Overall the experience was below average. In my personal experience staff was not up to the standard of other all-inclusive resorts. The hotel is well kept but some facilities look older. The reception staff has no resolution skills as we faced multiple issues with room keys and a power outage (and water) at the middle of the day.
This is one of the best experiences in Riviera Maya. There is a lot to do without ever leaving the resort and the staff takes care of all of your tours and information. The people at the booths in the market are a bit pushy since they aren't getting any business, be prepared to stand your ground - but the resort gift shop has everything you need at a fair price. I also like the guys selling jewelry on the beach. I will be back!
The resort is beautiful, clean and friendly but the food needs to be stepped up. All the restaurants are bufft style and the restaurants that you have to reserve you can't have more than one appetizers and the potions are small.
Room cleaning was the worst! at the end of my staying I had my throat closed and now I am doing a serious allergic treatment due to the old, Acarus room. Too much dust Also, except the night restaurants, the food has no quality and it is not an easy stay
Never go there Never ever are we going there. Don’t know who gave them 4.5 stars they are not worth a star. We were booked at Premium Junior Ocean View from February 2022 for a marriage end November. Mid September after full payment was made the planner got notified our previously booked room has been allocated to someone else or we can get 2 rooms, which we did not like as my spouse is disabled and both my daughter and myself have to help in from and to wheelchair. We reached the hotel at around 1 pm in private transfer and were taken to the Premium lounge and were asked to wait and refresh. There was one person and was taking a hell of a time doing check in for another couple. While in washroom my we noticed my spouse had blood in his pee, and requested if we could be checked in fast so that we can clean him up properly in the room. No second person came and once we got checked in after another 1 hour we were told we can’t go to the room till 3. Have been to quiet a few resorts all being Premium or higher level, and never had to wait till 3, and even after the fact that my spouse needs attention urgently. We had to go to the buffet not realizing that that’s the only place you can get food all are either booked or not open. Food was horrible and same repetitive whether it’s breakfast lunch or dinner. No one speaks or understands English. Front desk and Premium lounge staff are ignorant and Rude. You have to wait 1/2 hour to get connected to room service and invariably something would be missing and never apologized or called in before hand to say sorry we have run out of one of your orders. Next we got a ground level room, don’t have any clue as to what was Junior Premium Level Ocean view, cause you could hardly see the ocean between chairs, pools and children play area if you stood outside forget about being from inside the room. The washroom had flies sitting as we entered and the in the next seven days we killed at 10 Black medium sized Spiders in the washroom and several time had to call housekeeping to disinfect bedroom with ants roaming on tables and beds and other flies. In seven days we could open the garden door 2 times at the most scared as to what next might come in. We have always chosen ocean view or ocean front rooms do that my spouse can sit in the balcony and enjoy the view, but definitely not this time. He was very disappointed as it was a total let down for a person who is house bound throughout the year. Have never compromised on price and have always wanted the best for his mental relief. Television had hardly 6 channels with English and the stupidity being the Spanish channels have subtitle in Spanish. If not for the marriage we would have died from being bored and starved as food and drink was horrible. You ask for a golf cart to go to another building for the wedding they said no and directed us always to the bus. They should take some lessons from the Hyatt group for sure, where they extend help to all regardless of being handicapped or not. The worst was the samosas and Channa masala that had been specially ordered for the dinner two days prior to wedding was refried and recoiled and served in the buffet lunch next day!!! Positive fact was grounds were clean and smooth for pushing a wheelchair…
The Barcelo Maya Colonial is an amazing resort with access to 4 other neighboring resorts (also Barcelo properties) which adds more restaurants, amenities and beach space. The properties are clean and very well kept up. Staff all around taking care of each aspect of it. We also felt very safe while there. An extra that we enjoyed was the Mexican open-air market right on the property... local shopping and music. The vendors were very kind and polite, not pushy at all. While all the staff were so helpful and accommodating I would like to highlight one individual... Luis Hernandez. Luis works in the Premium Level Lounge. Always willing to help, in fact he goes above and beyond to make your request happen. Makes you feel like you are the most important person at the resort. Upbeat and always has a smile for you. Thinking he had been there a while, I was shocked when he let us know he had only been working there for 3 months. Very impressed with this young man! I cannot express how excellent his service was in the Premium Level Lounge! Thanks Luis for making our trip a great one! Will definitely visit Barcelo Maya Colonial again and recommend to friends.…
It was one of the best all inclusive resorts we’ve been to. It’s very family oriented and we didn’t have to leave because there was so much to do. All the staff was wonderful! Whatever we needed, we got service. There was a lot of entertainment for the whole family including a disco, bowling alley, mini golf and they even have a mall as well as outdoor vendors.
This was our 22nd trip to the Barcelo Maya Resort, and it was fabulous as always! We have stayed at all 6 hotels over the years but like the Colonial the best. When we arrive we are always greeted by Joel, the Bell Captain, who we've known for years and he is a gem. The waiters in the buffet are all great, but Jose Garcia is amazing. We only come down twice a year, but as soon as we walk in, he greets us with a big smile, and remembers that I want English Breakfast hot tea. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and well taken care of. The workers work so hard to keep it that way. Because of my mobility problems we are able to rent an electric scooter from Playa mobile and it is always there waiting for me. I can't imagine going anywhere else! We have already booked our next trip for April and can't wait!…
Buffets Food average and repetitive, Drinks options terrible, service was either really good or really bad. Beach was mostly coral, forget about nice walk on sandy beech. Very Clean Grounds, great pools, shows and Kids water Park. we will Definitely Not return.
This resort is huge! There are so many choices on where to stay, eat, lounge, and have a great time. We decided to stay at the Colonial because the beach line at that section of the resort is beautiful. I definitely recommend it! If you want a fancier room stay at the Palace or the new addition (forgot name), but make sure to go to the Colonial section of the resort for the beach! It is amazing!
