Spent three nights here for work. Due to delays on M6 I arrived late, but phoned ahead and Will had ensured that dinner was available and provided a much needed welcome. The room was large, comfortable and allowed me to work effectively. The breakfasts and dinners were good. Will also worked reception and in the bar and was most helpful.

As a party of three on a business trip our first and highly positive impression was the hotel sending someone to collect us from the local rail station after we failed to secure a taxi. We are very grateful for that hospitality. The hotel is a traditional Cumbrian Country House with extensive dining and bar facilities giving a sense of space and healthy separation from fellow guests. The evening meal menu is traditional Cumbrian and delicious. The bedrooms are spacious and furnished to a modern standard with a quiet and relaxing outlook, the hotel has a large garden space with trees and hedges giving privacy. Breakfast was superb, the self-service buffet is relatively small but adequate however the cooked breakfasts are excellent and definitely worth getting up for. The staff are friendly, welcoming and accommodating, very typical of the North West. It would have been great to have stayed longer.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this beautiful olde world hotel. From arrival to departure, the staff were warm, welcoming and more than happy to help with any queries. I was instantly made to feel at home. The hotel is a beautiful old building in a peaceful location that oozes charm but doesn't compromise in any way on comfort. My room was enormous, attractively presented and well equipped with tea/coffee making facilities (inc cafetiere), hair dryer, iron and ironing board. The super king size bed was a real bonus and very comfortable. Complimentary WiFi is provided and was superfast. I was really tired on arrival and opted to take room service for my evening meal and only really wanted something light so ordered from the bar menu rather than the restaurant - however, when the food arrived, there was still plenty of it and the quality was great. The sticky toffee pudding is particularly recommended! Thoroughly enjoyable stay and I will definitely be returning when I'm next in the area.

Banged my head several times on low doorways. Food was ok but no haddock availability. Had wild boar sausage and mash. Not bad. Breakfast was fine. Bed wasn’t up to Premier Inn (Hypnos) so didn’t sleep very well. Lights in bathroom took ages to come on?? What with the dimming? Generally nice and clean. Outside perimeter poorly lit. Too dark for me. TV in room very small. Would be nice to see decaf tea bags in room.

Here on business to work at Sellafield so ideal for that. There's a new chef in place whose excellent & Will the Operations Manager is just great and very helpful. Things to do in the hotel are limited but as good a place as any to use as a base to explore the less populated West Cumbria especially as I read elsewhere it's dog-friendly.
