Hotel's Favorite
Traveling around Aman destinations for a couple years and it’s time to go back again for the third time in this hidden gem of Phuket. I was very excited to come back again after a very long time. Everything was amazing from the moment we landed at Phuket International Airport. Got greeted by an Amanpuri representative who was holding a Amanpuri wooden sign board as usual and 40 minutes later, we were in paradise.
The arrival.
The moment I saw the dark grey wooden roof, everything felt like home. I was shocked by how well maintained this place is given the age of the property. Was greeted by the hotel team with their welcome ritual and drinks which tasted so good especially after an early morning flight. We were told that our room was not ready yet so we decided to have early lunch at Arva, the hotel’s Italian restaurant as we were planning to do some activities throughout the day. Our room was ready after lunch and we went straight back to change for some activities.
The room.
I would like to put the category under 2 parts as I was staying in 2 type of rooms. I decided this Phuket trip one night before arrival to escape the Bangkok heatwave and the choice of room available for that night was only the Garden Pavilion.
•GARDEN PAVILION
A nice room, with outdoor living terrace (sala) surrounded by the garden. Comfy bed for - good night rest. Everything is now controlled by a touch screen panel on the wall or via the room iPad. Welcome fruit of basket and cards were placed in the room too. The bathroom was big enough and it’s not an Aman if it’s not attention to details. I was travelling with my partner and 2 amenities for men were already in the room. Usually I have to request it again when I’m in another hotel. One thing to note is bugs and mosquitoes staying in this room.
•PARTIAL OCEAN POOL PAVILION
On the second night, I saw that this room has become available on their website. Went to the lobby lounge ask if it’s possible for me to pay the difference between the rooms and they agreed to do it. I never regret that decision, turns out to be one of my favorite room in the property. The room layout is the same with Garden Pavilion, but it has very generous outdoor living space and a spacious private pool for you to swim laps in private or even host a pool party (which I did with a small group of friends who decided to join us to stay in Amanpuri). The view was breathtaking. I spent the rest of my stay inside that pool instead of the public pool. Ofc, less bugs too and I felt like I had a pet squirrel during my stay as one of them was chilling around the pavilion too. My pavilion 604 has a very nice view of sunset too.
Facilities
A private beach, 3 pools, a gym with gorgeous view, restaurants, spa, a newly renovated boutique which has everything you need (bought lots of their clothing) what else do you need? As the first Aman hotels, it’s not uncommon to have so many steps of stairs from the public facilities to your room, but Aman has a buggy service to bring you anywhere inside the estate with just one call away. Even if when you’re feeling lazy taking the staircase, just ring them up and they will happily bring you to your room from the lobby or vice versa. Despite the full occupancy during my trip, I still barely see anyone at the public area. Non motorised watersport is complimentary but the waves was too high to enjoy so we ended up chilling by the beach and doing a short swim in the ocean.
Dining
I don’t usually compliment foods or drinks as I’m a chef and used to be a bartender, but the credits should be given to them. There’s multiple of restaurants inside the hotel. I had the chance to try Beach Terrace, Buabok, Arva and Sunset Terrace. For spice lovers, try their Crab Curry from Buabok. It’s definitely the best crab curry I have ever tried before. Arva has amazing pasta and steak with a nice and extensive selection of premium wine to pair your dinner. Beach Terrace was good, but Sunset Terrace was next level. Sunset Terrace is a bar serving snack foods and their specialise drink is Negroni (I assume as there’s tons of different negroni in the menu). Try their Elder Flower Negroni, it’s not your typical one but it tasted magical.
There’s also a complimentary tea time by the main pool area everyday from 4pm to 5pm with traditional Thai cakes and delicious passionfruit drinks, my favorite is the one with lemongrass infused water.
A suggestion, more food option on Arva would be nice as I ran out of ideas what to eat on the second night.
Service
Two words to describe, UNQUESTIONABLY GREAT. From arrival to check out, everything was seamless which is the usual Aman standard. I would like to mention 2 names that really highlight the stay, Khun Nun and Khun Ang. Both of them was the best keeping up with all my requests and even try to assist me during their off days, talk about best service. I was running out of cigarettes during the stay and they offered to help me get it from the nearest convenient store as I was too lazy to leave the property. One night, I came back to my pavilion and there’s already a bottle of wine waiting for me with a very romantic set up, a room full of candles and rose petals. Turndown team was also great, setting up different gifts every night and I finally own the Amanjunkie tshirt from Amanpuri! Electric repellent was also set up as I told them there’s too many bugs on my first night which I appreciate.
One small problem, the famous ‘ninja’ housekeeping team among amanjunkie was not spotted. In every Aman stay, they will come to the room to tidy up even though you only crease your bedsheet as soon as you left your room. I came back a few times during the day and the room was still messy. But as I mentioned before, the hotel was on very high occupancy during my stay, so maybe they can’t constantly do it. But no big deal, one call away and the housekeeping team will arrive in no time to clean your room. No managers was on sight too during my stay which is not usual for Aman.
Upon check out, I decided to extend my Phuket stay for a night but my partner and friends wanted to try another establishment. There was some mixed up on my booking and Khun Ang helped me to call the hotel and make sure everything was settled before my arrival there, I coudn’t be more thankful. I accidentally left some of my skincare too and Amanpuri was so kind to send it to my new hotel at night without any additional charge, real service.
I was presented with a box of AMAN chocolate before my departure and given a proper send off by their hotel car to the next hotel. Overall, it was a memorable stay and I couldn’t wait to visit Amanpuri again in the near future!

Note to self don’t pull up at a five star *super hotel* in scruffy clothes and looking like you’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards (we’d come off a windy boat)! Really regret not being a bit tidier. The super beautiful and very tidy managers did well to smile and welcome us.
We were early and our room was not ready so we went to the beach restaurant (gorgeous) for an early lunch with a much anticipated lovely bottle of dry white wine. My jaw hit the floor at the price of a bottle of bog-standard Oyster Bay SB.
Thank heavens for the 2K prosecco!
Phew. Having got that off my chest the Aman is perfect. Just lovely. The beach is stunning. The villas are immaculate (would love to know how they do that after so long where so many fail) and bang up to date with technology that actually worked for us (normally we are the kiss of death to an iPad lighting system).
I want to move the bathroom (and in particular the shower) to my home.
When you leave your bedroom for breakfast you return confident that your room will be made up on return. This one of a gazillion reasons people like Amans.
The (notionally) free minibar is a boon and an excellent idea – particularly as it has more than one coffee capsule each (Illy the best) and milk (note to others who will remain nameless) and the prettiest kettle I have ever seen. Cups a wee bit small for tea however… and a handle would be nice with boiling water…
Also while I’m here there are very few charging points (I guess age of hotel) so I was thankful for my trusty gang plug.
We missed out on an upgrade which was part of the resident’s deal ‘if available’ so were in a basic (haha there is nothing basic in the Aman) pavilion. No complaints and in fairness we were a last minute booking and the hotel was at 80% capacity (yes!) due to Chinese New Year, Valentine’s day and the absolutely stonking rates offered just now. Well done to the people who worked out that they could attract locals with this. The hotel was buzzing.
I would have preferred an a la carte breakfast. The semi buffet was a little chaotic and was neither one thing nor the other. Then on day two my wish came true (Aman does that!) so the set up was an aberration due to busy weekend. Breakfast was fine. Other food was OK but not legendary. Nun’s spicy (very) fresh bloody Mary on the beach was worth the wait and absolutely best ever.
I’ve marked down every other place we stayed in this trip. Sometimes for lesser issues than we encountered with Amanpuri. But let’s just face this square on – this is a grandmother hotel – one of the first of the super luxury venues in the world. It is a pure classic after merely 30 years’ service. To give it less than five would be disrespectful but please for goodness sake do something with your wine prices.

We are a large family of five people including small children who just went on a heavenly retreat vacation post Covid-19 lock down for 3 nights at Amanpuri Phuket, it was exactly what we needed and more. We booked directly through Amanpuri’s reservation team and the process couldn’t be more helpful & smooth plus the promotional rate for Thai resident was very attractive.
The property is more than 30 years old, one of the very first luxury private pool villas in Thailand yet timelessly beautiful & well kept. The public areas such as lobby, restaurants and bars were just immaculately stunning since the first moment we arrived.
Amanpuri definitely stood the test of time and it can be seen by rich & mature tropical landscape surrounding by majestic hills & gorgeous Andaman sea.
Our children adored Eco-Beach Centre (Kid’s Club) for 3 days straight, we have never seen them so thrilled jumping out of the beds in the morning. Amanpuri offered so much activities for family with children of all ages both within land & sea. The kids were so busy enjoying themselves and never wanted to leave.
Nonetheless services were the best Amanpuri had to offer, we loved our dedicated team of staff especially our Butlers & our private chefs who made us feel like Royalties. The team were the most memorably experiences from our entire 3 nights stay, we were definitely well pampered and well rested.
Since we’ve been back at work we often reminisce about what an amazing time we’ve had in Phuket, the only regret that we had was we could have stayed longer....

Like most other people I chose an Aman for quality, at Amanpuri, unfortunately for us, it was the lack of.
1. HOLES in the bedsheets. 20 years ago I backpacked through Australia and I never found holes in the bedsheets in any of the hostels i stayed at. When i called housekeeping and explained the situation, they sent 2 male housekeepers with towels! another call later a lady came and said "oh i will change for you, it is ok". i was like, no, this is not ok. third call later a second lady came who was more apologetic. after the bedsheets were removed we found STAINS on the mattress protector, after they removed the stained mattress protector we found dried bits of leaves on the mattress. perhaps we should have dissected the mattress and perhaps we would have found an exotic animal living in there. note that while they were changing the bedding they placed pillows and duvet on the floor and practically on top of plates full of food and sauce. while the staff were waiting for new bedding to arrive they all just stood there and browsed on their phones. im sorry that you find your job so dull!
2. the next day a manager and a guest relations ladyspoke to me and apologised. i quote "we did a thorough check of beddings and found a few more with holes in them, so thank you very much for bringing this to our attention". hum ok, so i spent almost 6000 usd for 2 nights here to do your quality assessment. how lovely!
3. unfriendly staff especially at the Japanese restaurant where we were completely ignored by the chefs at the sushi counter. the rest of the time we saw staff bored out of their minds so a lot of gathering in small groups and chitchatting much like a sunday market.
4. we dined at all 3 restaurants, i'd say the italian one was ok, the japanese and thai restaurant were terrible for the price. i felt like i was eating at an All Bar One.
5. massage was not great at all.
the manager (not the GM, i dont think i met the GM) and the guest relations lady i spoke to were nice but on a very superficial level. i'm almost certain they were given a script of what to say to guests (yes that bad). Amanpuri is a resort capitalising on its brand name while providing major subpar quality of services. I will never return to Amanpuri and thank to this experience I will think twice, perhaps 10 times, before booking another Aman. 6000USD for 2 nights of this, woah...

Love every moment during our stay!!!
We had a truly memorable experience at Amanpuri, undoubtedly, the best luxury resort in Phuket. Such a wonderful experience for us, peace, great service and memorable dining experiences. Beach is so beautiful, privacy and sunny days!
Our partial ocean view Pavilion was spacious and housekeeping show great attention to detail with eye glass lens wipes and mobile charger tidy sets, love it.
I love breakfast as there is a daily Thai special dish and fluffy French toast which is WOW, egg benedict etc fresh juices are also a must try. Sadly I cannot try all the dishes within two days. :)
Of course you cannot miss Thai food at Buabok, fresh seafood and authentic Thai food such as fresh spring roll with crab meat and crab curry and other southern dishes. We also had lunch at the Beach Terrace with stunning views; new exciting menu of stunning Brittany Dover sole, fresh Gillardeau oysters, Sicilian langoustines and wagyu hamburger with blue cheese, all wow!
Arva, their signature Italian restaurant has lots of must try pasta dishes with premium products including Brittany Blue Lobster, imported Buratta and elegant fish dishes you will never forget. Italian classics combined with a modern touch. A truly romantic location with seaviews and Italian cuisine which is both authentic and stylish. Vitello Tonnato must try another stand out dish.
We will certainly come back here again to our second home.
Thank you Amanpuri team as you are the STARS!

Traveled under the Phuket Sandbox arrangements. Significant paperwork, but once you are here, it is all forgotten. Amanpuri is in fantastic shape, impeccably clean and lovely landscaped amid tropical vegetation. Its private beach is a dream come true, very attentive service for the sun beds, a cool beach bar, white sand and shallow water, so kids-friendly. We opted for one of the smaller pavilions, but even that was very impressive. Very recently refurbished and equipped with up to date technology and controls, it featured a very spacious bed and living room, an equally large bathroom area with tub and separate shower and large outdoor private space. Housekeeping kept their eyes on the pavilion all the time; whenever we left, they came in and brought everything in perfect order. Management and staff are great, and if you like Thai food, Chef Kannika is the best! We have been at many Thai restaurants in Bangkok and elsewhere, but Kannika’s cuisine is exceptionally pleasant, with a great variety of dishes from Phuket, and also other regions of Thailand. Above all, she is very kind and caring, and took her time to explain things to us. Breakfast, including Thai dishes, is also served at the Thai restaurant. There is also an Italian restaurant that we are sure is excellent, too, but we never checked it out. The sunset bar’s signature drinks are another recommendation. This was our first time at Amanpuri, the third Aman experience. Love to come back!

Stayed at Amanpuri multiple times. The staff are professional, friendly, and always willing to assist. Surin beach is one of the best in Phuket and during the non-rainy season, their house reef is amazing for snorkeling and seeing beautiful sea life.
The resort itself is pretty much in line with other Aman hotels with minimal decorations and zen like design. At first, it seems a bit cold and unfriendly for a tropical resort but the beach and the service makes up for it.
The food is pretty good though not really worth the price. The Italian restaurant used to be better with the former chef but they try to do their best. Thai food is great but again not worth the price. The breakfast selection for the western dishes could use some improvements (eg egg white dish, pancakes and waffles are subpar). The best part in their culinary offering is their complimentary afternoon tea. Amazing selection of traditional Thai snacks which is always the highlight of our stays.
The kids club is quite small and not too exciting but they do have a skating ramp!
During the rainy season, the beach is awash with so much trash which is just heartbreaking. I personally couldn’t help but to pick up handfuls of trash multiple times each day while their employees just lounged about while there are literally no guests other than my family due to covid. For a resort like Aman, they should really take the lead and embrace caring not only their property but the nature surrounding it and clean up. Not just once in the mornings. Simply hiring someone to pick up trash throughout the day would be a drop in their bucket in terms of their expenses. It’s a small beach with two resorts under the same ownership. I really hope they do a better job taking care of the beach which is their biggest asset in my opinion.

This is first time staying at Aman for me and I sure heard a lot of positive reviews before coming here. However, our arrival wasnt smooth as we expected.
We were greeted immediately and offered the hotel tour but we would like to have lunch at one of their outlets first before going to our room. One of the lady at front desk suggested us to go to the beach cafe and we agreed. She called to ask if there is a highchair for my girl and leaded us down the stairs to find that it was fully booked. We had to walk up multiple stairs to have lunch at Arva near lobby.
When we finished our lunch and ready to go to the room, someone at front desk called a buggy for us and just left us there with a buggy driver. I had to ask the driver about my key and he was confused as well as normally there would be someone at front desk accompanying guest to the room for check-in process. So he offered to walk us to our room which was again with multiple stairs and when we got to the room we found that it was someone else’s who was just coming right behind us with front office lady. (And for the pandemic going on this kind of situation was unacceptable) We had to rush back to the lobby and pick up one of the front office staff with us to go to the right room.
The check in experience is a huge disgrace for us comparing to any others hotel at the same league.
However, the rest of our stay was good. The property itself is beautiful and well-maintained. The beach was the highlight of our trip. But now we realize that the service that Aman is known for, is not consistent and will pay more attention if we consider to stay at any of them again.

Dear Khun Sutthatip, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your detailed feedback during your recent stay at Amanpuri. I am, however, saddened to hear that we did not meet your expectations during your arrival experience, and for that I sincerely apologize. It was never our intention to leave you with a less than favorable impression, and I assure you this is truly not indicative of the service levels that we, as Aman pride ourselves on. I have addressed your comments to the departments concerned for these shortcomings, to ensure that we improve this experience and please rest assured that we will are constantly striving to improve our service for our guests. Perhaps you would be kind enough to contact me directly when planning your next stay, so I may have the opportunity to ensure it is memorable for the right reasons on this occasion and I look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Service is beyond expectations! The staff can actually read your mind and anticipate what you need . The beach is the best in Phuket . The sand is so fine and water clear even when n august when it’s rainy season. The hotel is very well maintained . The rooms are high tech with a tablet that controls everything from lights to aircon to tv . Anyone that comes here will be impressed with the service . We will be back

We stayed at the Amanpuri over the weekend. This resort is simply amazing. Indeed the flagship of Aman resorts! We were warmly welcomed and taken care off from the day of arrival. Every staff from the GM to service staff greets you by the name and pays so much attention to detail. When Beau the restaurant staff noticed my son rubbing his tummy due to indigestion, she took initiative and offered him some antacid and bread from the kitchen. We felt truly pampered by Mr Gearoid Lyons and his team. Kudos on building a wonderful team and every staff serves their guests with their heart. Other resorts may have the similar facilities and infrastructure (although Amanpuri is still superior- every area in the resort is so picturesque) but it is the people working there that makes the difference. In the case of the Amanpuri, the ‘heart ware’ stands out. We will certainly be back again.

Dear Mari A, Greetings from Amanpuri. Thank you very much for your inquiry. We do work with an external yacht charter company provider who offer private boat excursions to Phang Nga Bay, James Bond Island and the Phi Phi Islands. The boat trips depart from Royal Phuket Marina, on the east coast of the island, an approximately 35-minute drive from Amanpuri. We can also arrange for round - trip transfers. I remain at your entire disposal should you require any further assistance. Kind regards, Olivia
Dear Sami L,
