Hotel's Favorite
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Hard Rock Resort. So much to take in. My trip was equal parts fun and relaxation. The food was fantastic most especially the steaks at Toro and the new design of the space was so beautiful, I appreciated the adult only dining area as a childless traveler. the beach was beautiful and all of the service resort wide was attentive and constant. I thoroughly enjoyed, my rock star experience with the entertainment department. Shout out of appreciation to Backer and his team for inviting me into so many fun and new experiences. Danny Boy, Baby Shark, The Samurai & April were hilarious, entertaining and very motivating. The honest highlight of my trip was the Music Lab activities. Leo Raquel and Ever for turning me into a rock star. Somehow they helped me overcome my shyness and coaches me into a space to allow me to be living the dream for my 45 minutes of fame!

We stayed at Hard Rock Riviera Maya a couple of weeks ago (late July-into early August of 2022). This was our second time at this resort since we absolutely loved our last stay back in 2019. This time we brought two more families with us (my parents and my sister’s family). We have emailed the resort prior to our stay kindly asking if we can all be placed in one building and, if possible, if we can stay in building 5. The resort was able to somewhat accommodate us by placing my parents and sister in rooms right across from one another, but placing us all the way at the end of the building. One of the most important points that affected this rating and lowered it by one star was the fact that there were no reservations at the restaurants and walk-in wait time was about 1.5 hours for a group of 9 people. When looking into the restaurant it was clear that more than half of restaurant was empty. When asked why the wait time is so long it was pretty much clear that the tables were sitting empty waiting for rock vip and other upgraded program members to “roll in”. There were no issues reserving a table during the show times which is great but the menu is pre fixe at these occasions. The Market was also available but our family preferred to have at least one sit down served meal a day so that wasn’t an option for us. The rooms and Hacienda lobby, bathrooms and restaurants can use some upgrading (signs of wear and tear were visible). The staff did share that the hotel would be going through renovation soon which we did observe started with them adding 4th floor to the ocean front side of the building 5. Other than that the service was great as always. There was plenty of wildlife (monkeys, iguanas, fish, etc.) around the resort. The lagoon is nice and peaceful with plenty of fish and crabs to observe. The entertainment definitely improved since 2019 by adding various types of music playing throughout the day by the main pool and shows for kids at the kid pool. Airport transport tip: prior to the trip it might be worth checking travel time from the resort to the Cancun international airport. There was a major construction project going on that apparently is going on for at least a year and doesn’t look like will be done any time soon. We were stuck in the car going to the airport on our way back for at least 45 extra minutes literally crawling. That made our trip from the resort to the airport about 2 hours long (going to the resort it was actually 1 hour 8 minutes long).

Had a great vacation. Our butler's were awesome. We had Moises and Edgar. They checked in with us and were there whenever we needed them. Jojo at the pool was the best when it came to finding us pool chairs and umbrellas. We also had a great experience with Viviana at the tours desk. There was a small mess up on one of our excursions and she made sure she found us the next day to explain what had happened and make things right with us.

Our family of 6 were greater at check in by our personal butler Nepolian. Him and his assistant Allen did great our whole week. Always there to answer questions and reservations for dinner. They made the trip a breeze! Our favorite dinner was Habachi and our cook was Carlos! He was so great we went twice! Great personality and amazing food. Toro was great too. Overall, nothing negative to say about this resort. We will be back!

Where to start, I normally try to break my reviews in to sections so here goes- Rooms, we had a 2 bedroom sky terrace which with 2 teenagers was perfect, loads of space and privacy. We didn’t use the sky terrace much so could have got away with a connecting room so be careful when choosing as this cost around £1200 extra for the 2 weeks. Pools, very good, plenty of space and always felt clean and well looked after, most mornings one of the group went and got some beds and you needed to be up about 7am in order to get a good spot. Food, this is where we we disappointed, food at the pool was very good, loads of selection and had a burger, pizza and taco station located around the pool. The restaurants were frustrating as most had a lengthy wait especially the steakhouse. I didn’t have a bad meal to speak of but some of the group did and just wasn’t wowed which was a shame for the cost. My best restaurant was the Mexican in the hacienda side. Worst experience was the 2 hr wait at the steakhouse for 10 of us only to be split in to a 6 and a 4 when being seated. Front of house staff seemed rude and not very helpful, waiters and drinks staff were much more attentive in the majority of restaurants. Golf, we played the hard rock and the PGA Rivera Maya, the PGA was outstanding and would highly recommend, the HR is all inclusive and offers a decent discount. Make sure you agree a price with the taxi driver before as we paid a lot more to come back from the PGA compared to the outward trip. Playa Del Carmen, we went one evening, it’s only $26 in a cab and offers lots of restaurants, bars and gift shops. Didn’t feel overly safe when we first got out the taxi as they jump on you to get you in shops and restaurants but there are plenty of police around in the streets. Regardless of the police we got offered drugs multiple times! Entertainment, both sides of the hotel offered a good selection of live music, Beatles, Elvis and the Rock night was probably the best. Itinerary repeats on the 2nd week which is fairly common. Heaven has a great bar with a couple of pool tables which we found ourselves going to most nights towards the end of the 2 weeks. Weather, was more hit and miss this time round, we’ve always come about the same time (last week of July) quite a few storms and plenty of rain this time which was a shame but not much you can do about that. Sea, they’ve built a closed off section which was great, keeps the seaweed out and was often very clear, there are canoes to hire as well as scuba floats and plenty of fish to look at. Water Park, really good with 3 big slides and plenty for the kids to entertain themselves with, also has tennis, football, volleyball and basketball courts scattered around. The pool team does a good job with classes, volleyball and foam parties. Was I wowed? No, would I go back? No again but we did have a lovely time with friends and family. Needs a teen club and better quality of food in my opinion

Having visited this hotel a few times when it was the Aventura Spa Palace, we were really looking forward to our stay. Unfortunately, becoming a Hard Rock Hotel has not had a positive impact in my experience. We travelled as a family with our daughter in her early 20s and our 15 year old son. We were booked into a Gold room which claims to be suitable for 3 adults and one child (up to the age of 17) - it isn’t!! Despite being sold as sleeping 4 people, facilities in the room were only suitable for 2 people. Other than 4 bath towels, everything else was in 2s (hand towels, cups, glasses, slippers etc) so we had to ask for more. We also requested more hangers as 6 was not sufficient for 4 people. Unfortunately after the first daily clean, we were back to 2 cups, glasses etc! There is also very limited privacy in the bathroom as it is separated from the main room by shutters and a sliding shutter door (lock didn’t work) and therefore no sound proofing. As you can imagine, this is not the best for a self-conscious, private son and daughter. Due to this, we asked if we could purchase another room for the ‘children’ however we were told that there were no free rooms available and the only option was to upgrade to the presidential suite at an extra $850 per night!! Unfortunately, after spending nearly £10k on this holiday from the UK, this was not an option for us so we have stayed put! The hotel and the environment are still as beautiful as ever but I feel that over commercialisation and the push of timeshare (Hard Rock influence?) has lead to a negative experience for us. We are currently still here but I feel compelled to write this review before I return home in the hope that some of these issues may be addressed whilst out here (we have 5 days left in resort and would welcome a discussion with management). Sunbeds - always a contentious issue however didn’t used to be and it’s only a problem if you aren’t a Hall of Fame resident 🙄. To get a bed around the pool with an umbrella, you have to put towels down by 7:30am. At this time, Hall of Fame residents’ beds have already been reserved by porters in the hotel despite a hotel sign asking you not to reserve beds!! There are also dedicated areas for such guests (with comfier sunbeds etc) so I am at a loss as to why so much of the general areas are reserved also. Many of these beds stay empty for most of the day with the reserved signs on and towels but no guests. To feel like an inferior guest from 7.30am onwards on the first day is not acceptable and certainly not something I would expect from a 5 star hotel! The last few evenings, we have tried to make reservations at a couple of restaurants for dinner. Last night we went to Toro (steakhouse) at 5.30pm. We went early as the previous evening we were turned away due to 15 families waiting ahead of us. Reservations cannot be made any other way than lining up to book a table either later in the evening or stay and wait with a buzzer. Unless of course you are Hall of Fame/VIP (timeshare) when you can make your reservations and just turn up for your time (or not!). We waited for an hour and there was a table of 4 free from restaurant opening at 5.30pm. We asked about this table and we’re told that it was reserved by, yes you’ve guessed it, Hall of Fame members at 6.30pm. At 6.30 I asked how long they hold the table for and was told 10 minutes (my husband had asked before this about the table and been ignored). At 6.40pm we were sat at the table. The steaks were amazing so thank you for that however this, again, is not the type of service expected of a 5 star hotel! There are some good parts to the hotel, mainly the extensive range at the breakfast buffet and coffee shop, however our experience so far is being overshadowed by being the ‘lesser guests’. I feel the hotel needs to work out it’s priorities and if favouring some guests over others due to the options available to them (a timeshare here living in the UK is not a realistic, affordable option) then it needs to reassess accessibility to others. As stated, we are here until 12/08/22 (5135) and would welcome a discussion with the general manager to rectify the above as unfortunately our special holiday has not turned out to be as special as we had hoped.

Dear Lorraine, Thank you very much for your review; I'm pleased to read that you have enjoyed most of your experience at our resort. However, there are a few points that require our attention and I assure you that we are working diligently to address those areas of opportunity and improve our overall service and therefore the Hard Rock Experience. We like to make our guests feel like true Rock Stars at all times. Your comfort is very important to us, we have designed our facilities and services for your comfort, we count on transportation services from the lobby to lobby and the promenade road that connects Heaven and Hacienda in a straight line while you enjoy the ocean view and the beach, we are a phone call away and we are always ready to make our best to assist you. I will have one of our specialists contact you to address any comments you may have in addition to this review. I hope to see you soon and make another memory with the band. If you like all the Hard Rock stuff you will be fine. If you want a bit of variety everything is sponsored by Hard Rock. There are no holiday company reps as they only have HR reps in the hotel. Market shop is soooo expensive. Staff are fab in the bars, the restaurants and the entertainment team are really good. The food is ok but quite samey. The pizza ovens are great. The ice cream and selection of sandwiches are great at the cafe
