Checked in the middle of the day. Check in was friendly. Was provided a room on the 12th floor. Room was a bit dated, very 1980s, with big Smart LCD TV with mainly Spanish language stations as well as Netflix and AmazonPrime access (cought up on my streaming) , good view, good wifi, fridge, clean bathroom.
They do have a gym on the top floor, with older equipment. The pool was closed for the cold season.
Used the restaurant once, for the breakfast, which was ok, 145 pesos, good selection of Mexican dishes, and north American.
Plenty of other restaurants with cheaper deals, if you dont care for buffet.
Many nearby cafes, coffee shops, and good taxi service. Friendly staff, and internet access in the lobby. Good shopping nearby.

Also, traveling with toddler I felt some amenities were missing which could've made the stay more comfortable.
If you're willing to put up with a few issues, to save some money and you plan to spend all day out maybe it could work, but I seriously doubt I'll stay here again.
free internet acces at the room if you have your laptop. Good food. Nice rooms. Cable. and in the most center of the city. You can view the main street through the window. and the best is the price.
My ipod was stolen. And of course at the reception all people play stupid when you complain about things missing and nobody knows nothing about it.
My recommendation: stay away from this smelly old hotel full with thieves.
I have stayed at many a different hotels in SLP and eventually hope to have reviews of every major hotel in the city. (Only a few more to go) It is rare that I give a hotel such as bad review as I am giving the Real Plaza. I was looking forward to our stay, unfortunately there were so many things unacceptable about this hotel that I would strongly recommend travelers find someplace else unless they absolutely must stay in the "Carranza" area.
1. Check in. The desk clerk couldn't find my Booking.com reservation even after giving her my reservation number, so said she would make another one same price, and there would be no problem with the Booking.com one. Alrighty. Well then next day I got an email and a $55 charge for not showing up from Booking.com that still has not be refunded. How "classy" is that?. Totally Unacceptable.
2. Gym. The view is great but the equipment is cheap and low class. The treadmill is a joke. I have not seen a cheaper piece of equipment in a hotel gym in a long long time. The Ellipitcal is also a cheap brand and was broken and only worked on the lowest speed with no resistance. A young couple showed up ready to workout and upon seeing me using the only workable piece of aerobic equipment they left, obviously disappointed. The free weights consisted of two cheap $10 plastic dumbells. The universal gym equipment seemed ok though. The stark lack of aerobic equipment is not justifiable for a hotel of this capacity and supposed "Class". Unacceptable
3. Pool. After working out we put on our suits and went to the heated pool to relax and enjoy the view. Just as we got there the person in charge made everyone get out of the pool saying he was closing. It was 9pm on a summer evening. I asked if he would just let us jump in for a few minutes since we had just gotten there and literally planned our whole evening to finish up with a relaxing dip in the pool and he said no. (Great way to please your customers.). He said the hours were 9am-9pm, which I did not see posted anywhere. So we had less then one minute to take in the incredible rooftop view of SLP before they closed the entire terrace. We decided to come back the next day. Well the next day it was closed for maintenance and the terrace and the viewing area locked off. So I thought we could try it the following day in the morning before we checked out. As well it was closed the next day. I cannot believe that the hotel worker could not have let the guests stay a bit longer if they were going to close it for the next 2 days. Just pathetic and we were all so seriously disappointed! Furthermore if I had known the pool would not be usable during my stay I would have booked the Hotel Panorama instead. A big part of the reason of choosing the Real Plaza was that I wanted to relax on the rooftop terrace every evening. Totally Unacceptable.
4. Air conditioning. Their duct system is old and unreliable. All business "Class" hotels in SLP that I have stayed at have Mini-Splits. The Real Plaza's system alternated between Cold Air and No Air At All. The room was a bit stuffy so we put the air on and it cooled up so much that we all slept with blankets. Then at 3 am it stopped putting out cold air and the room heated up so much that everyone took the blankets off, then hours later it cooled down again. Well my sons allergies kicked in from so many hot/cold cycles and sleeping without the blanket at the end. He came home sick with a cough from this trip. I myself was unable to sleep through the hot cycles and ended up very tired from our two nights at the hotel. Unacceptable
5. Room
2 pillows per bed is standard but they weren't exceptionally comfortable. This is not the Holiday Inn or the Courtyard. We noticed walking back at night that only about 25% of the rooms in front with the views of the city were occupied, and yet they put most guests in rooms on the interior areas (us included) with no views. So we had a view of the rooms opposite us and the concrete below. Seems to be a theme about this hotel of a complete and total lack of desire to impress their guests. The Wifi worked however, though not very fast.
6. Wake up and smell the coffee. Guess what? There is no Coffee Maker. Unheard of in a business class hotel. I do not want to wake up, shower, dress and go downstairs for my coffee! I want to wake up, drink my coffee check my email and messages, and then go to breakfast awake! No fridge either but there is an ice machine on the first floor. Both times I went to it there was only enough ice for 1 bucket. I took the last bucket one time and felt bad for the young woman that arrived after me who was going to return to her room without ice. There are no soda or snack vending machines at the hotel either. Unacceptable.
7. Newspapers. I needed a newspaper to check classified ads. Looked around the business center and the lobby and found not one. Also noted the lack of complimentary coffee in the Lobby and business center. Went outside and there were no news stands nearby. Had to walk 4 blocks to the Oxxo mini mart for a newspaper.
8. Service. When my son left in the morning for his university exams he needed a Taxi. We went out to the street and there was no hotel Taxi waiting. He then waited five minutes for one to pass but none came. Finally he crossed the street and waited to flag one down. You would think the bellboys would be watching and call a taxi for guests but not at this "Classy hotel",. When he got back a few hours later while I was searching the area for a newspaper he couldn't get into the room since I had the key card. He asked the maid and she refused to let him in, so he had to wait 30 minutes in the lobby for my return.
This was such a horrible stay. The only thing I can say positive about this hotel is that the The room was clean and the bathroom and Shower worked fine, as did the TV. The location is within walking distance of the town center (about 10 minutes) and the view is great if you are lucky enough to be there on a day the terrace is open.
My advice, if you are a business traveler stick to the hotels near the industrial center. The Holiday Inn Quixote, Holiday Inn Express, or the Courtyard Marriot are First "Class" hotels with all the amenities and offer everything you could want along with a guaranteed good nights rest. If you want to stay nearer the University area try the The Westin San Luis Potosi and if you wish for a really "Classy" experience in the city center the Hotel Museo Palacio de San Agustin would be your best bet.
If you value your rest, or vacation time, The Hotel Real Plaza offers absolutely nothing to be desired and should be completely avoided. If they actually had any desire to care for their customers they could have avoided this negative review but obviously they really do not care. Too bad for them. Won't be coming back, six thumbs down from all three of us.
