Hotel Budir is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful countryside hotels in Iceland, just a short drive from Iceland's capital city, Reykjavik. The hotel sits in a lava field on the westernmost tip of the Snaefellsnes peninsula, in the western region of Iceland. Due to the hotel's location, guests have an impressive view of the breathtaking Snaefellsjokull glacier and the Budir-estuary which meanders into the vast Faxafloi-Bay where a number of seals reside.Over the winter time its cozy sitting by the fireplace having hot chocolate and enjoying the amazing northern lights Aurora borealis just outside the hotel. Hotel Budir's restaurant, arguably one of the most romantic restaurants in Iceland, has been referred to as "The Mecca of Icelandic cooking", due to its unique and delightful cuisine. The restaurant's menu is seasonal and takes advantage of fresh local produce like seafood and fish from neighbouring villages such as Stykkisholmur, Olafsvik and Borgarnes. The hotel also organises and hosts a number of weddings, all of which are unique and tailor made with the wedding couple or their representatives. Many of the weddings ceremonies are conducted in the little church close to Hotel Budir or in the hotel reception; it is even possible to get married on the golden sand beach close to the hotel. In addition, the hotel also offers facilities for meetings and small-to-medium sized conferences thus making it ideal for business-meetings or conferences with colleagues.Hotel Budir has it all, a world-class service, fine food and drink and luxurious rooms, making it ideal for get-togethers with friends and family, or a romantic weekend with a loved one - all of which can be enjoyed in an indescribably beautiful environment.

We sought out this hotel, having been told that it was one of the best in Iceland. We were looking forward to hunkering down in our room on a blustery night. Start with the bar: Great cocktails. We thoroughly enjoyed the vibe and the taste. Next, the restaurant: We had a fabulous tasting menu with wine pairings. Our server was delightful and we enjoyed ourselves. Now, our room: The window was leaking. We weren’t too fussed—we told the staff and they stuffed a towel into it. It was stifling hot. When we couldn’t find a thermostat, we asked at the front and were given a shrug. It wasn’t until the morning (after a night of sweltering) that we figured out for ourselves that there was a radiator on the wall with its own control. But what really cost this place is the bathroom. The grout and caulking were...grimy and mouldy (yuck). The arrangement of the shower was just plain silly—halfway in the middle of the tub, on a pole that was, at best 5 ft up, with the shower head inadequately fixed so that no only did we have to duck to get ours heads under the water, but when not ducking, you got hit in the head by the shower head.

Incredible hotel on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon, in time to see a wedding finish up in the beautiful church. There’s a fireplace in the entryway, with plenty of chairs to relax in: the bar is small, and cozy, with another small sitting room with plenty of views of the cove and mountains. The restaurant was very good. Lots of choices and great service.

The hotel is lovely, and the restaurant of the highest quality. Service was impeccable. The location is remote, but a great place to stay if you are visiting the western peninsula. Be prepared for wild and windy weather!

We stayed for two nights around our wedding and we couldn't be more satisfied. The communication with the reception was quick and they were great to answer our questions, the room was clean and comfortable (even though we only managed to book the smallest loft room, the rooms sell extremely fast!), with a beautiful view of the Búðir church. They will even wake you up if there's Northern Lights. The hotel itself is a really beautiful and smart space, with good living room-y common areas and a nice terrace to take in the view. Would especially recommend the food - both breakfast and especially the a la carte dinner was wonderful. A creative menu (esp. the desserts!) you might not expect in the middle of the countryside. Pricey, but ultimately worth the money, especially in comparison with the overall hotel prices in Iceland. Would definitely stay again.
