The Hotel Colonial, with a prime location one block from Puebla's main square, dates back to 1668 when it was built as a Jesuit monastery. The building is catalogued as an Historic Monument, because of its magnificent colonial architecture. Its restaurant is known locally for its excellent cuisine, and recomended in almost every foreign tour guide. The "Mole Poblano" served every day in its dining rooms is reputed to be the best in the world.

I couldn’t give the hotel 4 stars simply because there were some hairs in my shower when I arrived. I don’t know why the cleaning staff don’t just clean them because it’s quite easy to do, even if they just wash them down the drain! To be honest, they had cleaned the hairs away

I enjoyed my one night at this hotel for its friendly staff, location and charm. The rooms on the first floor (one above reception are atmospheric with original tiles and french balconies overlooking the street. The rooms on the second and third floor are more basic. I had

Our room didn’t have AC and I was concerned, but at this elevation it’s not necessary. Don’t let this frighten you. This hotel is beautiful in it’s Colonial architecture. It’s an old hotel, but very well cared for and clean. I have two criticisms. 1) the beds are rock hard.

Hi Doug, My wife and I second Patrick's room advice. We stayed there three nights. We spent the day in Cholula (bus tour also) and also concur with his recommendation. There are several bus tour options, all leaving from the Zocalo, so check to see which one meets your needs before booking at the Tourist Information Office, located at the Zocalo.
