Shortly after making my reservation directly with the resort, I received an email from someone appearing to be with the resort, that was offering to make our transportation and excursion arrangements. I played phone tag a few times before I realized that her email was her name @resortcom.com. Resortcom is just trying to get you into a timeshare presentation. I declined all services and booked what I needed directly with Tripadvisor. A week before the trip, I was contacted by Joe Pineda, who works for the resort and was the pre- arrival concierge. He also was able to book transportation and excursions and he had a better rate than Tripadvisor. I canceled my reservations and went with him. I had to prepay transportation and the excursions but that was ok. He told me that my excursions were reserved and that I needed to meet with the onsite concierge to get my certificates/tickets printed. Joe was amazingly helpful, friendly and professional. I appreciated his input and suggestions. Once I arrived and checked in, I was told to go to the concierge. I met with Monica who clearly was screening me for their timeshare presentation. I told her I was away with my cousin celebrating my birthday and my husband was not traveling with me. It was true but I also knew that it disqualifies me as an ideal candidate for their presentation. I told her that neither my cousin nor I were interested in a presentation nor any of the “gifts” they try to use to lure you. I asked for my tickets for the excursions, snorkel that was to be the following day and ATV the day after. Monica walked me to the excursion office and left. The woman at that desk told me that there were no spaces available at all, and not at all during our stay. I was so upset. I told her that I prepaid with Joe and went over the schedule etc and she just shrugged and did not offer any alternatives. I told my cousin what had just happened and that I was super upset because all I wanted for my 50th birthday was to be snorkeling. Also, with the storms coming, it was the only day that the weather would support snorkeling. It had to be that day. My cousin said she would take care of it. Moments later she returned and said that the woman in the excursion office told her that there were only seats for guests who had agreed to do the presentation. I lost my mind. Keeping in mind, I had tickets to these excursions and canceled to go with the hotel concierge and they are pulling this. I found Monica and explained the situation. She insisted we were confused or it was a misunderstanding. I didn’t know how true that was because she asked us not to follow her into the excursion office and wanted to talk to that person alone. Not super transparent and didn’t give us any confidence that this wasn’t another ploy to get us into a presentation. Monica came up with another boat that we could go on and told us that the Buccanner that we had reservations for was for kids and that we wanted Cabo Escapes because it is more of a party. She was right, it was a party… but as far as snorkeling… It was not good. It was a HUGE group of people. We had our own masks and fins but the operators did not pass out fins to anyone. They gave us a 30-40 yard area to basically sit in with 60+ people. No guide, nothing pointed out. Just put a mask on, jump off the boat and look down. As soon as I found a reef of interest, I was told I was 10 feet out of their boundary and needed to go back. Meh. I wish I would have known, we would have found a boat with under 12 people on it. The boat staff was exceptional and I can not bash the operator, this truly was more of a party boat and wasn’t their fault that it was not what we had expected. However, Monica or the excursion planner could have asked us if we wanted a big party or a small group. Not the end of the world. Things we loved The view of the Arches The beach The trolly bus over to the 2 sister properties. The sports bar at Villa del Palmar is awesome. The South American grill by the pool is outstanding. A special kudos to Carlos who was at the South American Grill and then the Buccaneer when it was too stormy for the grill. Carlos is top notch. He embodies hospitality, professionalism and also makes sure that you are taken care of to the highest standard. Even when in different areas of the resort, if Carlos saw us, he greeted us and asked if there was anything we needed or that he could take care of for us. He went the extra mile every single day. Wonderful people like Carlos are what keeps me coming back to Mexico. Carlos made us feel at home, special and incredibly welcome. Housekeeping, wait staff, room service and the maintenance staff were also exceptional. Breakfast buffet and the Mexican food buffet we had were very good. Good vegetarian and vegan options. Ask the server to ask the chef for something if you do not see a veg or vegan option that you like. They came up with wonderful creations for me. The spa and the hydration area are beautiful. The therapists were very nice and professional. The prices seem inline with the in resort spas. We used our spa credit there for pedicures and then booked additional services at Eden Spa, just down the road. 10 minute walk or a $9 cab. Anywhere downtown or the Marina will cost $9 one way. You can find a cab just about anywhere. If you are all inclusive, you are given a wrist band. The weird thing for us was that everytime we ordered we were given a regular guest check that we had to print, sign, room number. Every single drink. Even though I asked a few times, I was half expecting to see some percentage per check on my bill at the end, thankfully… that did not happen. Really weird though to have to sign so many slips of paper while being all inclusive. A few more odd things… food and beverage service at the pool stops at 6 usually. It stopped at 5, 2 nights of our stay because of the chance of a storm. The pools and hottubs all close at 8pm but towels aren't available after 5-6pm. All inclusive room service starts at 7:30am and ends at 10:30pm. I was told you could order 24 hours a day for a charge. I tried to do that at 7am one morning and was told no. Mini-bar and in room snacks are not included in all inclusive, odd. At least for the beverages in the mini bar, just order the same item from room service and replace it yourself. Pizzas and quesadillas on room service are the size of a medium pizza. Thankful for the fridge & microwave to reheat. You are given enough coffee for 2 cups and then are expected to pay $15 for the bag of coffee in the room, wait until 8:00 for room service or walk out to the lobby. Seems like with all inclusive it would be a no brainer to refill the coffee bar. I asked the front desk to change a $20 bill into 4 $5.00 so I could tip… I was told that they do not “manage cash” and to ask a cab driver. Huh. The security was quick to make us leave the pool at 8pm but no one seemed to care about the children in the Adults Only hot tubs or that parents were letting their children in the pool with food in their hands and mouths. There were bits of food in the pool and hot tub. Parents… do better! Resort… patrol that stuff. I didn’t need a half eaten graham cracker in the adults only hot tub or cheese pizza floating by in the pool. My cousin went in search of 2 bottles of sparkling water for us to have for our way back to the airport. I was going up front to check out. She was told no twice to bottles of water and when she persisted, she was told that I had checked out 1 minute before so our all inclusive ended. She got upset and found a manager. He said he would find the water for us but by the time he came back, we were being loaded into the shuttle. 10 minutes of utter frustration for my cousin over 2 bottles of water. Their motto is supposed to be “Yes, I can” not I’ll make you jump through senseless hoops. Meanwhile, I’m checking out and listening to the other clerk tell a guest with a later flight, that they were checked out but able to use their all inclusive through lunch time. I was told the very same at check in but here we were being denied water at 10am. Again, nothing that is the end of the world, but for a highly rated all inclusive… I expected better. Overall, we had a great time. Jose (Joe) Pineda & Carlos were instrumental in that. They really went out of his way to make sure we were tended to and that all was good on our trip. Joe even called me on my birthday to wish me a great day and to make sure our snorkeling trip was going to happen and Carlos never stopped making sure that we had what we needed when he was on duty. I could not praise either of them enough. We will for sure keep coming back to Cabo but I do not think we will find ourselves at Villa Del Arco again.

To start 3 of the 4 elevators in the tower i stayed were not functioning. At 300$ per night you would think that the hot water would work in shower, not the case. Dont waste time with all inclusive they still charge a premium fee on about everything

We just left Villa Del Arco on Monday. It is a very clean and maintained resort. The food is fabulous and the rooms are spacious. We stayed 7 nights and every day here was amazing. I would like to give a special thanks to “Chay”, our poolside waiter. He waited on us most of the week and we could not have asked for better service from him. He happily moved umbrellas for shade and quickly returned with whatever we requested. He made our stay especially enjoyable and memorable. Hoping to see him again next year.
