If you are not a big eater this may not be the ideal place for you to eat. Their portions are huge! Good wholesome food. If the weather is nice, sit out in the garden by the river. Lovely and very peaceful. Great stop after a day of walking. Friendly service.

We stopped here for lunch after a visit to my wife's mother's grave and a walk over the fells. The welcome was a lot warmer than the weather and the food better than the average "pub grub". It is an excellent stopping-of place to have a pleasant meal.

After having picked our daughter up from a very strenuous Duke of Edinburgh, we called in for a satisfying meal, having survived on pasta, rice and cuppa soups she was ready for the very generous portion of chicken pie, veg and chips covered in gravy, just what was needed. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we would certainly be... More

We went in for an early dinner and met the landlord who offered us the choice of eating in the restaurant, bar or beer garden. We chose to eat in the bar as we were on a tight schedule. I had a delicious -clearly home cooked - chilli and my husband had a lovely, thick gammon steak. There were more... More

Very welcoming including the locals. Food was excellent , plenty of it too. Landlord was very friendly and charming. Would consider staying another time. The garden looked wonderful even though it was raining.

Popped in for something to eat after a day in St. Bees. The host was very friendly and we decided to eat outside. The beer garden was amazing with a river running through. It was fairly busy but very peaceful. Service was quick and the food was excellent. Will definitely visit again.

We went there for Sunday lunch because it was near to where we live. We asked for a starter, a main course with a slab pie and a pudding and they told us not to order the pudding until we had eaten our main course. They were right, the slab pie, mash and vegetables that came on a large plate... More
