After a day in the rain visiting a national trust property we decided to find the Old Poets Corner having seen it in the CAMRA guide. How was the pub? Brilliant as it has plenty of character and characters. but no strange looks that you normally get at village locals. It also has the feel of a flemish bar (in... More

Bowling in Mattock we decided to book somewhere to stay. We searched and found this place. The hospitality was superb. The place was clean and tidy and had character by the bucket full. The beers and ciders were delicious and served with love for the craft of brewing them. We will go back and sooner rather than later. This could... More

Over the last 20 years I have visited this pub 4 or 5 times every year. My last visit was very disappointing. The barman was quite rude, showing off to the regulars at the bar and refused to serve my son without ID - he had previously been served there on several occasions without question. The food prices appeared to... More

Four of us Stayed for 3 nights mid May to enjoy local walking. Thank you Darren, everything you and your team did made our stay very enjoyable nothing was too much trouble. Excellent range of beers, tried most of them. Food was lovely and good portions. Rooms clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again when in this area.

Visited for Sunday lunch following a walk in the area. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming and made an effort to make our son feel important, which was lovely. The food was very nice and the Yorkshire puddings were huge. My only criticism was that the carrots hadn't been peeled which made them look unappetising. Other than that the... More

Having read several reviews, mine seems out of place regarding the food. I found the beef cobbler "ok", but our guests found the beef tough and left a fair amount. My wife ordered something different but was told after a while that the meal was unavailable. Why wasnt we told at the point of ordering? We chose to eat within... More

Comfortable & clean rooms, nice breakfast room added to excellent choice of beer (including their own from the brewery attached). Good selection of food all of which was good, dog & walker friendly and located in the centre of a pretty village.
