The hotel is beautiful. However, apart from being an extremely expensive hotel for the area, the staff are extremely rude and overcharged for everything! I stayed here to get ready with my bridesmaids for my wedding and the morning turned into a nightmare. From their outlets not working, not letting us get ready in the room, trying to charge us $200 USD for a get ready room that they offered without mentioning charge, and charging for coffee service within 2 hours of bringing it. I will never stay here again, nor do I recommend it to anyone. It is not worth it.

Our experience of a week’s stay has been wonderful. Our room and the hotel’s restaurant were a delight. It’s hard to pick anyone out for especially good service, as everyone we encountered was friendly and responsive. With only 12 rooms “boutique” is a good description. One does have to pay attention to noisy events on the roof terrace that may go into the small hours. An unfortunate feature of the hotel architecture is that there is no proper lobby. A patio open to the sky is probably ok in warm weather months, not so much in December. There is a cozy bar attached to the restaurant that serves this purpose and nobody objected to our using it as an area for relaxation and conversation.

I had three master suites. One morning a man appeared in my 86 year old mothers room, having somehow unlocked the door with a magnetic key. I complained to the General Manager and was assured a complete investigation. I never heard back from that at all. I emailed them 3 weeks later and still have not heard a word. If you are concerned for your safety, this is NOT the hotel to stay at.

I held my wedding at Casa Grande in May of last year. It was indeed a wonderful day filled with so many memorable moments, though perhaps it's taken me a year to write this review because of the many frustrations we experienced with the hotel itself. It is without a doubt one of the best event venues in Michoacán because of its location, and it is for that reason that we selected Casa Grande for our wedding. The poor impressions started on the moment of our first visit. While we were exploring wedding venues in Morelia in October 2018, we visited the hotel only to be greeted by a dismissive front desk receptionist who simply refused to show us the event spaces. Thankfully, another hotel employee we met just a few minutes later was exceptionally considerate and gave us a full tour of all facilities. We were convinced immediately that this was the right venue for our wedding given the spectacular views from the hotel's roof terrace and the historic character of the hotel itself. Unfortunately, after signing the event contract, the following months were characterized by inadequate communication from the event planner provided by the hotel, and down to the final moments of even the day after our wedding, she missed important details and left us feeling stressed and frustrated. To top it all off, we had reserved almost all the rooms in the hotel for our event weekend, and we were told only upon arrival (with outdoor temperatures of 35 C / 95 F) that air conditioning was not working throughout the hotel and that the best they could do to accommodate would be to offer breakfast coupons. I'll never forget being mostly unable to sleep throughout the week surrounding my wedding because I had no choice but to stay in a hotel room where the temperature did not drop below 80 F during our stay. Hotel employees placed a large religious cross in our ceremony area and did not remove it upon request even though I informed them that neither my partner nor I were Christian and we specifically did not want any religious symbols as a part of our ceremony. While the hotel itself is beautiful and makes for an impressive event venue, the fact that I spent the week of my wedding paying exorbitant prices for rooms with broken air conditioning and a disorganized wedding planner who left us stressed until the morning after our wedding is an experience I can unfortunately never forget nor forgive considering the costs associated with our event and our stay.

We arrived in Morelia today with the intention of staying at the Casa Grande. We walked in and the male receptionist rudely informed us that he could not match the online price 🙄 and that check in was not until 4 pm anyway. We walked down the street to Hotel Virrey de Mendoza where the bellman allowed us to park our car in front and escorted us to the front desk. After showing us two beautiful rooms, they met the online price and we were sold. Exquisite, clean hotel, which cost us more, but we didn’t care. Customer service comes first, first impressions are everything.

Great 6 night stay with only a few areas that could be improved. What we loved about this place was the aesthetics of the hotel, it was originally a grand home from the 1600’s, grand size of the rooms, comfortable king size beds, enormous bathrooms with 2 separate sinks, great location in the center of town and the included breakfast. The breakfast is basically a voucher credit for 110 pesos pp towards your meal. Most of the entree’s were either 110 or less and included coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice and a basket of bread with butter and jam. We also loved that they always had fresh flowers in the rooms :) Areas we thought needed improvement were that the rooms, due to the layout of the hotel had very poor natural light, the AC was okay during our stay, but we could see that it may not adequacy cool the room down if the temp was very hot and lastly, and probably the most negative is that there is sewage/damp smell constantly in the bathroom, especially in the toilet area and seems to gets worse when you run the shower :(

We booked to stay at this hotel several months before our trip through booking.com. The booking was confirmed, credit card was given for security. The hotel then sent message saying my card was not valid and so I changed the card to another one and again confirmation was received. The second time a message came the card was not valid. As this card was also used for the remaining four hotels booked on our trip without any problem, I did not understand. We then received notice our booking was terminated. I sent a message through booking.com asking why we had been terminated and the hotel replied that they had no available accommodation. I sent another message asking how this could be after I had a confirmed booking for several months. I had no reply. I then went online and found that there was availability but at a higher price than I had obtained through booking.com. It is my belief that the hotel cancelled my booking having discovered through enquiries that they could obtain a higher price than I had agreed through booking.com. This is not the way a respectable hotel behaves hence my complaint.

Let’s start with the good stuff, nespressomachine inroom, loccitane toiletries, huge rooms, a la carte breakfast, massage inroom, and valetparking. Obviously the building itself is lovely and provides a good base for exploring the historic citycentre. The downside, rooms facing the courtyard are dark, since there is no natural light entering, smell of damp in bathrooms, just OK beds , poor soundproofing and having to run water for 5 minutes before it warms up.

I found this hotel to be incredibly clean, visually luscious, and well-located for anyone who wants to explore the city on foot. The amenities were unexpected luxuries in a hotel that even had potable water. Overall most of the staff members were helpful and friendly. I stayed here with a last minute schedule change, and mostly just wanted a safe and clean place to sleep. The A/C was out during my stay which was an inconvenience as my room did not get much air even with the window open. Mostly, the 5th star is not included as I was charged 2x for the room. I complained twice while I was there, and just sent an email to follow up. (I stayed there 2 weeks ago and have not yet been credited the amount.) Aside from that, this is hands-down a 5 star property. I will update my rating depending on when/if the financial issue is resolved.

The good: beautiful space, impeccable, excellent customer service, toiletries, best shower, comfortable bed, tasteful decor. Great view from the restaurant of the cathedral. The not so good: fan offered in room in lieu of air conditioner which did not win me over due to my temperature sensitivity. For the price would have expected they would repair the air. Food at the restaurant was just ok.
