Stayed here for our anniversary. The area has some good walks and the scenery is stunning. The pub is the most friendliest and relaxed that we've ever been in. The choice of real ales is excellent and the food is fantastic (only criticism is the portions were too big for me!) staff are very friendly too and the locals live... More

Great pub with a fantastic atmosphere! Amazing live bands and open mic night. Very dog friendly pub, and a nice warm countryside vibe. Fantastic freshly made food and lovely en-suite rooms. All round an outstanding pub.

Just looked on line at the new menu, only one vegetarian option, also where are the prawns and fish dishes, it seems to be a lot of beef. Disappointing again. The pub is very inside very oldy worldy selling a selection of fine ales. they also have their own brewery on site which you can look round and sample different... More

Regularly drop in this place when out walking. Love the variety of real ales. The food is always good be it a bar snack or full meal. The carvery on a Sunday is fantastic. Good vibe about the place. Good mix of locals & tourists. Oh & I like the fact it's dog friendly too.

We visited this pub on a Sunday evening and on arrival we didn't feel welcomed / no staff approached us to offer any assistance on our pre booked table. The food was very good but the service could have been better. The cutlery was rather dirty and we had to grab it from other tables for our pudding as we... More

After a day in the rain visiting a national trust property we decided to find the Old Poets Corner having seen it in the CAMRA guide. How was the pub? Brilliant as it has plenty of character and characters. but no strange looks that you normally get at village locals. It also has the feel of a flemish bar (in... More

Bowling in Mattock we decided to book somewhere to stay. We searched and found this place. The hospitality was superb. The place was clean and tidy and had character by the bucket full. The beers and ciders were delicious and served with love for the craft of brewing them. We will go back and sooner rather than later. This could... More

Over the last 20 years I have visited this pub 4 or 5 times every year. My last visit was very disappointing. The barman was quite rude, showing off to the regulars at the bar and refused to serve my son without ID - he had previously been served there on several occasions without question. The food prices appeared to... More
