The rooms need major updating. Even after housekeeping are done cleaning the room, the floors are still dirty...

...The lady checking us in set the absolutely poorest service we’ve ever received on any trip. They messed up the rooms and said there was nothing they could do so we rolled with it... ...Our kids had their own room and had issues with their electricity and had a sudden large flood in their room that poured out of their ceiling. Luckily they were able to get a new room but it was at the Palace, a 20 min walk from the Beach...

The vents in the bathroom and where the toilet is did not work, so every time someone would use the bathroom the whole room would smell... The room was clean, and the housekeeper was nice... Due to the room issues, lack of follow up, and the premium check out staff I wouldn’t return although we have stayed here two times prior... Overall I am very disappointed that I was not able to enjoy my junior suite that I paid for $1200 extra...

Check in was very slow, our room had one bed for three guests (many guests had the issue of not enough beds). We waited two days until a new room was available... The resort is gorgeous, beautiful beach, however our room was very shabby and dated...

Visited with family for New Years and despite numerous requests for adjoining rooms, months in advance even, we were still placed opposite one another, and totally dismissed when we asked again at reception... Rooms need serious updating, bathrooms in particular... Found it very pricy for what is at best a 3 star hotel...

We had to pay $1,700 for an upgrade of a room and it still had wet bedsheets, floor dampness, ceiling water leaks in the balcony coming from the above floor jacuzzi... Additionally, you hear what the people in the next room are talking about...

(Our 2 teenagers had their own room next to us) The reason I couldn’t give it five stars was because upon arrival, we originally were to be at the Maya Caribe... Our rooms were right next to each other (thank you!!)... Our rooms overlooked the Maya Beach pool, the Gulf beyond that... The rooms and everywhere was super clean... You can choose how often housekeeping would service the room... The gift shops and indoor mall took credit cards or you could charge to the room... FYI, if you stay in a premium level room, you are not assigned a specific concierge...

The prices in the gift shop are astronomical for snacks ($15 USD for a bag of Fritos scoops)... Pricing at the dive shop beside the Dolphinarium is almost double for the same items at the small shop by the free waterpark at the Colonial... They charge $20 USD per person, including adults that just want to watch, with no bar inside...

The quality of our stay at the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort has declined significantly following COVID... Certainly not worth the cost you pay for this stay...

...The premium alcohol menu is basic. I couldn’t commit to a mix drink so I kept it safe with club and “premium” vodka... We purchased premium package and our room wasn’t ready... The young girl at the premium desk offered me a room on first floor without ocean view to compensate... We walked to buffet we were told it was closed the sign clearly said 330... The staff made no attempt to say hey guys there are other buffets that are open by the beach... Our premium check in was nice in a private air conditioned room with a bar and access to snacks which is nice coming from an hour long airport ride but the girls are not very informative... I feel that if you pay an extra $$$ per person they should really layout a map and information about the place...

We are now at the hotel with a family and I’d say it’s quite disappointing. On our own we walked to Cenote Azul, approx $9 per person though the walk there was sketchy along a highway where the cars were zooming by...

This is our third time at Barcelo Maya Beach (the previous two were in December 2017 and Dec 2019), but this round, the hotel is disappointing... This is our third Christmas at this resort, but this year there were no Santa, no elfs on 24th or 25th, so basically, the main reminder of Christmas was the music from the speakers (during previous years there was Santa for kids to make pictures, to do the wishes, in the morning elfs with shots were helping people on the beach, etc)... It is sad to see that such a nice hotel is getting more expensive but got a cheaper feeling...

...Don't buy trips from the companies in the hotel I feel ripped off by the one we booked. The market stalls just think of a number when you ask for a price, make sure you negotiate a fair price... If they say 40 dollars you should get it for 20 dollars...

Site is beautiful and the resort is always clean... The beach is well maintained despite the seaweed...

The first time I gathered my towels and went to the lady cleaning the room next to me and asked her nicely to swap out the towels and she said she was not assigned to me and to walk 10 rooms down and ask someone else when she was standing right next to the cleaning cart...

Massive hotel as you get the use of the Colonial, Tropical and Caribe hotels, the beach is cleaned throughout the day. The pools could be cleaned better, as we noticed the same debris round the pool all holiday...

We had a room in the Uxmall building, the rooms are dated, but it was VERY clean and well maintained, everything worked perfectly and the bed was very comfortable...

I reminded the manager that I had called for washcloths daily and that the normal practice in hotels/resorts is to replenish what you take... She suggested I use the hand towel instead... When I asked why, she said I could buy a washcloth... I explained that it was the resorts responsibility to supply washcloths and towels, and that they shouldn't book people if they don't have enough supplies to accommodate guest...

...Had to track down cleaning ladies to request towels, toilet paper, shampoo etc trash was overflowing...

...The people were great my only main complaint would be the wait at the front desk most times as a result of 2-3 people working, and the wait at the bars where again it was 2-3 people working and it was rarely fast...

...We upgraded to premium level and were directed to the premium lounge where we waited almost 30 minutes to check in with only 2 people in front of us. The room was clean, and the housekeeper was nice... Premium check in lady was very nice and informative... Premium check out lady did not ask how our stay was and was rather cold and uninterested... Amenity requests for minibar, and tv being broken at one point went unanswered until the next day and a few calls later... The restaurant staff for a la carte restaurants was always nice and attentive... The buffet staff was also great, but sometimes they were too busy to pour drinks, but not a big deal... The grounds are well maintained, and most of the staff is great... Due to the room issues, lack of follow up, and the premium check out staff I wouldn’t return although we have stayed here two times prior... About two days prior to our departure I found a letter in the door that they would like to move us, we were there from 2.15-2.22 give me a break at that point we were unpacked and didn’t want to waste time moving as opposed to if it happened when I requested which was the morning after arrival...

Service was very bad, pretty much none of resort staff speaks english even though at least 80% of guests were americans...

The service was excellent in MeXico Lindo restaurant in Barceló Maya. Beach especially , Abraham Cupul and Roberto they both were attentive and very helpful at the time we order explained with detail the dishes we were ordering... The waiter kept coming back to see if we had everything we needed...

...I can tell you though that not once was there a problem with anyone working there. From reception to bartenders, servers, cooks, entertainers, people working maintenance and everyone else, they were all exceptional and very hardworking...

...We tried lots of acts to suppress the smell, and service came down twice and tried ti fix it but could not. They moved us to the same room a floor up and that was much better...

...This was our second visit to this resort, but this time at the premium level... -broken shampoo dispenser, no replacement, laundry service had to be called several times, literally cold coffee was served, ac not working or was freezing cold, wait staff at the pool took forever to serve, or didn't even bring the order ..... ...Most of the staff are great but it is well understaffed for a 5 star resort. The management seem to be very lazy especially the bar manager, constantly standing around while there is large queues, a good manager would help his team by serving people... We go to Barcelo quite often and are always very pleased with the resort... The staff at Barcelo is really what put it above other resorts... Irene, a waitress and bartender at the pool bar is very friendly... She always makes sure everyone has a drink, and frequently checks up on us... Moises H. Who was a chef at the pizza/pasta part of the buffet was also very friendly and helpful... We enjoyed getting pasta made by him a few nights at the buffet... Lastly, Abraham, the server at the Mexican restaurant was just another fantastic server during our trip... Thank you to these staff members for making our trip memorable!...

The hotel has good and clean facilities and provides 4 a la carte dinners for each week of staying... Josué Lopez and Gustavo Osório were always very helpful and gave us all the suggestions for having a good Mexican food experience...

Food was really good, service was quick and efficient. The drinks were exceptional and our server recommended we share some plates rather than what we ordered and we were happy with his recommendations for sure... We spent 9 days enjoying this beautiful resort. The service was excellent starting with the bus service to the hotel and back, the checkin service, food servers and the cleaning staff... If you are active, this resort will keep you busy, VG gyms and outside courts to play pickle ball, tennis etc... The sea turtles at the end of the beach were highlights for us…you can swim with them, early in the am...

...We arrived on 1/9/23, and we had a premium room right in front of the pool... After being out of the room all day on 1/10/23, we returned and still didn't have wash cloth... Upon getting in the room, no washcloths... This time when I called the front desk, I was told they didn't have any... I asked how a resort of that size (there are 5 Barcelo hotels side by side) could not have washcloths she didn't have an answer... I reminded the manager that I had called for washcloths daily and that the normal practice in hotels/resorts is to replenish what you take... She then suggested I go to the gift shop... When I asked why, she said I could buy a washcloth... I explained that it was the resorts responsibility to supply washcloths and towels, and that they shouldn't book people if they don't have enough supplies to accommodate guest... Breakfast was the only good meal because the cook made your eggs/omelets to order...

I would highly recommend this place and hope to go back... The staff were great, the grounds are beautiful, food at the buffets was top notch, and the restaurants were excellent... We liked the pools, especially that there are so many of them and some are quiet, some are busy or loud/music/fun...

...The buffet was consistent and good quality. We enjoyed having all the amenities of a very large resort but you could just stay in the Maya Beach area if you did not want to do a lot of walking...

the buffet and the del lindo and el fuente restuarants always had gluten free options for me to eat that was part of the regular menu. was great to select things without having to ask for special plates very often... the drinks were great and mexican night at the buffet was an absolute delight--make a banana split sunday that night since you cant have any of the other desserts... Once the staff know there is a gf guest they install a little plastic container to hold some treats and bread for you by the drinks station...

...Barcelo Maya Beach hotel is in a great location in Puerto Aventuras and the beach and pool areas are fantastic. One thing I really liked was that there was never a problem finding loungers or shade on the beach which has been a problem at many other resorts... There are lots of activities in the area including several cenotes right across the highway...

Amazing resort that far exceeds any expectations... There is access to unlimited types of activities and entertainment on location...

...Barcelo staff was welcoming, the beach really nice, and a good variety of activities is offered. The resort is large and part of the larger Barcelo complex but isn’t overwhelming and using the double decker bus was convenient... Even though peak season, it didn’t feel like the resort was super busy and restaurants and lines were manageable...

...My teenage grandson enjoyed playing basketball on the shadedcourt near the beach in front of the Maya Beach section... Also, it is nice to have a swimmingpool with swimming lanes, not just free form pools...

...We booked through BA who apparently are allocated to the Caribe (I joined the uncensored group on Facebook lots of info) you can use all the facilities at three other hotels the Beach, Colonial & Tropical, the Palace & Riveria (adults only) were not included... Lots of walking or there's a bus to take you around if need be... The beach is beautiful as are all the pools plenty of sunbeds and shady areas if required, some pools have a swim up bar... We had 7 a la carte restaurant bookings included which were fantastic (book on arrival) if we had to pick a favourite would be the Tokyo in the Mall... The buffet restaurants were all great too, there are 2 theatres which have shows on every night, all the staff are wonderful so hardworking & lovely hot sunshine everyday couldn't recommend this place highly enough!...

...This should be a 5star resort... from the resort itself, the beach and the people working there, the food and the entertainment, everything is TOP CLASS... Great for everyone, adults and kids... From reception to bartenders, servers, cooks, entertainers, people working maintenance and everyone else, they were all exceptional and very hardworking...

The resort is massive and is great with all the amenities for kids and adults. Each section of the resort (Palace, Tropical, Caribe) has a mini water park for free access, each section also has own buffet and other restaurants; however the Palace Buffet (Hacienda/Mirador) are the best by far!... The palace buffet had more space, better selection and less crowds... Each resort section had own Barcy Club (kids club) and Palace's Barcy Club Annie was the best !... Some rocky spots but otherwise no complaints (fish swimming around, good snorkeling opportunities, and lot of shade offered by beach palm trees..... It's honestly some of the nicest beaches I've seen, comes close to Hawaii...

...The Barcelo Beach rooms need a serious upgrade and update and the service at the different bars may be average depending on how much you tip...

...This was our second visit to this resort, but this time at the premium level... -broken shampoo dispenser, no replacement, laundry service had to be called several times, literally cold coffee was served, ac not working or was freezing cold, wait staff at the pool took forever to serve, or didn't even bring the order ...

...My husband and I spent the last 2 weeks in October here,it was fantastic,very clean the maids came in every day filled up the minibar,left clean towels. The pools are gorgeous no lack of sunloungers and the best bit no reserving or running for them.Food was varied and lots of choices,the restaurants are brill,you have to book when you first arrive but the Japanese ones were the best... Entertainment was good and we enjoyed being able to use all the bars and buffet restaurants... The beach is beautiful and again plenty of sunloungers,across the main road outside is a fantastic cenote well in fact 3 cenotes costs very little and gorgeous to swim there and look around,Do be careful of the road its very busy... All in all I would definitely go back to Riviera Maya and stay at the Barcelo...
