When we checked in it was never explained what was to be expected. What our color bands meant, things to do on the resort. Hell we weren't even offered a drink. This is our third time coming to Puerto vallarta and this has been the worse resort. It's very unfortunate but the staff was not friendly at all, very unusual from the many times we've visited
We very much enjoyed our stay at Occidental for our 14th anniversary. The people working were so friendly and wonderful. The service was top notch. Luis Robles and Erick took great care of us each day by the pool, and at the buffet on occasion. Puc was very helpful at the buffet as well, always with a friendly smile and conversation. Ricardo and Jessica made the stay very enjoyable with activities around the clock. Melanie was a very friendly and nice housekeeper. Maintenance staff was great when our door lock battery died. Jesus and Rene at the pool bar made awesome drinks for us. We don’t drink alcohol and they were willing to create whatever virgin concoction we could dream up. Edna was very helpful each day with whatever we needed at the concierge desk. The staff there all works so hard to ensure each guest is happy and having a nice time. The bellman up front was awesome too. He helped us on a few occasions with finding our room, catching taxis, giving us info about the town, etc. These employees work in the insane heat in full uniform, and are happy and upbeat every day. Thank you!!! In addition, our room was comfortable and clean. The hotel is definitely a little dated and fairly small but had pretty much everything we needed or wanted. We did venture into Puerto Vallarta to the malecón and zona romántica. We took a taxi out and rode the bus back. It was pretty easy if you speak enough Spanish to ask around and know what buses to ride. The green ATM buses go to and from Walmart and Sam’s Club and then there are other buses from there to the other parts of town. The food at the resort was good for the most part. Drinks were always good. The five stars given here was definitely for the service over all!…
Resort is small, but has great location. Staff is nice as long as you don't have to deal with reception. The wait to check in is painful if you arrive during rush hour. I felt like i was in the movie zootopia having to wait my turn. They don't have any premium drinks unless you have royal level. I normally stay at the Mayan Palace in Cancun or Bavaro Palace in DR, but this falls way bellow those. Drinks are good, but nothing premium.
English One comes with all the energy and although the attention of someone’s is good, others respond in a very rude way which makes the visit go down each time, we change to the royal part it is good if you want a private pool (for all guests royal) and one more restaurant if not, it is not worth it, the attention is to those who want, in the room we arrived and the fridge bar did not work (they fill it up when they want, not daily), the telephone never worked, if you are used to good I don't suggest food, the only thing that is good is the beach, it’s different to the Barceló grup, it leaves a lot to be desired.…
If there was a swim up bar and food service at the pools I would return. When we first checked in (Royal Level) we were not given the room we had reserved and paid for. After about 1 hour trying to check in, we were given a room for one night until the room we paid for was available the next day. Once we got our room it was amazing view!
Horrible overall stay. Some unfriendly staff and horrible management. He didn’t even care about my issue. I moved to another room but it was smaller. Also the rooms smelled like mildew and the manager said just turn the AC.
My husband and I had a great experience here. The buffet had good options for all three meals. I was not a big fan of the food from Los Olivos, but the staff and drinks were great! The beach was clean. We stayed during the weekday and found that the facility was more calm than during the weekend. The staff serve you drinks during meals. Our room was cleaned daily, which I think they do for every room so if you don't like that make sure to let reception know. The staff spoke English. Good to know that you are required to wear masks in the dining areas. If you forget to bring a mask, the hotel will charge you for a mask. The nightly entertainment was great! There were vendors at the beach, so if you want to buy items or pay to ride the jetski, bring pesos, it will make your life so much easier instead of paying cash with US bills. Lastly, if you come across my review be aware that it was my first time at an all-inclusive resort, I did not take any children with me, I am bilingual, love food and I dont let small inconveniences bother me. I understand that the staff are very hardworking and do their best to help everyone at a timely manner! Guests, please be patient with them. Thank you to everyone at Occidental!! Muchas gracias a todos!…
Disclaimer: I broke my ankle 2 weeks before this trip..... The good the bad and the ugly - just kidding no ugly! We just finished a 7 day stay - 2 rooms royal level no balcony. We had a wonderful stay - the number one thing is the staff who is amazing and so kind. Tips: Room selection - ours was right off the elevator - great call since I broke my ankle, horrible call for noise level at night. The lounge noise radiates up and is loud until anywhere between 12-2 am. I used a white noise video to drown it out on my phone and that worked pretty well. Ask for a room away from the lobby. Royal level restaurant - very nice. Breakfast and lunch did not need reservations. It gets crowded after 9am. Food was ok. Service good. Specialty restaurants: all were good but Japanese was our favorite. Italian is absolutely not handicap accessible or if it was the staff did not know how to show me. All others were. The line for the non Royal folks was very long each day. We made all our reservations at the Royal check in at 1 time - super easy. Spa: so good and cheap 🙂. Handicap note: you have to go through the first club lounge and out the side to access but there is still one step. Staff: went out of their way several times. Canario at the Royal pool brought me ice multiple times for my ankle. Royal restaurants got my husband chocolate ice cream even though not on the menu. guill…. At Royal concierge made a reservations at a delicious restaurant riviera grill for us! Buffet: I never ate there. For lunch we did the Mexican buffet and I thought it was good. They bring chips and guacamole to the table for you. Pools - 100% people save chairs so get there early if you want a good spot. Water is warm but so is the weather 🙂 Main pool had lots of activities. Lots of evening entertainment. Excursions - we used a private taxi to go to Sayulita for the day. Great day except it is not handicap accessible - I sweated like a crazy person and the sidewalks are awful. Cute little town though. We did a private catamaran with float boat adventure and it was fabulous! All in all I would definitely stay here again! Great week! Ps - handicap ramps are all over but some are pretty steep…
We are pretty seasoned travelers. And while we enjoyed the service here despite the outdated rooms, they gave us an unforgivable on our 7th night here. The main buffet was slated for seafood which our 3 children were not a fan of. So we spent all day trying to get reservations at one of the other restaurants. Despite the two dozen+ calls to different reservation lines, we couldn’t get ahold of anyone. So at dinner time we approached one of the reservation restaurants asking if they could accommodate us. Since 47 of their 50 tables were unoccupied, I was hopeful. They wouldn’t budge. So my 3 children didn’t have dinner the final night. We will never return to a location who’s common sense is so ignorant they failed to think of the basic’s of aspects of feeding guests at an all inclusive.…
Had so much fun. This was our first time here and will definitely consider coming back. The bar tenders did an amazing job. Specifically Rene at the lounge bar and Jesus at the pool bar. Overall great service.
