Finca Villa Nora is a heritage country house with more than 120 years of history and tradition in coffee culture. The house was built in the earlier 20th century and in the last two decades has been refurbished to provide the best accommodation for tourists in the coffee growing axis (Eje Cafetero - Quindio). The two-story house is a great example of the Antioquian Colonization Coffee Architecture with spacious corridors, terraces and a wide wraparound verandah. It provides wonderful views of our preserved Bamboo Forest (Guadua) and the majestic Andes Mountains which give visitors a unique sunrise and sunset experiences. Finca Villa Nora (finca is another word for hacienda) is located in Quimbaya in a perfect spot that's equidistant from the two main Park attractions in the region: The National Coffee Park (Parque Nacional del Cafe) and PANACA (Parque Nacional de la Cultura Agropecuaria) both only 20 minutes drive from the Finca, to where we can arrange transportation. The house is surrounded with more than 600 square meters of gardens with tropical uniquely different species of flowers and plants including 30 different species of heliconias and orchids, exotic trees and stunning butterflies and birds. We also provide a free tour of our coffee plantation or if you just want to relax you can enjoy all of this by the pool. We like to treat our guests with the highest quality of food that includes locally grown products and fruits like avocado, oranges, clementines grown in our garden and on arrival you can also try our famous coffee cocktail. During the last 20 years, Finca Villa Nora has been honoured to receive special guests including Juan Valdez the Colombian coffee icon; and high UNESCO diplomats who made the decision to grant the region a world heritage title - The Coffee Cultural Landscape (Paisaje Cultural Cafetero) for which we feel both, honoured and inspired. If you want to explore the Coffee Growing axis or simply relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings, there is no better place than Finca Villa Nora.

The finca has been in the family for 130 years or so and it has been tastefully restored with antique furniture giving a real sense of history. The rooms are comfortable with good showers and the linen sparkling fresh. Again all traditionally furnished. Some of the beds are on the small aside for a double but we were offered a two room suite as compensation. Dona Nora and Don Roberto are gracious hosts, with a farm tour by the Don a must for visitors, though knowledge of Spanish is helpful. While we were there, there was a buff-necked ibis nest just above the lovely pool with two large chicks. Sitting in the cool terrace and birdwatching is my idea of heaven. The food is excellent too, freshly prepared from fresh Ingredients by Adriana and Joanna. I could have spent longer just sitting and enjoying nature in this glorious spot. A great base for coffee and Cocora expeditions.

Situated a 10-minute walk with Quimbaya, this finca is a little slice of paradise. The house itself is lovely and well-maintained, but it is really the hospitality that stands out. Nora will go out of her way to make sure you are comfortable and arrange all your transportation/day trips etc. This is still rural living so there are bugs/geckos about etc but it is a very comfortable rural living with hot showers and clean rooms etc. Nora and the workers themselves are mostly Spanish-speaking so be prepared to speak Spanish most of the time.

Our group stayed 5 days at Finca Villa Nora. It was a remarkable experience. The farm is beautiful! Great views of the fields and countryside and birds and wildlife everywhere. We had a tour of the coffee fields and learned how they grow, harvest and prepare their wonderful coffee for sale. Our hosts Nora and Roberto, arranged tours to nearby towns, shared stories of the history of the farm and helped make our stay memorable. Javier and the rest of the staff provided excellent food and service and saw to our every need. And the coffee - oh my, it was good! We were sad to leave and plan to return next year.

We visited for a family reunion and had a fantastic time.

The staff was excellent and the food was great.

We stayed in an upstairs room with a beautiful view of the pool and grounds.

The best experience we've had in Colombia.

Thank you Nora and Roberto and staff for a fun and memorable visit.

Make sure you ask Nora to arrange some activities such as horse back riding and trips to local villages.

Beautiful, relaxed location with delicious home cooked food. Comfortable clean rooms, with a view of the pool. Lovely hummingbirds, plants and people. The coffee tour with Roberto was fantastic, and even though I didn't speak spanish he made sure that I understood every step. His home and the land was stunning! a wonderful stay with delicious fresh fruit, a good way to relax after 24 hours of travel.

We spent three nights at Finca Villa Nora and would have loved to stay longer. Nora, Roberto and their fantastic team go the extra mile in every possible way. We loved the attention to detail and felt instantly at home, while at the same time completely disconnected from the pace of the everyday world. We enjoyed delicious breakfasts and tasty dinners paired with fabulous views from the veranda. Make sure to take a stroll through the amazing garden with an incredible variety of tropical fruit and flowers!

Location and Access – The villa is in a remote rural location on the outskirts of the small town of Quimbaya about 50 to 60 minutes by private car from Armenia airport.

Google Earth – The property can just about be seen from the road on street view

Architectural Style – Traditional 2 storey finca mainly of wooden construction. Most rooms on the ground floor and on the 1st floor a wrap around veranda reached by external staircases with several more rooms, sitting and dining areas and the kitchen

Reception – No formal reception area. I was warmly greeted by the owner and her staff who speak little or no English and was supplied with a delicious ice cream coffee flavoured welcome cocktail

Public Areas/Decor – All maintained immaculately. The grounds in particular, which contain a small swimming pool, are a burst of colour and alive with many species of birds

Guest Facilities – In the sitting room area a TV

Food Offering – Excellent freshly prepared breakfasts and 3 course evening meals

Guest Rooms – Vary in size and amenities

Space – Mine was on the ground floor and benefitted from a patio with a north eastern facing view of the garden. The room itself was very small and cell like

Decor/Maintenance/Cleanliness – Everything appeared clean with simple décor and some artwork on the wall

Furnishing/Bed – This was very traditional. Reasonable size double bed, side tables, open fronted wardrobe and suitcase stand and no room for anything more. Rocking chair on the patio

Bathroom – This looked to have been renovated recently and tiled. Shower was powerful enough with a good supply of hot water. Cold water only wash basin. Complimentary toiletries

Amenities including Entertainment – No in room TV, fridge or tea/coffee making. Jugged water left in the room each evening. Very few sockets for charging mobile devices (with adaptor). Whether a coincidence or not my mobile phone encountered a technical problem whilst being charged. WiFi was generally good but seemed to drop out at a certain time each evening

Lighting – Pretty dim. Natural light only by opening wooden shutters (covering meshed windows (no glazing)) and by opening the door (not recommended in order to keep out pests)

Heating/Air Conditioning -None other than a desk top fan

Noise - My room was located next to a wooden staircase and below the kitchen so there was quite a bit of noise from creaking floorboards. Nature lovers will appreciate the chitter and chatter of all the wildlife – but it kept me awake!

Security – No in room safe. Yale lock on room door

X Factor – The Villa Nora gives the traveller the opportunity to experience what it would have been like to live in a traditional wealthy family finca of yesteryear in a glorious remote rural landscape. Wildlife devotees and ornithologists in particular will adore this place

I was greeted warmly by Senora Nora and her staff, especially Carolina who took such great care of me. I was in this fine finca for five days, most likely more than most tourist stay, yet I enjoyed the quiet, relaxing setting, walked along the road which passed the finca each day for a few miles, toured the banana and coffee farms, and attempted to talk with the locals. The breakfasts are always good and Carolina presented me with arepas with breakfast although I don't usually eat cornbread here in North Carolina for breakfast. I do however love cornbread. My only problem, and I found it in every accommodation, was the very hard beds. If you love a calm and quiet setting, then you will love Finca Nora. If you go into Quimbaya, a fifteen minute walk, eat at the restaurant on the second balcony in the plaza, can't remember the name, but it begins or ends with Balcon. This is about the only restaurant I would recommend in this town.
