It can be confusing arriving in Ha Giang, as resources for tourists are still developing. We offer free advice about travel in Ha Giang province. Where will you go? What will you need? How can you get closer with the local people? We can answer these questions, and help you have an enjoyable and memorable trip to our homeland. Our goal is to promote sustainable tourism to Ha Giang province, and thereby encourage the development of new jobs for the local people. Also, when local people see that tourists are interested in their traditions and in the nature that surrounds their villages, it encourages them to preserve these things. Ha Giang is blessed with some of the most incredible scenery in the world, much of which is located within the newly opened Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark. The Geopark contains not only incredible natural beauty, but also amazing ethnic diversity. 17 different ethnic minority groups live in the Geopark, each with their own unique dress, language, and traditions. Unfortunately, the people of Ha Giang are also some of the most impoverished in Vietnam. By developing the tourist industry here, the local people can have access to higher paying and more sustainable jobs, while also preserving their cultures. Bông means "bloom" in Vietnamese, and is the name of the owner's niece. Our logo represents a little girl whose dream is to one day travel and see the world. The Cafe was opened in August 2015, and the Hostel opened next door in April 2016. In addition to providing free travel advice, we aim to offer all services that a tourist might need: Do you need a place to stay? Do you need to rent motorbikes? Do you want to book a tour with a local guide? Do you need bus tickets? Please contact Bông Hostel & Cafe and let us help you! Thanks, The Bông team

I came to Ha Giang and stayed here for one night to be able to start the Ha Giang Loop the next day. Going to the Bong Hostel was the best choice I could make. First of all spending a night there was very pleasant as the rooms are clean and the beds are comfy and second of all I also rented my bike from Bong Hostel and it was amazing. The bike was in perfect condition with only around 6000 km on it and the helmet I got was completely new as well. Perfectly equipped, the lovely manager Ann gave me a very detailed description of the most important points I need to visit on the loop, which made my journey perfect. I came back one day earlier than planned and even got the rental for one day refunded. Thanks for the amazing time, once I come back to Vietnam I will definitely visit your place again!

I stayed for a full month, two weeks intended and the other half due to the corona-situation to that time. Many hostels closed around that period and I was really lucky to be able to stay in a hostel like this to wait till I could move on. The hostel is well equipped (fast Wifi, confy beds, big lockers, pool table, loads of tables to work on, washing service) and super clean (esp. in terms of bathrooms). The restaurant is around 5min away and offers some delicious food, and breakfast is served directly at the hostel. The staff is very friendly and assists you with organizing your Ha Giang Loop as well as the connection to Hanoi or Sapa.

Hostel itself was very clean, modern and new. Breakfast was good. We arrived on a night bus at midnight and the reception staff were very helpful and we were able to check in straight away. The next day they had a ‘how to ride a (semi automatic) motorbike lesson at 9 am, which was helpful and after that we were able to hire the motorbikes directly from the hostel (they were very new - mine had only done 10,000 kms!). We missed the daily info session which is held at 9pm the night prior, but staff were helpful and showed us on the map exactly where to go. We left as a convoy at 11am with one of the Bông hostel staff who led the way to the police check point (they were on lunch). Couldn’t recommend this place more highly if you are looking for all the info/motorbike hire to do the ha giang loop without a guide.

My girlfriend and I stayed in the hostel after getting in at 3am on a sleeper bus. We rang the bell and someone immediately checked us in. The beds were super comfortable. The next day we rented a bike for the Ha Giang loop. The hostel will help you with any problems you have along the way and know mechanics everywhere if you have issues! Best hostel to do the loop with. Small groups and great people.

Me and my friend loved our stay at Bông. The staff was very nice and helpful with everything. The hostel it self was very fresh and the beds were nice. We stayed here the night before we started the Ha Giang loop. Bông also arranged easy riders for us. The guys were very helpful and we couldn’t have been in better hands along the bumpy roads. They showed us where to eat and the hostels we stayed in during the nights was also good. 10/10 for Bông hostel!!

If you're looking to do "The Loop" in Ha Giang, Bong Hostel and Motorbike Rental is THE place to start. The hostel itself is clean and the beds are comfortable and private feeling. The motorbikes are all in great shape and are serviced regularly so you won't have a problem on the loop. Now the best part, the staff! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and speak English fairly well. When you do "The Loop" go with their guide! Ha made sure we stopped at all the best spots for pictures and interesting sites. He was also extremely helpful for anything a rider needed. I got a tire puncture (luckily) just as we were getting in on the first day and it was fixed in the morning when I went to my bike. Excellent service! From hostel, to motorbike rental, to the Bong Restaurant, They have the entire experience covered. You can't go wrong with these guys!

So I’ll start off with the positives. The best place to do the loop with. They care about your safety so much. The bikes are new and amazing. And they do give a free lesson on how to use semi automatic which is key. They include a free guide, also amazing. Our guide was wonderful. Little to no English but we loved him. And they keep small group sizes which is exactly what you want for the loop. The reasons why I’m giving them a 3/5. We were told twice at the information session that we would see the Chinese border. And go see another look out close to the border. This was something that every single person on the tour wanted to see. We saw neither of them. We tried to tell our guide we wanted to go and he just kept saying no. We then found out that he was banned from China so wasn’t allowed near the border. Then why send him with a group on a tour that is supposed to go near that area twice? We also called the manager of the hostel for her to communicate to the guide we wanted to go. She then told us she told him not to take us because he roads were bad. So we didn’t end up going/didn’t have a choice. We met a multiple people at the Home stays who had gone that same day and everyone said that the drive was fine. This really sucked. Also the manager Ann has a horrible attitude. She made it seem like every question you asked her was a stupid one and she couldn’t bother to waste her time to talk to you. Everyone on our tour had this same feeling so it’s not just us. It also seems like the hostel is a little money hungry as they are the only hostel we came across in Vietnam after a month of being there who charged for a towel AND asked for a deposit. Everything you needed had a charge and a deposit. It seemed a little much. Overall the facilities were fine. The rooms clean. Bathroom clean. Only downside was if more than one person was showering there would be no hot water. And after coming back from four wet days on the loop. A cold shower was the last thing we wanted. I would recommend this hostel for anyone looking to do the loop though. Primarily because of the group size they go out with.

Hi Thank you for your kind words overall in reccomending us for the loop, as you rightly say we are the best. I would like to address the issues you have.... Firstly none of our guides have ever left vietnam..... So it would be very difficult for him to be banned from a country he has never visited.... With regards to the quality of the roads..... We have to put the group safety first and that is based on everyones riding ability.... In bad weather the roads to Lung Cu can be very hard. Therefore it was a decision taken with the groups safety in mind. As we explained the FREE guide that travels with you without any charge is there for the majority of the group... You are free to leave at any given point and go off and meet up again any time you wish. With regards to been money hungry we are actually the very opposite.... The deposits are there to stop theft.... unfortunatley the minority ruin things for the majority .... In 2019 we lost 86 towels in 7 months ..... As you can imagine this is a huge cost to us..... it is less than $4 per night for a western bed ( not vietnamese standard) free breakfast, free information, free wifi, and a free guide whos salary we have to pay, fuel we have to pay, food and his bed on the loop.... Out of all the hostels in Vietnam very very few provide a free guide as it is a huge expense..... We however want our guests to be safe and have a great experience so we take on this cost to enhance our customer service. With regards to the deposits and charges - we offer many services most hostels do not.... Those however are obviously very difficult to include in a $4 room rate.. So yes a few extras are associated with small charges to ensure those things can still be viable.... Whilst we try to offer the very best value in town... It is still a business and has huge operating costs and very low room rates there is a very fine line to survive. I am suprised at your comments regarding Ann as she is usually renowned for her customer service.... The free talk regarding the loop she does every night is extra work for her as she is supposed to finish at 8pm - she stays 2 hours extra every day to ensure that you have a detailed overview of your next 4 or 5 days and what to expect. I have passed on your comments but I can only presume you caught her on an of moment. I have worked with her for many years and have never witnessed any of the things you commented on. If you would like to discuss your experience in further detail I would be happyt to discuss it further and you can reach us at info@bongbackpacker.com Thanks again for your kind words and I hope my reply has clarified most of the issues you experienced. Enjoy the rest of your time in Vietnam Thanks Bong

We did the loop for 4 days and got a free guide with us. His name is Hà, he is really nice and sweet. He took us to the most beautiful places at the ha giang loop. We had a wonderful time with him and the loop wouldn’t have been the same without him. ( + he really takes some nice pictures ;))

Bong Hostel was a great place to begin the Ha Giang loop. We were given brand new semi-auto scooters. There is a free info session every evening on the loop and a free guide provided to escort us out of Ha Giang city (a guide for the entire trip is also available for $). Super friendly and very informative, easy to make friends or join a group.
