We had a very nice stay for seven days. The food was absolutely delicious. Can’t say there was a meal we didn’t like. Jorge, our personal concierge was great and very helpful. Very pretty property. Great service and a great time!

Me and my husband had a great time. The swim out rooms are the best. The assortment of food was good also. There was an excess amount of seaweed, but they cleaned it as much as they could daily. All the workers were very nice and pleasant.

We were optimistic for a relaxing, low key, beach getaway. Our expectations were low, and we primarily wanted two things…sleep, and quiet relaxation by the pool (this was our first couple trip post baby being born). We arrived and got checked in, which was quick and easy. We booked a swim out suite, and while the rooms are nothing fancy, the access to the pool was just what we wanted. We arrived at 8pm - and since all restaurants require reservations, we were directed to the beach for the BBQ. The food was great that night, but service was awful. We ate with no drinks, and when asked for silverware, they told us it was at our table (we didn’t have a table since we arrived so late, and all of them were already cleared and bused). The attitude of the serving staff was very much one of inconvenience, and we felt bad having to ask for water, silverware, beverages as they seemed irritated by our late arrival to the beach buffet. We went back to our room after dinner, and while washing up for bed, found that the sink leaked. They came and replaced it the next evening as we were getting ready for dinner. The following morning we went to shower, and the shower handle holder was broken. Maintenance again came the next night to fix the issue, but we were doubting the attention given to the rooms after two things were broken. Sleep was tough because due to covid, they have the disco each night out at the beach bar with loud blaring music. You can hear the bass all the way in your room, and we were the furthest back from the beach (due to the swim out). I can’t imagine trying to sleep in one of the rooms closer to the beach!! The ooonce ooonce ooonce was heard all night until early in the am when they shut down. The buffets for breakfast were understaffed, so you had to wait a really long time for someone to come and serve you. Lunch at the beach bbq was ok, we ate fish and ceviche daily. The pizza was pretty bad. We waited an hour and a half for lunch from the pizza place one day and almost got up and left. Room service was barely edible. For dinners, the Asian fusion tasted like everything had come out of the freezer and had a ton of sugar. Culinarium was so bad we had to go to the dinner buffet afterwards. The Italian was pretty good and the Mexican was excellent, but otherwise all of our food was sub par. My biggest complaint is with the concierge. You have to go daily in the Morning to make your dinner reservation for that night. I went two mornings at 8 am and was told the time slots open were 5pm or 9pm. We went back later in the day and said we weren’t comfortable eating that early or late, and they found us another time at 6. But it required two trips to the concierge. Many people on the pool told us to go ahead make reservations for the whole week- so we went the next morning and asked to do this. We were told they weren’t supposed to do this, and when I started to press them and explain that others in the pool were allowed, they let us too. This is the dumbest thing- either have a rule and stick to it for EVERY GUEST, or don’t have that as a rule. Then, we went to fill out the form four days in advance for our covid test, and we’re told they would email us a day and time. Neither me or my husband received an email. We went back on Saturday to ask the concierge (flight was Monday) and were told all reservations and walk ins had been filled and they were out of covid tests, and we couldn’t get one on Sunday. Our concierge told us “sorry, you can go to the airport and test there” to which I was not comfortable with. I asked why they hadn’t reached out to us about the covid test and never told us we could walk in, and he said he had tried to reach us but was unable to. I pressed and said - how did you try to reach us- and he said well I came by your room but you were out in excursions. We took no excursions. We had no missed calls on our room phone or messages. And we had messaged with the concierge on the app already about the sink and shower issues. So I don’t believe they ever tried to reach us. Regardless, his entire attitude was “I don’t care about you people” and completely unhelpful. We ended up having to pay $80 on Saturday, spent a good chunk of our day stressed and going back and forth with the concierge, before the ONLY helpful employee, Fernando, scheduled our covid tests in our room for the fee. It was a mess and the entire vibe from the concierge was just that they didn’t care about their guests. The liquor choices were subpar compared to other 5 star riviera Maya resorts. No drambuie, tequila cream, etc. They had one day they were serving drinks out of coconuts, but for an extra charge to your room…not all inclusive. They had tequila cream (that you can order anytime from Valentin) at each hostess stand, but only available for extra charge. Same with the pretty blue and white Azul tequila. I’ve never been to an all inclusive resort where they display liquor that’s an extra charge (other than wine). We went to the spa, and spend $400 on a couples massage. Massage was subpar. My guy had callouses on his hands so they were pretty rough/uncomfortable. In the men’s locker room, the dry and steam spa were both broken, as well as the sink and a urinal. Definitely not worth the price. On top of all of that- this hotel is a party hotel. Many guests were older parents with college aged kids, or 50-60 year olds looking to party from 10am on. The swim out pool was anything but relaxing, as there were catcalls, whistling, and music played on a portable Bose speaker loudly. Multiple attempts to order shots for everyone in the pool and pass them out were made. And the palms side is supposedly the LESS party side. Thank god we didn’t book in the tower side of seaside suites. All we wanted to do was relax. I will say the guys cleaning the seaweed from the beach are working tirelessly and did an amazing job while we were there. And the snorkeling out past the barriers is amazing. But we won’t ever return to this resort. Valentin and Secrets properties are much better.

Oh where to start? We booked through Cheap Caribbean on the infinity side, had proof with us- they did not care. They put us on the villas side and only moved us to our real booking on the infinity side after we agreed to to pay $500 more. The villas are really run down and musty. We paid the difference to enjoy the vacation we intended, but were disappointed with multiple things. But let's start with what was good- the rooms on the infinity side are large, beautiful, with cozy beds and pillows and a gorgeous en suite bathroom that was to die for! Shower had dual heads, one being a rainfall. The dinner at the Italian and Mexican restaurants were both really tasty. Bili at the front desk on the infinity side was as helpful as she could be and really sweet. Lizbeth was also very sweet and helpful when she could. Alicia at the bar off the infinity lobby was great with customer service and served very delicious drinks. (Tip: try the flower pot drink, it's delicious!) In front of the lobby on the sensimar side, they had a bar out there one night that was serving liquor with coffees that they lit on fire (quite the show!) that were delicious. Oscar Rodriguez and the fire show were both amazing entertainment the night we ate dinner on the beach. Now for the not-so-good stuff...three of seven members in our group got what must be Montezuma's revenge/food poisoning and they were all sick for 4-5 days. It was not good. The buffet was not good at all, and they are still serving you due to COVID, so it took a long time to get food to boot. The pub restaurant was disgusting. Raw fish, BBQ was both bitter and too sweet. The whole meal was just not good at all. The complex is really large, and they will shuttle you in golf carts, however it takes FOREVER for them to come around. You're better off walking, but by then you'll be drenched with sweat, just fair warning. The seaweed issue was just absolutely awful here. They had people trying to clean it up (We felt so sorry for them as they were using only pitchforks to make a tiny dent in a seemingly endless job without machinery). The smell is unreal, and so awful that eating at Driftwood was completely out of the question. We were supposed to be assigned a personal concierge- never heard from them once. We had to go to the main concierge desk to reserve for dinner (oh yeah, you MUST make reservations for dinner at any restaurant). Calling concierge or room service takes a million rings before anyone will answer. Room service meals were TERRIBLE. Literally inedible, and that's after waiting for over an hour to get our food, which also arrived stone cold. Make sure if you go to download the app first. There are not good maps or information stations, so it's easy to walk (for forever) in the wrong direction. We really had issues getting enough bottled water and coffee creamer to our room on a consistent basis. The main pool was fun and had great service, though. The infinity pool out of our room was also really cool. Only two stars because of so, so many issues. Would definitely not go again.

If you think this is the hotel you are going to? Think again. This hotel may be a five stars hotel. The El Dorado seaside suites palms is definitely not a five star hotel. More like a 4 star motel. Very disappointed I am going to try to make the best of my stayed. And will make it a point to do my research next time around. Dated and stinky.
