I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Hard Rock Resort. So much to take in. My trip was equal parts fun and relaxation. The food was fantastic most especially the steaks at Toro and the new design of the space was so beautiful, I appreciated the adult only dining area as a childless traveler. the beach was beautiful and all of the service resort wide was attentive and constant. I thoroughly enjoyed, my rock star experience with the entertainment department. Shout out of appreciation to Backer and his team for inviting me into so many fun and new experiences. Danny Boy, Baby Shark, The Samurai & April were hilarious, entertaining and very motivating. The honest highlight of my trip was the Music Lab activities. Leo Raquel and Ever for turning me into a rock star. Somehow they helped me overcome my shyness and coaches me into a space to allow me to be living the dream for my 45 minutes of fame!

This is our third Hard Rock Resort location and I won't go back to Riviera Maya. You can't go into the ocean. Even though they have several lagoons, it's not the same experience i wanted. Half of the resort was under construction which limited the amenities. The restaurants were just ok and I didn't find this staff to be as accommodating as the one i encountered at other HR resorts. I won't go back to this one.

We became Palace Premier members over a decade ago when this property was Adventura Spa Palace, and have been to the Sun Palace, Moon Palace, Cozumel Palace, and the Hard Rock Punta Cana. Obviously, we enjoy the all-inclusive vacation experience and have generally much-enjoyed our time at all these properties. We upgraded to a Legendary membership two years ago. I've never taken the time to write a review, but as a frequent visitor, I feel like there are several practices/services that Hard Rock needs to upgrade at its properties. This time, I traveled with three girlfriends for a "Mama Hates Virtual School and Needs Her Sanity Back" trip. We had two first-floor rooms in Building 1. 1. Check-in. I MISS the Palace days. Previously, we'd arrive and be handed a warm, moist towel to refresh after a day of traveling. Mimosas or some similar beverage would be immediately offered in a lobby with soft music playing. Now, we're dumped out of the shuttle into a crowded lobby, and member or not, there is often a wait to check-in. SUGGESTION: For members who have visited previously, perhaps offer a quick check-in option. Maybe an app or touch-screen station where we can verify reservation details, update credit card information, and get room assignments. This would also be a good opportunity for updates. For instance, "Hey, please note on this map the large sections of the property currently closed for construction. Frida, Ipanema, and Caffetto are closed. Due to construction, kids are also all over the Heaven side. We're taking "adults-only" very loosely right now." We got none of that. (It's a pandemic; we get it. We can be flexible. It just would have been nice to know for guests expecting adults-only Heaven.) On this trip, our plane was delayed for four hours due to weather; thus, we didn't make it to the resort until nearly 10 p.m. (I appreciate our airport transfer was waiting and got us quickly on our way.) By the time we got to HR, rock music was blaring in the lobby and with the face masks, communication was extremely difficult. It wasn't exactly welcoming, but we made it to our rooms and crashed. As always, the rooms were impeccably clean and comfortable with plenty of storage. Some people might not like that Building 1 is a bit of a hike to the lobby, but we enjoyed the quiet and the proximity to the members-only beach. Also love the new comfortable cushions on the beach chairs. We were able to procure four chairs together on several days with little trouble. Also, when leaving the lobby after dinner in the evenings, we rarely had a problem finding a friendly golf-cart driver to take us back to our room. 2. Dining Can we PLEASE just create an app for this??? It's ridiculous that someone has to go to the lobby, to the ONE table dedicated to dining reservations, and spend time in a line to attempt to schedule meals. Every time, you have to ask what's available each day as it changes often. Not to mention that some days, you might REALLY want to continue napping on the beach and move a dinner reservation until later. On cruise ships, they used to have handy little screens showing capacity/expected wait times at different restaurants so patrons could experience a more free-style dining approach for walk-ups. Surely, it would be easier for guests to make their own dining reservations using an app. Zen (both hibachi tables and center option) and Le Petit Cochon are fabulous! Go often and order everything. Ciao, Toro, and Los Gallos have plenty of tasty options as well. The Market and room service options are okay. The pool-side food is hit or miss. The guacamole is good; Pizzeto is terrible. Overall, dessert options need the most improvement. 3. Spa Still the most amazing part and probably the #1 reason I keep coming back. The hydrotherapy is full of amazing, detailed care that will leave you feeling like true royalty, and I've never had a single unfavorable experience in over a decade of spa treatments. The Aromatherapy with the wax massage added was next-level. Snorkeling is nice, but you cannot go wrong spending ALL your credits here. SUGGESTION: an app allowing guests to book massage treatments. I'd love to be able to schedule my treatments with a few clicks. Currently, I have to travel to the lobby, wait for a free vacation planner, and wait on an antiquated computer system to make one appointment. I want to make ALL the appointments, and I want to do it quickly. 4. Technology Upgrades The rooms have cable, but there's a very limited channel selection, and most of it is in Spanish. Hard Rock, it's clearly time for some smart TVs or Apple TVs where we can log in to our own Netflix. We are MOMS. At the end of a long day on the beach, a trip to the spa, and a raucous dinner with generous amounts of wine, we don't want to go to a Michael Jackson show. We want to go put on our pajamas and watch Bridgerton! 5. The Time Share Breakfast So my friends asked what the benefits to being a member are, and honestly, the only thing I could come up with at this point is access to the members' beach. I honestly don't think we get much better prices than anyone else. Initially, there were some free weeks, spa promotions, etc., but it's all so convoluted, who knows? Despite the fact that we visited only two years ago and upgraded at that time, Daniela called my room at 8:30 a.m. on our FIRST morning of vacation. The FIRST morning I had to sleep late and NOT be disturbed by my four children in over a year. But Daniela HAD to call and invite me to an information breakfast. HELL. NO. I don't blame Daniela; she's actually incredibly sweet and quickly resolved an available credits issue for us, but whatever corporate higher-up thinks this process is a good idea needs to SERIOUSLY re-think their strategies. Look, we love to vacation, and I don't mind paying for something that feels valuable, but at check-in, members should have the option to basically click "yes or no" to a timeshare presentation and then move ON. Honestly, I'd prefer a handy brochure with upgrade options/specials delineated clearly rather than a circular, repetitive, two-hour presentation that leaves me frazzled. Could members perhaps have priority dining reservations? Free hydrotherapy? Cheaper room upgrades? As always, LOVED the wildlife and grounds. The property really is beautiful with miniature jungles tucked between each building. Gorgeous landscaping. Huge iguanas are literally EVERYWHERE, and you'll see the same ones in the same places each day. We cracked up watching a big guy do this crazy mating dance, only to leave his female friend for some wayward fries. There are raccoons, birds, some strange guinea-pig looking creature, and if you walk back up toward the gate, there's a huge family of spider monkeys with ridiculously adorable babies living in the trees. We watched them for half an hour, and they're fearless. A couple stood up and walked right across the street in front of us. Very cool. We love the lagoon area; it's so relaxing to be IN the ocean without fear of rip tides, and you can still see and hear the gorgeous waves. They did a great job with COVID-protocols. I never saw a staff member without a mask, and most of the guests complied indoors as well. The testing process for our return flights was quick and easy. Special thanks to Wilbur, our golf-cart driver and Israel in guest services. Really, all the staff are wonderful.
