We spent April 4-12 at Club Med Ixtapa and we highly recommend it as a wonderful family vacation.

Been twice. great hotel, excellent service. We stayed in the Sol suites. beach and ocean amazing. food is excellent, yes buffet food go figure. The rooms need a bit of TLC here and there but we were rarely in them. Good value for money. Can't...More
My first time at a club med resort, and my wife's first time back in almost 18 years. We chose the Ixtapa property because of the family friendly reputation, the reviews that this had the best food of all the properties, and because we've never...More

Yes, the resort exchanges currency but the rate isn't that great. We found locals preferred pesos more than the US dollar, so we exchanged at home, but ran out and found it better to go to a local Mexican bank (take a taxi) to exchange more for best rate. I'd say as far as packing, plan cool, breathable and active clothing options. It was quite hot and humid and we wound up changing often after active activities, so extra clothes or maybe even detergent to wash may be a good idea. Bring an all white outfit for white night, something tropical, neon colored, Mexican colored, to go along with weekly themes. This is optional of course. If you have kids bring a backpack for them to keep sun block, a hat, bathingsuit, change of clothes, if they will be going to mini club. Also bring a plain white t- shirt for them to tie dye on Friday.
Have fun, I cant wait to go back.

There is an enclosed bar around the pool area. We never used it, but only went inside to get drinks, which we took outside and sat on the patio area. I did notice that a smll buffett was set up inside this room before dinner. This was an air conditioned area, but not particular intimate. There were tables and comfy chairs on the patio, which we preferred. Hope this is helpful.
