We felt the reception to be a bit cold: the parking was full and the road was covered with ice. This did not seem to be their problem. The family room was large and good value for money. The spa is smaller than average, but overall fine. The food is good but would not quote it as “excellent”. Breakfast is fine, but every day the same. The owner is friendly and is on some days the guide for some very nice walks. There were a few returning guests when we were there who over years seem to be befriended with the owners, which is a good sign. Overall atmosphere is nice. It is located in a quiet area but with very easy access to the main road in the valley. We would return.

Just outside of Neiderthai and 5 minute walk from the top of the Stuibenfaelle waterfall is a very pretty typical Austrian type of hotel. The views across the meadows and surrounding tree topped hillside make it an idyllic place to stop. We had driven up here to see if we could leave the car whilst we did the downward section of the waterfall and then I would pop back later for it but there are numerous signs saying parking is for hotel guests only and a tow away service operated there. we never saw anything whilst we were there but it was a weekday and I imagine it can get very busy at weekends but we 'chickened out' anyway and I drove back down the mountain to the car park just outside Umhausen and walked up. This left my wife with about an hour and half to kill (according to the signs) and so she decided to make use of the Gasthof Stuibenfall cafe/restaurant. She was able to have leisurely drink and a nice plate of Bratkartoffeln. I made the journey back in 65 minutes but according to my wife look like an 'exhausted sweaty mess' (but there's love and appreciation for you!). So I went for the same soft drink and meal option and it was served very quickly by a very entertaining and efficient waiter. Meal was inexpensive (by Austrian standards) and the service was exactly what we wanted. Our guy spoke very reasonable English and was relaxed enough to have a laugh and joke with us. On a sunny day the terrace is beautiful, peaceful and a delight to while away some time before a strenuous trek to the base of the mountain. Although this is classed as being in Niederthai signs suggested the town was a good 30 minute walk away -uphill.

We went there for a late lunch. Small portions but more expensive than in other restaurants in Niederthai. Food quality less than average. Waiter was not clean dressed and really unpolite when we asked to pay with credit card. We decided to give only a small tip and he laughed at us when realizing it. Don't stop there, better go up to the village. Nicer places with much better views and food.

We apologize, the waiter was not too fit and he does not attach much importance to his dress. The many positive comments about our restaurant prove that you can eat very well with us and the place is really beautiful. Catering is hard work with a lot of human commitment, we regret not always achieving our goals. Regarding the payment it is true that we do not accept credit cards, attention is often the case in Austria. We renew our apologies and hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you another time. We came with my husband and daughter to sit there for a refreshing drink and a plate of soup after walk near the water fall. I have ordered soup and my family just drinks. After 20 minutes when i noticed that people who came after us started getting their order but mine didnt i asked a waitress if my soup was on the way ( have to specify in English language nomatter how ridiculous it sounds) and the reply was in German that she does not understand me. She then asked if i spoke German and I said no, so she then shrugged and said she cant help me. Then what seemed the owner came out ( with whom I placed the order initially) and asked what is the problem, i said that it seems there was a misunderstanind i ordered soup but it didnt arrive. His exact words:" what soup ? There are different soups!" When ordering i specified which exactly and showed in the menu. I told him to forget it and just bring us the bill. He left somewhere for 5 minutes across the street and then finally we got the bill. The whole experience was very unpleasant and rude, we felt that we were totally unwanted in the place and discriminated because we did not speak German or perhaps because the order was not big enough for them.
