Great time fishing with Israel on Rosa Maria. He put in the hard work to get us on a Striped Marlin and we will have a freezer full of Dorado. The hotel is great for fishing and all other east cape adventures. The bay view restaurant has great food, staff and nightly live music. The hot tub was great after a long day of fishing or off road exploring. This would be a five star review if the beautiful pool was heated.
Awesome Day Fishing With Palmas De Cortez Hotel. Fishing With Captain Israel Castro On His Super Panga Rose Maria was Great. Smooth Riding Panga And Fast. I Caught 3 Dorado And My First Blue Marlin Released. Captain Israel estimated At 180 Pounds. I Battle It For About 1 Hour Such A Beautiful Beast Of The Sea Of Cortez. Captain Israel Is A Friendly Guy And Knows The Area's To Catch Quality Size Fish And Likes To Sportfish. We Fished Up North Of The Hotel Outside Of Bahia De Los Muertos. Good Times With Palmas De Cortez Hotel.
Nice small hotel. Not quite a resort, but a resort feel in a small place. We had a pool side view, which was great for jumping out for a quick swim, or to grab a drink from the bar, or to head down to the beach. AC worked great, and beds are comfortable. No TV in the room, which we are fine without a TV, but some people might need one. There was a mini fridge, but no coffee maker, or any other kitchen type appliances. Not even glasses, or mugs. Surface areas for storing your travel junk was limited, but enough, and the closest is huge. We couldn’t open the safe, but we didn’t really need it. Bathroom was fine. No complaints. Hot water took a minute to heat up, but it got there. We are vegan, and the kitchen was able to make us some really good veggie tacos. Amazing guacamole and salsa plate too. There are yoga classes here a few days a week, but we didn’t take part in that. The location is great. We borrowed a car from a local friend, but you can easily walk to nearby restaurants and shops. A quad rental makes everything accessible if you want to pay the high rental prices. We come to Los Barriles often, so we have a good idea of other accommodations, and this place is one of the better ones. I would stay here again for sure. …
Have had some good times fishing here. Not this past week. We were assigned to the Mahi Mahi., Two very nice and polite young men but not very experienced who decided to take us on a high speed boat ride for one hour and forty five minutes to the fishing area (on a half day trip)!! Probably fished about one hour then back for a full two hour high speed boat ride back over choppy waters (very uncomfortable). Catch of the day = zero.Expensive boat ride...
This is by far the best resort in Los Barriles. Rooms are always very clean and pool bars are great. The staff is always really friendly. If you like fishing this is a great place...they have a fishing office and you can pick your boat and schedule. Local Smokies Grill picks up your fish right at the dock and does all the processing, freezing for you to take home in one of their travel boxes. Have been 3 times now and will be going again soon.
