Marival Emotions specializes in the emotion of disappointment. By the end of our stay, I was convinced that the "resort" catered to locals accustomed to 3rd World amenities. While the staff was friendly, there seemed to be a noticeable attempt to get by with the bare minimum of accommodations. My wife (a bridesmaid) and I stayed 5 days / 4 nights as part of a wedding party, so we were not in a position to change hotels - it would have been rude. A hostess greeted us and proceeded to list the time restrictions for food service locations - because it is complicated and limited - and offer a timeshare seminar on resort membership for a temporary upgrade - No Gracias. Our first surprise was when we walked into a room with twin beds instead of a king as requested. We complained immediately, and they did rectify our situation, but we later found out that they did this same dance with everyone else in our wedding party. I could get easily get past this sort of transgression, but it quickly became a theme. The food was absolutely terrible. So bad, my wife and I questioned our own integrity on food quality. We thought we were snobs until some of the other guests reassured us that the food was in fact comically bad. They made eggs benedict with a hamburger bun instead of a biscuit. Pancakes and waffles were somehow dry. They used some powdered instant cream for the cannoli but seemingly didn’t add enough water. Even the most basic things were done poorly. I can’t get over how bad it was. There were 2 real restaurants on site, an Italian place and a Mexican place. Those 2 restaurants are not bad - dare I say good? - but they are only open at night, and you need a to make reservation during a specific time window, more on that later. Eating at the Mexican restaurant on the last night was the only opportunity we had to eat tacos at the resort, not something you would expect in Mexico. There is a 3rd "restaurant," called "the pergola" that was billed as a Mediterranean-style steakhouse with seafood; but I am not grouping it with the other two locations because the comparison is akin to the white tablecloth service White Castle does on Valentine Day, which is still a disservice to White Castle's quality. They managed to seat us without a reservation after a 30min wait. They probably knew some people would get sick and not show up. A bite of their cooked fish was reminiscent to the risk of gas station sushi. The staff did not seem surprised that we did not eat the food. Everything was dry, seemingly prepared days ago, only to be frozen and reheated on requests; and this 3rd location was one of their best options. My fear truly settled on the second day when I saw the fish I ordered from the night before in the buffet line at 1pm the next day. Same species, same seasoning, same cuts were now all-you-can-eat. Maybe the resort should be commended for not letting food go to waste? I would later recognize the buffet inventory consisted of items to seemingly be sourced from the leftovers of the 3 main food service locations. Veal and noodles from the Italian restaurant, beef and fish from "the pergola", or hotdogs from everywhere. Never have I seen so many creative uses for hotdogs. Mystery-meat hotdogs were everywhere: as breakfast sausage, on pizza, chopped, shredded, ground, or mixed into sauces. It was like some sick "Chopped" obsession where they always had a hotdog-sourced option. More than half of the wedding party became violently sick with some stomach-related bug and our running theory was the buffet salad. Outside the buffet, there was a burger bar called "la Bamba" that seemed to be one of the safer options but also the potential source of the hot dogs, and a pizza place that should be destroyed for their crimes against pizza. I watched "la Bamba" par-cook burgers for me instead of cook-to-order, even though she was preparing fresher patties. Why do that? It was so unnecessary. It's not like anyone was in a hurry, even fast-food has time to cook-to-order burgers. The pizza place looked promising because there were large wood-fired stone ovens, but the person who knew how to make pizza must have died with his secrets. They used some paper-thin style flatbread and sprinkle the cheapest toppings they can possibly muster. I would rather eat the rat pizza Chuck-E-Cheese served than the hotdog covered semi-sauced flatbread this place tried to call a pizza. The only Mexican food readily available at the resort was the chips and queso cheese. The chips are edible but don't taste fresh and the queso was probably some Kraft/Velveeta spin-off. I really started to question how long I could survive off their food options, but eventually made a surprisingly wise decision to eat off-resort. I did not have to walk very far to find a public place, which in hindsight probably should have been a warning about the resort's quality. It was difficult to get liquored up, but not hard to get sick from the amount of sugar in the drinks. We mostly enjoyed the drinks we got, but we never really managed to get drunk. There were no bars open or alcohol service before 11am, the outdoor bars closed at 6pm, and the drinks served were usually very sugary and light on alcohol. We started to suspect the bottles of alcohol were watered down in a cost-cutting effort, but that’s just a guess. At one point, we were told by staff that one of the nicer bottles displayed at the bar was for decoration only. It was also difficult to stay hydrated. The glasses were small, and usually loaded with ice, so if you haven’t been turned off by my review yet, I recommend bringing your own empty water bottle. There wasn’t anything else about “the resort” that made me forget about how bad the food was. You could only book reservations for the nice restaurants between 9-11am and the number of reservations allowed was based on the number of days in the stay. Room service ended at 11pm and there was nowhere you could even get food after midnight. The guests seemed to be primarily Spanish speaking locals and Canadians that were too friendly to complain. I mention this only because there seems to be tons of 5-star reviews on this place, and I have wondered what kind of psychopath willingly tolerates this type of experience. In my view, any nice review on this place is from a paid employee, someone that has not regained their sense of taste post-Covid infection, or someone from a 3rd world country. I will never go back – even if they pay me.

Weather was amazing! Staff was very friendly. 2 bedroom suite was okay but needed updating and paint. Food was okay but not great. Shows were fine. I would recommend this more for families with young kids vs. teen or adults.

It feels like home with each visit. We are greeted by name and feel welcomed. We enjoy sitting in Bar Mirabel in the main lobby watching guests and talking to them as they return from adventures. Judith and Carlos were wonderful and attentive to our needs as well as helping us to improve our Spanish. Josefina in La Bamba was so knowledgeable me and remembered my husband and his order for breakfast every morning! Brayam and Marcus at Capriccio were very friendly and helpful in checking out their new menu. The tomato salad was delicious. We have already made plans for our next visit!

The bright spots were 1 of the special dining restaurants: The Italian one & La Pergola for breakfast as you can order off a green menu. Those meals come hot and fresh. Its also immediate beach access if you want to go into the ocean. Resort overall is below average in every category in every way. In my opinion. Food is not very good. Beds are super uncomfortable. Staff appear very unhappy to be at work & know very little English. Learn some basic words or prepare for a lot of hand gestures and pointing. Some areas seemed understaffed while others were overstaffed. Example: Only 2 people at the pool bar working their butts off (when there's usually 3) and 3 people in the gift shop with 2 people standing around or sitting at the countertop and 1 person making an occasional sale. They also move the staff around instead of keeping them where they are good. Kevin and Luis are the best bartenders for example. Irma is an awesome cook. Oniver is a fantastic server. I like to know where to find "my people" .... To go into every detail, this review would be SO long and everyone would stop reading it. So I tried to keep to the main points. If you like food and sleep - I do not recommend this place.

I’ve been a resort member for over 15 years. I’ve just gotten back from a weeks stay at Emotions . Very disappointed, gone downhill big time since covid, but I expected that a little. Alot of new staff with very little English, and the staff used to be so happy there. Definitely not anymore. Not sure if they’re new owners but this so called 5 star hotel is now about a 3.5 . Star. The restaurants aren’t as good, no fresh guacamole at the Mexican restaurant and they are guarding their pico de gallo like its the national treasure. The pizza bar used to be open all day and all night, now only 5-12 midnight and very little food offered there. It used to be such a great place, now i just see the time shares being pushed down people’s throats and yesterdays salad bar re-runs. They better shape up or people are going to stop paying top dollar for below average food and service ….. Angry owner

Hits on all the stuff that matters the most. Well kept and clean property, great atmosphere, comfy beds and great food. We stayed all-inclusive, we disliked having to waiting and having to sign off on the bills, lots of water time especially with young kids. We were surprised to run into some less than friendly staff too. However, our man, Elian by the pool made up for a few of the poor ones. Elian is a gem and made us smile and everyday. Lastly, don’t be at all turned off about the resort being off the beach. It makes NO difference. The walk to the beach club is stunning and the beach setup is 10/10.

Love, love, love our waitress Dalia Hugo in the Volare Bar. Her English is very good. She makes us feel welcome and remembers us every year we go back. She is very friendly and great at her job. She is an asset yo Marival Emotions. We also love the sunsets at Emotions.

We’ve been to this resort at least 8 times and for the most part, it ticks all of the boxes. We brought our 12 year old this spring break and we were part of a group. It was a busy time of year but I did feel the lines were quick and the staff was incredible. We especially enjoy the service of Dalia at the Bar Marival (in the foyer). The resort is fully operational and the restaurants were outstanding. The only downside was that we definitely got the worst room we’ve ever had at this resort. We were on the second floor right in front of a busy corridor with a water machine that continuously beeped because it was out of water. The last few nights the teenagers roaming around were loud and obnoxious. We only got a few hours sleep because there were also young children screaming at the top of their lungs in the morning. Two double beds is not the way to go for a couple with a 12 year old. We tried to get a suite but they were sold out. I recommend booking early and splurging on a deluxe room. I am not normally one to complain about noise especially because it’s a busy time of year and it’s a family-friendly resort. Noise is to be expected. Perhaps some signage on the stairwells might alert vacationers to their surroundings?! Thanks again Marival Staff for continuing to support vacationers in such a welcoming way! We will be back … hopefully in a suite next time :)

Aubrianna was our beach server and she was the best server on the resort always smiling and in a good mood and happy to see you and serve you with quick service! Make sure you get the correct color bracelets on your family the first day you arrive. We had a bit of a mix up where the guy thought my 14year old was my wife so she had an adult bracelet and somehow I got a kids one the the bar tenders were looking at me very confused as they only give the kids band to adults when they can’t handle their alcohol… got it figured out half way through the trip tho and they are working on an upgrade for the mix up for us.
