Escondido lives up to its name, being on a virgin beach on the coast of the state of Oaxaca. A short distance from Puerto Escondido, the Mexican mecca for surfing, this haven of peace and tranquility offers you an escape from the routine and stress of everyday life, leaving you with no other option than to enjoy yourself. Its sixteen cabins, its spa, pools and restaurant make the guest feel in Mexico at all times. Its colors, cuisine and, above all, human service and warmth, make this hideaway unmistakably Mexican.

We were overwhelmed by the beauty and simplicity of this gorgeous building and the ways in which the natural world were incorporated into our experience. Everything from the tranquil koi pond to the balcony of our room had been thought out to maximize joy and privacy! The desk advisors were helpful to me from beginning to end, even over the phone as I called a couple of times prior to our stay. They were cheerful and encouraging despite my terrible Spanish skills. Facility staff was lovely, and our room was tidied daily and towels only replaced if we left them on the floor, which was eco-friendly. The pool deck was small but very enjoyable; one of us tanned there and one of us wore tons of sunscreen hahaha!!! The pool really made our visit and I was so happy because there seem to be not that many hotel pools in this area. Our breakfast each morning was generous and delicious. Nothing “continental” about it; we had tons of yummy breads, yogurt, and my favorite, fresh papaya. We loved our cocktails, dinner there our last night(a little on the light side as it was meat-free, but perfect for us), and last but not least the honey-scented bath products for our use in our room. The only drawback was that I was a bit hesitant about the invoicing and use of PayPal for settling our bill prior to arrival. I’d been assured by Bonvoy that we could pay when we arrived, but I was emailed several requests from the hotel to take care of costs beforehand. I think that these locations abroad should better synch with Marriott to make it clear what the payment expectations are and to allow payment through the Marriott platform. But honestly, this didn’t prevent us from thoroughly enjoying our stay. We would love to return!!!

Honeymoon from hell! There is nothing on the hotel website that tells you that the rooms are all open air and do not have functioning doors or windows. This led to a bevy of problems in our room. There are bugs of all kinds everywhere and the AC does not work well enough to cool the room. We found water bugs coming out of the sink, no hot water at times, and our ‘personal plunge pool’ wasn’t clean enough to actually swim in. The common areas in the hotel are very nice, but it did not make up for how uncomfortable the lodging was. My wife and I both got food poisoning, but the worst part was when we found a large Tarantula in our bed. The food at the hotel and the service was remarkable, but the hotel still needs some major improvements if they are advertising a romantic retreat.

Dear R5152RGandrewm, We deeply appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback about your recent honeymoon at our hotel. We are truly sorry to hear that certain aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations, and we want to address your concerns. Regarding the hot water situation, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. We understand the importance of a comfortable stay, and we want to clarify that our hot water is solar-powered. As a result, it may take a little longer to become fully functional, especially during certain times of the day. We will work on finding ways to improve this aspect and ensure that guests are informed about the solar-powered system. We understand your concern about bugs in the area. As an eco-friendly resort nestled in the heart of nature, we do our best to maintain a balance between preserving the environment and providing a pleasant stay for our guests. However, the natural surroundings and the *raining* season can contribute to the presence of insects. Please rest assured that we continuously strive to address this issue through regular pest control measures. We are glad to hear that you found the food remarkable. However, we are deeply sorry to learn that you and your wife experienced food poisoning during your stay. We had no information regarding that and yet you still had quite a few meals at the hotel. We take matters of health and safety very seriously, and we have rigorous food safety protocols in place. Your feedback regarding this incident will be thoroughly investigated, and we will take the necessary steps to prevent such occurrences in the future if it were the case. We appreciate your understanding that being in a secluded natural location, we may encounter unique challenges. While we endeavor to provide a wonderful experience for all our guests, we recognize that some situations may arise unexpectedly. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we will use it to identify areas for improvement. We want to assure you that your comments have been shared with our management team, and we are committed to making necessary adjustments to enhance the overall guest experience. We hope you would consider giving us another opportunity to host you in the future. We would love to welcome you back and showcase the improvements we have made based on your valuable feedback. Once again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We wish you and your wife all the best, and we hope to have the chance to make your future stay truly exceptional. Warm regards,

The hotel is in a lovely peaceful situation directly on fhe beach with its breaking waves. It is a good 45 minute car journey north of the main town of Puerto Escondido Some might find it quite remote. Staff go to much effort and rooms are clean and well maintained. However during our stay rooms 16 and 15 had a pungent smell every night between 7pm and midnight. Food is below average but the property next door has good food and the nearby restaurant Omakase is excellent.

This place is perfect if you want to get away with someone and leave most of the world behind. The location is far from crowds and the beach is clean and wide. The rooms are beautiful, clean and each has a large plunge pool so you could actually never leave the extreme privacy of your suite. Expensive and a hike to get to- but we thought it was very much worth it. Staff was wonderful in the restaurant and spa.

This is a lovely, boutique hotel right on the beach. Nice pool right next to the beach. Very private beach because the resort is remote. Wonderful staff. Private bungalows. 14 rooms. Nice restaurant. It is remote and hard to get to - very rough dirt road. While they have air conditioning in the rooms, they are not "air-tight" rooms and the AC is not real large - so consider how hot it may be at night.

We had the best time here, I highly recommend this beautiful place with lush greenery, delicious food. The staff are incredible. We ate must of our meals at the hotel, after tasting the delicious food at the hotel was hard to go anywhere else. Daniel, Vielka & Ariadne in the restaurant made our experience in the hotel restaurant perfect. Stephanie at the reception was great, everyone in this hotel was smiling and so welcoming . Thank you Valle Escondido for making our stay unforgettable. The good energy here was just what we need it.. 🥰🥰 Nivia Weitzner HHI, SC

This Hotel is far away from puerto escondido town. Very calm and nice environment When a place like this has a bad management is not posible to have a good team. They have to call the taxis to pick you up , they have to help with reservation, is in the middle of nothing, but management don’t help. Very bad service , not because of the employs its because they don’t know how to do it. We have a nice stay, when we live the place a taxi that they call came to pick us up and the back of the taxi was wet. We ask for a towel, and the manager didnt want to give us and she vas rude. Also the cover of the room has stain and not toilet paper in the room , you have to call every day. Never space for aspa treatment, they don’t have people to do it. Not recommended until change management, very potencial to be a great place.

One of the 15 spacious palapas, up little winding paths , with their own plunge pools , a hop skip and jump from the beach, was our home for 5 nights. This exquisite room was only marred by an enormous. TV (surely not required) and the poor lighting which made bed time reading virtually impossible, although appreciated use of solar power may be the cause of this. The a la carte food was excellent and the cocktails superb but the set menu dinners could be disappointing. Included breakfast not particularly exciting either. The staff were wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. The pool bar was closed during our stay so they spent a lot of time running across hot sand collecting drinks from the restaurant always with a smile!! Be warned that this hotel is often used as a weekend wedding venue and "setting up" can begin during your stay. Equally the surf can be big, the waves strong and I certainly didnt swim.

My wife and I came here for our honeymoon after getting married in Oaxaca City. We drove down from Oaxaca on highway 131, which we’ll never do again, because it was the most stressful and harrowing drive I’ve ever done. So, after the 7+ hour drive through the mountains and more potholes than you can shake a stick at we finally arrived at hotel Escondido. What a welcome sight after that drive. The peaceful and quiet nature of the hotel immediately put us at ease. It’s got a super cool design and is immersed in nature not just sat on top of it. We spent most of our days sipping cocktails by the pool because the surf was a little too rough to swim in but we didn’t mind. The pool, the food and the vibe were immaculate. Not too many people around but just enough to have some cool conversations. We especially loved our personal plunge pool and sun deck attached to our rooms. The staff was very attentive and the service was great. Since the rooms are immersed in nature you may get the occasional bug or lizard in your room but we didn’t mind at all. For us it was all a part of the experience. There isn’t much else to do in the area because of its remoteness so keep that in mind. Puerto Escondido is about 45 mins away so once you’re there, you’re there. There is an amazing sushi place walkable from there called Kakurega Omakase which we loved. Also, Casa Wabi is down the road a ways and is worth taking the tour. We loved our stay here and hope to make it back again soon.

We stayed here twice. First time was 2 nights in May 2021 the second time was for 5 nights on November 2021. On the first night of our second visit I woke up with many bed bug bites all over my body. It ruined the rest of my stay. The hotel staff changed the mattress and cleaned the room but other than that did not yield much. Manager made it seem as if getting bed bug bites was part of the experience of staying in a remote location like this. Be prepared for less than sympathetic staff. The location and design of the hotel are nice but it seems overpriced for what you get. There are more affordable and better places to stay in the area. For what you are paying I found the service was average and was not impressed. I wouldn’t stay there again nor recommend it. Only thing excellent was the food at the restaurant.
