I was fortunate to visit this hotel with a friend of mine who had connections to the chef who developed the menu for their restaurant. Our party of four were treated to an incredible lunch that was narrated by chef DDDD herself. She explained the culinary history of the entrees and how they were made. When I thought of Mexican cuisine, foods like tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc. came to mind. I had no real understanding of authentic Mexican cuisine based on indigenous tradition and recipes. Needless to say, the food was delicious, well presented, and very affordable. For example, it took 24 ingredients to make the mole for the dish that I ordered, resulting in a rich, complex flavor. If you want to experience a true culinary education, try the restaurant at Casona Maria. It could be one of the highlights of your trip.

Casona Maria was a delightful surprise during our visit to Puebla City. The friendly people at the hotel was so kind to give us a tour through about 5 different rooms. Each room was decorated according to different towns in the state who carries the same as the city, Puebla. Just beautiful. For lunch, the hotel’s restaurant Santo Menjurge . We were so lucky to be attended by the Chef Charo Fernández López. Big surprise!... she explained to us every dish and the different ingredients in the ones we selected as well as the story involved with each one of them. Flavours, aromas, beautiful presentations... a fine dining Mexican experience. Chicharrón Cream was outstanding, Poblano Mole was delicious. And to top it up, dessert was delicious. A delicate kind of brioche filled with flavourful pastry cream and and tasty and delicate pumpkin seeds sauce, which according to the chef, it takes 2 days to prepare. Our stay in Puebla became a culinary tour in just one stop. We had an appointment to a Talavera tour. With all the time we took for lunch, they were so helpful to call the talavera factory to let them know we were running a bit a bit late. We learn about, Puebla’s cooking, history and their kind people. Many thanks Casona Maria!

I stayed here for five nights. I stayed in the two different suites they had(one for two and one for 3 nights). The suites were huge, and had tons of character. A family could easily sleep comfortably in one. I did peek in at some of the regular rooms and they were nice but small. The breakfast was outstanding. It was a little formal for my taste, but nonetheless of terrific quality and variety. The hotel is maybe a 10 minute walk from the center of the city, but it seemed totally safe. Also around the hotel there are a few great non touristy bars and restaurants. Would definitely stay again.

Lovely building close to (but not in) the centre of the town. The hotel offered secure valet parking and the reception staff were very friendly. The room was spotless and the building itself, with plenty of original features retained, was beautiful. Breakfast was ample - an enormous buffet with many different options, both Mexican and European - and very good quality. Our room was at the front and on quite a busy road. There was a nightclub on the other side of the street playing quite loud music on our first evening, however the windows were double glazed and most (though not all) of the noise was kept outside. The second night was much quieter. We liked the location. It is in easy striking distance of the sights and restaurants and the centre of the city, without being in the noise and the crowds. The street itself is not the most beautiful of spots (although we could see volcanos from our widows). We didn't feel at all nervous walking around the city at night but walking into town does involve a couple of quieter, darker roads.

Outstanding Boutique Hotel In Historical District We recently stayed at Cason Maria Hotel as we toured Puebla MX. This boutique hotel is reasonably priced and close walking distance to many historical sites in downtown Puebla. Staff was extremely helpful, the menu reasonably priced and the food preparation outstanding. I never thought scrambled eggs with bacon could be presented in such a delicate manner. Hats off to the chef and wait staff. We would highly recommend Cason Maria
