge which crossed the river) to the 'shopping center' which had a couple of coffee shops, a small market, a liquor store and everything you would need. We took advantage of the pool and spa. The pool is beautiful and there is a hot tub and a steam room. After a day of hiking, slipping into the hot tub was delightful. We also arranged for massages which were first-rate. All of the staff was professional and friendly. My only complaint about the hotel....the website indicates that some of the rooms have mountain view which also overlooks the parking lot and SOME noise from passing trains. In fact, the noise from passing trains is almost constant. Even without blowing their horns, the noise from the trains woke us frequently. And these are commercial freight trains which means that they are VERY long and can take quite a while to pass (i counted 169 cars on one of them). Bottom line: This is a wonderful hotel which i would definitely recommend BUT if you are sensitive to that, def get a room on the river side. We also ate at in the Dining Room which i will review separately.

First the bad… We’ve been travelling around Canada for a couple of weeks now and this is the first hotel we’ve stayed in with so few in-room facilities. There is no fridge, not even a minibar. There are no tea or coffee making facilities (a first for us in Canada!) and there’s no ironing board or iron, despite their (expensive) restaurant having a smart dress policy. This was a problem for us as after two weeks travelling our clothes were getting pretty crumpled. We phoned reception to ask for an iron and board which they said they’d bring right away. Forty minutes passed before we phoned them again, still nothing so we went to reception to ask again. Eventually it arrived and within 5 minutes we had the same person that delivered it asking if we’d finished with it yet. We hadn’t. Another five minutes later and a different person came asking the same thing; I was losing my patience at this point and sent her away again. The rooms are rustic with old pine furniture and a TV, ours had two smallish double beds and a couple of armchairs. The good… The bathroom was lovely with a good selection of L’Occitane toiletries, a lovely powerful shower and a jacuzzi bath with complimentary bath salts. A bottle of water and a small baked treat is left as part of the turn-down service which is a nice touch. The room has a very secure safe and ours had bathrobes, slippers, and a fan heater. There’s a good pool and a gym as well as spa facilities and also complimentary afternoon tea is served each day with cakes available to purchase. The hotel is close to a bakery and grocery store but buying food is limited as there’s no fridge in the room to keep it fresh as previously mentioned. The staff are all pleasant and courteous.

We enjoyed two wonderful days here in late July and did not want to leave. It’s an exceptionally lovely, well-maintained and managed historic hotel with a great restaurant. Its gracious Old World charm and finesse is seamlessly supported by modern conveniences and a focus on guests’ comfort. Our room was #235, an upper floor K-Suite quiet corner unit overlooking the river – with lots of windows (that open!), and a good-sized balcony. Peaceful, private, comfortable suite with woodsy cabin décor and two recently upscale, upgraded and roomy bathrooms. Hotel is located 3 minutes from Highways #1 and #93 and easy walking distance of shops near Visitor’s Center. Ample free parking. Attentive, friendly and helpful staff for easy check-in and check-out, questions, even luggage storage for several hours. Early each morning there’s coffee & tea in the Lobby that can be enjoyed while sitting in large, overstuffed chairs facing out towards memorable views of Banff’s peaks. Breakfasts are superb – fresh and good selection. We had one fixed prix dinner in the Dining Room which was $$$...and worth every penny!!! – exceptionally fresh, perfectly prepared and presented. There’s a professionalism and quality at The Post that is difficult to find elsewhere in Lake Louise. Excellent location to use as base for day trips. Tip: ask for rooms facing the river versus the opposite side of the hotel that faces the parking lot, road, and train tracks. From our river-side corner room we never heard train or road noise, just singing birds and whispering pines.

Bed was comfortable. Service was outstanding. We were lucky to pay a little more for room on backside near stream instead on side trains go by so had a quiet night. Based on trains going by it would be noisy on that side. There is NO AIR CONDITIONING so windows had to be left open and even then room was uncomfortable and did not cool until after midnight. So trains would also be loud if on that side of building. Main reason I could not give it is a 5 star is no air conditioning. For $600 a night amazed it did not have air conditioning.

Very nice building, clean and tidy rooms. The dinner in the dining room is good, while overpriced. However, the general service level is hardly 3 star. Food in the pub is poor, the front desk does not want to be disturbed and the hot tub and pool area is poorly maintained and the Sauna is only available when a treatment is booked in addition. Unfortunately, treatments are booked for days in advance so you can't book one on arrival. Overall not worth the money.

Our room was very dated , I don't think the furniture and TV or carpet have been changed out in 20 years . This place needs to be remodeled badly for what they are charging per night . No air conditioning. I know the hotel was bought out by rockey mountain resorts last year but they have not put any money into this hotel since they took over, terrible . Food in the restaurants is poor quality and way over priced . We have stayed at the post a lot over the years but I don't think I will return unless they dramatically fix this place up

I rarely take the time to write a post a poor review but I was offended by the experience and particularly the value proposition of the Post Hotel. The $900.00 inc. tax room with a river view didn’t have one, was claustrophobically small and didn’t have a coffee maker. My welcome half bottle of champagne was addressed to Bruce- I’ve no idea who Bruce is, although I drank it anyhow. On arrival we dragged our baggage by two hotel staff who didn’t offer to help. Dinner was fine but breathtakingly overpriced, had a view of the parking lot and the train tracks which was depressing particularly given the beauty of the region. Two stars might be generous..
