Set on the Chatsworth Estate, Beeley is one of those picturesque unspoilt country villages. And The Devonshire Arms is one of those picturesque country inn at the heart of village life. But with a difference! It offers the charm and character of an historic inn with a warm and comfortable interior full of oak beams and stone crannies. Make your way through to the brasserie and be amazed at the contrast of the startlingly different décor with panoramic windows overlooking the village, the contemporary bar, the glass fronted wine store and colourful furnishings. And for the ultimate escape, why not stay in one of our eight stylish cottage bedrooms.

Lovely comfy room with a super large bath in the bedroom, so not far to go from bath to bed, we loved it. Food was excellent as was the service. The Inn is very close to Chatsworth and that was our main reason for choosing this accommodation. I know there's nothing we can do about dogs in the bar, but if like me, you have an allergy to dog fur then be warned, when we stayed we had to climb over them to get to the restaurant. That's my only downer.

This is a pub with rooms so not a hotel in the true sense of the word in fact you could struggle to get a seat in the bar on occasions I guess. Our room (Wye) was very comfortable and well appointed and no grumbles - even fresh milk in the fridge which is a nice touch. The breakfast also was very good as was the price paid including tickets for Chatsworth. Where they fall down is dinner. We were hungry and kept it simple but the wait from order to delivery was over 45 minutes and as I have said many times - do not take the booking if you cannot deliver the service. Others were also waiting a similar length of time. The burger I ordered was over cooked and dry and would have gone straight back were it not for possibility of another 45 minute wait. This would prevent me booking again as there is no competition close by. Really wanted to love this place - but didn't.

After a warm welcome all seemed to descend to mediocrity. The suite upgrade was a disappointment as the room was tired, the bathroom needed some remedial attention to replace mouldy filling around the bath and the toiletries were not what one would expect. The food was a huge disappointment - the soufflé was deposited on a plate with no finesse whatsoever, the crab was tasteless and for the price shockingly presented, the pie was only warm and over cooked, the pork was, well, below average for a gastro pub let alone a restaurant that boasts quality food. The service was not good either. The wine was delightful but seriously overpriced. Having stayed at the sister establishments on many occasions, this trip was a huge disappointment to us both. It’s also interesting that Management don’t seem to make comment to good or bad reviews.

The Devonshire Arms is a very smart pub on the Chatsworth Estate. The food was very good standard fayre. Sausage & Mash with Onion Gravy, Fish & Chips, Avocado & Bacon Sandwich, all very tasty! Friendly Staff & immaculate toilets. Much to recommend!

We had been recommended this hotel by many people so maybe our expectations were too high. We paid £269 for a very small room with mould in the bathroom but no matter, dinner was included and we had high hopes for that. I, wrongly, assumed that there would be a set menu as dinner was included but no we had a budget of £32.50 per person which really didn't go very far - the steak was £28 leaving £4.50 for the rest of the meal. My husband is a coeliac (gluten free) and usually he is treated with positivity but not at The Devonshire Arms - the waiter couldn't find anything which was gluten free, so I suggested the steak (which is why I mentioned it earlier) but he said the chips aren't gluten free and who would want steak without chips (which were extra btw) so I found the pork belly and he ordered that. The menu is not extensive but I don't think we have had so much trouble/negativity with a gluten free diet anywhere but here. For pudding the Head Chef came to our table to discuss what he could do which was gluten free offering the crumble without the topping (who would want that?). I don't want to be all negativity but it was not quite the lovely experience we were expecting but on the plus side I really enjoyed my fish, the breakfast was good and we loved Beeley and had a faboulous walk to Chatsworth. We did try to book without dinner but were told dinner, bed and breakfast was the only way to book a room. We won't be coming back.
