Catalonia Riviera Maya offers a mixed experience, according to guest feedback. Service quality varies, with reports of both attentive staff and disappointing encounters. While the atmosphere is lively with modern touches, opinions on the rooms are split, some finding them clean and well-kept, others outdated with noise issues.
The hotel's picturesque location is a plus, though some desire more cultural offerings. Amenities generally receive praise, yet some guests feel the value doesn't match the cost, especially when faced with reservation issues and pervasive noise disrupting the peace.

Second time we stayed at a Catalonia hotel and we really enjoyed it. Super spacious, clean, comfortable room with a balcony to relax. The staff is super pleasant and helpful, at all times you see people taking care of the plants, cleaning the areas to ensure maximum excellence for the customer. Some important points: the beach is very private and small with a lot of rocks in some areas which can be slippery to enter. The sea is super calm and clean so you can see the fish well and is perfect for those who like snorkeling, kayaking and standup. - About the restaurants: - Bloved is spectacular and exclusive to privilege / exclusive. The menu is very good and the dishes are of very high quality. - Tuscany (Italian) has incredible views of the beach and that's it. Reasonable service and food without seasoning and taste. - Grill: good, pleasant service and tasty food. - Brisa / Mercado: both grill for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We prefer the market that is less crowded and has air conditioning. However, the menu is the same in both. It works well when you need to eat quickly and with a lot of variety.
Points we didn't like: - we stayed in a privileged room that gives some exclusive access. Initially the room said adults only (but there were several children which sometimes caused us to wake up at night or early with screaming and crying. In the other hotel we stayed in, the adults only area only had adults and that didn't happen. - In addition, the privileged room gives access to a beach and pool area, but this is sometimes not respected by other guests and the hotel does nothing about it (you see people with other colors of bracelets sitting in the area that should be exclusive including JBL speaker playing its own sound) - The privilege pool area is impossible to stay in if you want to relax because the speaker is super close and they are shouting almost all day with the pool activities next door. - The sound volume of activities in the pool is very loud and bothers even those who are in the seaside area looking to rest and read a book. They should reduce the volume and consider changing the location of the speaker because it is located on the seafront / privileged / exclusive area

Absolutely incredible stay at Catalonia Maya! Going through a difficult time and wanted a property that was going to offer space to retreat but also space for my 16 year son to be a teenager and have fun. He lived on the volleyball court day and night. The resort itself is not too large which was ideal for us as we've been to some of the larger properties and wanted something more intimate. Don't get me wrong there is plenty to do and see at this property but not overwhelming like some of the other resorts. If you're looking for a quieter beach with lagoon like water for floating and snorkeling, this is the place. They've created a reef around the property to help keep out seaweed and its an absolute success, we saw no seaweed during our stay not even after the hurricane which we experienced first hand. The beds are incredibly comfortable, the most comfortable out of all the properties we've stayed at (Barcelona Palace, Princess, Iberostar, etc). The bath towels are oversized and plush, including the wash cloths and beach towels which is not something we always see at other properties. The bars are well stocked with name brand booze (Skyy, Smirnoff vodka and Jose Cuervo to name a few) The food over all is not the best we've had in comparison to other properties but everything else was a 10! You can't go wrong with their plentiful salad bars and pasta station in a pinch. The crepes at the poolside creperie are the BEST I've had and quickly became a daily habit. I will say this resort has the BEST coffee (bold and hot) of any of the other resorts which was a welcomed surprise. If you go Privelidged than you have access to the Hibachi restaurant which was good and Bloved which has delicious expresso martinis! The Mexican restaurant is also wonderful. The mole sauce was perfection. The employees always greeted you with a smile and hola. This resort accomplished everything I was seeking in a vacation and more. We had a Privelidged suite with private tub and large sitting area which was perfect for us and highly recommended for the minimal upcharge. We were there during the hurricane Beryl which management handled beautifully. We felt so safe and they restored activities within 24 hours. I can not say enough about how wonderful this property is. Thank you for helping us make special memories. 💕💕🙏🙏

We had a great time with the privileged pass wich gives access to another pool, a great room, another beach, an included hydrotherapy session at the resort's spa and exclusive restaurants. The resort was very clean, the staff was very friendly and entertaining.
The room was also very clean, cleaned everyday with a discreet service. Everything felt safe, if we forgot belongings of value in the room and/or left the safe open, the room would not be cleaned, and the staff would come back after we stored them accordingly. Towels and plenty of bottled water would still be served everyday in the room for free.
The restaurants were great. We had no trouble with the quality of the food which exceeded our expectations. We had no worries about the freshness of certain ingredient. The restaurant reservation was a bit hard to do in the beginning, but we ended up trying everything we wanted. Pro tip : when you arrive, make sure you get someone in the staff to show you how to book so you'll be able to do it the next morning at (precisely) 8 o'clock without any issues. It didn't work on our computer, but worked fine on our phone (with lots and lots of page refreshing).
The pool area was great and clean with plenty of places to sit. It's a bit more crowded during the weekend but we had no trouble finding a place (no need to wake up at 6AM to book a few chairs). However, if you are looking for a great beach, this is probably not the best resort since the beach is rocky and considerably small. It's a good place for snorkeling though! The pool area makes up for it.
The animation on the resort was fantastic (special mention to Jared). Plenty of activities offered during the day around the main pool. The nights are also animated and fun.
There are a lot of packages offered by the hotel and by locals on the beach (for a cheaper price) to plan activities outside the resort. We personally booked with a local and ended up having a wonderful and safe experience doing catamaran to isla mujeres. The only thing would be to check how far from the resort the activity is and consider that you often have to stop at other resorts to pick up some other people, so to total time might be a little longer.
Hope this was helpful, enjoy your stay!!

Thank you so much for sharing your detailed and thoughtful review! We're delighted to hear that you had a great experience during your stay. It's fantastic that the Privileged Pass enhanced your time with access to exclusive areas, a wonderful room, and the spa's hydrotherapy session. Your tips on booking restaurant reservations are incredibly helpful, and we're happy to know you enjoyed the food quality and variety. We're also thrilled to hear that the pool area and animation activities, especially with Jared, contributed to your positive experience. While the beach may not have been ideal for your preferences, it's great that the pool and snorkeling opportunities made up for it. Thank you for sharing your experience with booking local excursions as well—it's always wonderful to have a safe and memorable adventure outside the resort. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back for another enjoyable stay in the future! 😊

Checking in was easy. But be aware there is an environmental service charge per person per day, and they only accept pesos or cc.
We were told by others that the no staff wanted to work the holidays and the ones that were made to do so were all in a bad mood and rude. It was few and far between to find someone who wanted to help or wasn’t rude. New Years Eve dinner was in the around the pool but we weren’t made aware that you have to buy a bottle of champagne ($75-$300) to attend that dinner. We couldn’t find anywhere that had an entertainment schedule so who knows what was going on and when. Also not aware of the perks we could take advantage of at the spa being a privileged guest. We tipped often and generously but that declined as we stayed longer and realized no staff really cared to help or about service.
The resort in itself is nice. The groundskeepers are constantly out maintaining the gardens. The ‘beach’ isn’t great but it wasn’t a huge issue for us and we usually enjoy walking miles along the sand.
Our room was redone and was clean. Not much closet space at all. No shelving in the bathroom or shower. However my son was in a double bedroom that was a little less updated (broken sinks. One wouldn’t drain the other wouldn’t spray, lights didn’t work) but he had a shelf in the bathroom and shower.
No hot tubs.
Beloved was okay and we never had a problem getting in, but the menu is small.
Buffet food was okay. However it was the exact same food every single day. No change up whatsoever. They also have a hard time keeping it stocked.
You cannot get a drink before 11am. Or after 11pm unless you go to the disco. No pool staff bringing drinks.
From talking with others it seems nobody had an easy time booking a reservation for any a la carte restaurant, if they could even get one. Getting a reservation is next to impossible. Someone at the pool said it was easier to get Taylor Swift tickets. Everyone we spoke with had issue and a majority couldn’t get in at all. We couldn’t get in. On our ninth day we were told to go to customer service. They couldn’t do anything for us that night but would put in a request for the following day (our last night). We were told that we’d get a confirmation letter under our door. 10:30 the next morning and no letter, so I went to customer service again and was told we had a reservation and 7:30 at the teppanyaki. We show up at 7:20pm and were rudely told our reservation was at 6:30pm, we missed it and they had no other availability. So back to customer service. She confirms that they had our reservation for 7:30. Not sure what happened but it got mixed up and we were SOL. We could go to the Mexican restaurant instead. I was so mad we just went back into town. No apologies. They just don’t care. We ate a majority of our dinners in town. Kinda defeats the purpose of an all inclusive.
All in all every single person we talked to was upset with the resort and wouldn’t come back. Feeding the agoutis was the highlight of the hotel but not worth coming back for. I’m actually not sure if they pay for their reviews or if we just had a terrible 2 week experience along with the rest of the vacationers there at that time.

Thank you for sharing your detailed review. We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience fell short of expectations. It’s concerning to read about the issues you encountered with service, reservations, and overall guest satisfaction. Your feedback regarding staff mood, the difficulty with booking reservations, and the lack of communication about special events, like the New Year’s Eve dinner, is valuable and will certainly be shared with the appropriate teams for improvement. We also appreciate your comments on the cleanliness of the rooms and grounds, as well as your perspective on the food offerings and amenities. It’s disappointing that despite the efforts to maintain the property, your overall experience was hindered by these challenges. We sincerely hope that in the future, we can improve upon these aspects to provide a more enjoyable stay for all guests. Thank you for your feedback, and we wish you all the best for your future travels.

Where to start... they don't know how to prepare simple drinks like a mojito, they don't want to serve coffee and tell you that all the machines are broken at the same time, they sell you access to themed restaurants that are impossible to access, the app/page works terrible or doesn't work, the staff's treatment is very bad to low very ill educated most waiters and showcooking workers, the regular food, is that they are not even able to bring you a tea but they don't bring you a simple spoon there is no will, the spa even being priviledge only have to access once and yet it is almost impossible to book even if you already have it paid, the roomservice has come one day if and another not, the Smart TV of the hab does not work, we were priviledge and we did not have bathrobe and slippers we had to order, they do not clean the bathroom every day or change your bathrobes. The buffet sits at a table with no cutlery or glasses or cups and the waiters don't care. Anyway we paid a little more to enjoy the hotel more but the experience was very very bad, in each section we always found a bad experience both in the service and in the treatment.

Check in was a madhouse, no organization by staff, they are not attentive and personable. The room we received was next to the very loud lobby and utterly disgusting, the toilet flushed every minute, there were giant dead roaches on the bathroom floor and the toilet seat was disgusting and worn/stained. The lobby had live music in the evening and the wooden bridge to the right of us was equally loud every time someone walked or dragged a suitcase across it. My son and I did not sleep well at all. The guest services seemed bothered when we complained. The room looked as if it was in renovation process with half painted walls and splinters on the wooden furniture. The food was the same for the six days we were there, the food left overs from the night before was used for lunch the following day. There were more locals at this hotel than tourists. The pool was cloudy and spilt drinks floated in them almost daily. The staff seemed angry and over worked. The specialty restaurants were impossible to book online . The only place that was my family’s highlight was the ocean swims. Even in the ocean we would collect all of the resort plastic cups left behind from the sea floor. I have always loved Catalonia resort, but this will be our last visit to one. We are easy going and expect a level of service from Catalonia, we couldn’t wait for this vacation to be over. We kept all of our bags closed and never truly relaxed because of the roaches in our room. The guest services needs some compassion and sensitivity. This was one of the worst resorts we have stayed in. Don’t book this place.

This was my second time at a Catalonia chain resort and this one didn't disappoint. The service provided by everyone (and I mean everyone) was impeccable. The resort grounds were very clean and there was a variety of activities at the main pool all day. The buffet was good with lots of variety. The a-la-cartes were very easy to book (despite previous reviews) and most you could book a couple days in advance, except the teppanyaki. As long as you receive the confirmation email from the hotel, booking is very simple. If not, it can be a bit frustrating, but someone is always willing to assist. I recommend upgrading to the Privilege Premium Deluxe room. It was a very modern, clean room with all the bells and whistles. We were in room 418, so if you face the back like we did, it can be a bit noisy as it's a route for the service trucks. You also get to go to the B-Loved restaurant (and that was delicious) and have the use of Pure chill out bar, which is a mere 10 steps from the edge of the pool. Burgers restaurant is also a must try, as is the juice bar, Maloo!! Wi-Fi was very good throughout the hotel. If you are looking for a beach, this resort is not for you – there is a very small beach for Privilege guests that isn't rocky (the other side is very rocky) and the larger beach area is at the sister resort next door. It's very safe as it's in a gated community and we walked 10 minutes down the road to the marina to check out the shops and cafes/restaurants. Or you can rent a golf cart from Paul who is out front of the hotel daily. There is a golf course close by, but seriously overpriced. Check out Nauti Burro and Munchys down by the marina – both make an amazing margaritas. I found having pesos was much easier than having them convert to USD all the time - it doesn't seem to be as "accepted" as it was in the past.

I'm currently staying at this hotel with my family of four, including our youngest who is just 2 months old and needs boiled water for formula. Despite requesting a kettle from reception twice and speaking with three members of the concierge team, including the manager, we were informed that the kettles (worth approximately $15) are reserved exclusively for "privileged" guests and cannot be provided for our room! Instead, we have arranged for a room service attendant to deliver hot water daily at 5pm, which we then transfer into a thermos (luckily, we brought one). However, this schedule is inconvenient as it requires us to be in our room at 5pm every day.
The hotel is not family-friendly; outdoor dining areas are protected from birds by nets, but birds often manage to get in, causing a chaotic dining experience with scared children feeling like they're in an aviary. Additionally, despite having two strollers, we've been allocated a room on the top floor. When the elevator was out of order for 24 hours, reception misled us by claiming it would be fixed within an hour. This nearly caused us to miss our dinner reservations and forced us to carry our strollers with children up and down several flights of stairs, as the staff were too busy to assist.
This experience is unacceptable, especially considering the lack of consideration shown for young children!

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you've faced during your stay, especially given your family's needs. It’s concerning to hear about the challenges with the kettle request, room accessibility, and the dining experience with the birds. Your feedback regarding the room service schedule and elevator issues is particularly valuable. We understand how critical these aspects are, especially when traveling with young children. We will certainly review these issues with our team to ensure better accommodations and services for all guests, particularly those with families. The Ugly – Management at the Catalonia has made a conscious decision to not consider your wished about what bed arrangement you may like. The choices are two double beds or a single king-size bed. My friend and I found ourselves in a king-size bed, which was not good for me as she snores. We could not change rooms for two nights and had to leave the first room at 11 am and could not get into the new one until 3pm. After talking with many people staying at the Catalonia, we found a lot of people in the same predicament: married people in double beds, and friends and brothers having to share a king-size (they were traumatized!). The rooms themselves are quite nice, but if management would just give consideration to peoples wishes, it would make the vacation experience much less stressful. The spa closed two days after we got there, with no notice. We were lucky enough to get in for the free water therapy that was offered, but others were given a bottle of wine and a fruit basket instead. It was closed for scheduled construction. I feel this was false marketing.
The Bad – Getting into the a la carte restaurants is easy for the nimble fingered, but hard for the technologically challenged! We even went to the desk at 7:30 to get help in getting us in, and they could not get us a reservation. Should there not be some limitation on how many reservations you get, leaving some room for others? We met people who had dinned out every night, while we got bored with the food at the buffet (which is good, but just repetitive). No Kleenex in the rooms, had to ask for bathrobes and slippers, too long between the end of the nightly entertainment and opening of the disco. Takes close to two hours to drive from Cancun airport.
The Good – The staff at the Catalonia are their most valuable asset and I truly hope they treat them better than they treat their guests, but I doubt it. Happy, friendly, exuberant and hard-working. I cannot say enough about them. Please tip more than just the bar staff. The entertainers, maintenance, grounds keepers and housekeeping all work extremely hard and are all so very friendly. The nighttime entertainment was fantastic! Good for children and adults and very energetic! To me, this made up for the management indifference it was so good! The location of the hotel, within the gated community of Puorto Adventura, is very safe but not culturally stimulating. We walked each day for one to two hours and explored the tourist shops, restaurants, and dolphin enclosures.

Just got back from catalonia riviera beach hotel this is our third time at this hotel and i afto say it wasn't as good as the last 2 visits went allinclusuve. last time you could use the steak house and also the Japanese but this time you couldn't they seem to be giving you less for your money the food in the Mercado restaurant was always cold the only restaurant were the food was hot was the snack bar and the burger restaurant the beer what was on draught was undrinkable it was always flat and served in cheap plastic cups. the staff in the theater bar seem to look at what colour you're wrist band was if you didn't have the exclusive band and only the all inclusive they gave you a crap plastic cup if you were exclusive you got your drink served in a glass i told the guy who served me i wanted my drink in a glass not plastic and is reply was there were none but there were loads behind the bar they seem to be treating the people who only book all inclusive and not exclusive as second class guests. definitely going down hill. the entertainment, wasn't as good they advertise the pool party one night and it never happened. got to say that some of the staff are very polite and friendly.
