Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Golf and Spa Resort is often celebrated for its inviting atmosphere, with guests particularly enchanted by the ocean views and lush landscaping. The staff's friendliness and prompt golf cart shuttles are highlighted, though a few guests have encountered slow service during busy periods.
While the resort's amenities, including pools and dining options, are generally lauded, some guests question the value, citing steep prices and aggressive timeshare pitches. Despite cleanliness being a strong suit, there are mentions of room maintenance issues and dated decor.

Detailed Reviews
This time we stayed in the penthouse suite celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary. We had an excellent suite and Delfino was our Butler. Butler in the sense of a personal concierge rather than an in-suite waiter. Delfino was quite instrumental in assisting with our suite location and available for assisting with on site services such as restaurant reservations.
On recent visits, we would spend our days at the different pools located in various locations of the property. Since our suite was located near the main pool, we primarily stayed at the main pool which was in close proximity for breakfast at the La Nao restaurant. Our waiter of choice at breakfast was Francisco Cano, who was extremely attentive in providing our beverages and clearing our dishes. He had a great sense of humor, making it a great start to our daily morning ritual. We also enjoyed the Bistro which is an a la carte restaurant opened 24 hours which also serves breakfast and Anna was extremely welcoming and pleasant when the elevator doors opened for breakfast. She walked us to our table and made sure we were content with the table location before dropping us off and walking away.
After breakfast, we would head over to the main pool for an afternoon of fun in the sun and wonderful cocktails. This trip, we had the pleasant opportunity of meeting with Martin Salazar, the pool concierge, who was always smiling and helpful. We also had the great pool waiters of Pablo Toral, Felix, Marcos, Eleazar, Victor, Roberto and Alvaro. All very pleasant and attentive. These fine group of gentlemen continuously ran around the pool with little or no effort.
We enjoyed our dinners at the Quivara Steak House, Tazuna, the Sushi Restaurant and the variety of mall style food court restaurants located at The Market. We were greeted by David Alccaroz Nolasco at The Market who was a great waiter and made sure our drinks were plentiful and to our liking.
Overall our trip was great and Pueblo Bonito was as beautiful as always. They were Covid 19 prepared and we felt safe from the beginning to end.
Looking forward to our next trip in the spring of 2021.
Thank you PB!!

We stayed one night at The Sunset after we stayed a week at Pacifica. We got an executive suite for almost the same price as the most basic room at Pacifica. The room was huge with 2 full bathrooms, a kitchenette, living room, dining table, and huge patio overlooking the ocean. We only ate at the Bistro and a few restaurants at the Market. Breakfast and lunch at the Bistro were delicious. At the Market, we tried El Italiono (very tasty fettuccine with bolognese sauce), Las Crepas (fantastic Nutella crepes), Perfect Balance (Reset and Focus wellness tonics were refreshing), and El Mexicano (delectable pastor style tacos). Be careful for upcharges that aren’t included in your all inclusive plan. We thought the chocolates at The Market were included and ended up getting 4 pieces of chocolates that cost us $12. We went to the sky pool which overlooks the Sunset complex and the Pacifica. The views are gorgeous and pool is refreshing. The complex is huge so it requires golf carts to shuttle you from location to location sometimes on windy switchbacks. My husband got nauseated being carted around. The timeshare salespeople are relentless and quite aggressive and don’t take no for an answer. The WiFi isn’t free at the sister properties, so that was annoying because you had to use your phone to access the menus and sign checks at the restaurants. The beach isn’t swimmable at The Sunset but you could take a shuttle to Rose on Medano. The beach there is spectacular, but the shuttle can be inconvenient as you have to make a reservation and it books up early and only runs once an hour. We traveled during COVID, so I think the property was at 40% capacity. I can’t imagine the place at full capacity as The Market was packed and bustling while we were there and the pools were pretty busy as well. And something strange happened when we called for a bus boy to come to retrieve our bags for check out. He asked to see our voucher for our airport transfer. I showed him my email. He asked me a lot of questions regarding the transfer ( How much did I pay? Why did I choose them? What was the company name?). I am not sure what that was about, but made me feel a little uneasy. Besides a few flaws, our one night stay was largely positive and we would consider staying there again for the right price.

I was helped by Jonathan Ortega on the front desk, super cool guy! Must get the all inclusive package for the value, you will regret paying full price for some of the food they have. It looks like they have more modern rooms from youtube videos that I saw compared to the actual rooms I got, but it was still nice!
Not much for kids to enjoy except for swimming and a very small D&B style arcade, where you still have to pay even with all inclusive, only thing included was some snacks...(ice cream maker was broken when I was there). There was a kid zone also, but I did not explore that.
Cannot swim on beach, but you can reserve shuttle to sister resort at Rose and go into the ocean there. Golf carts were easy enough to call, there are phones available at a lot of the pools and restaurants, or you can just stay at a stop and hope for an empty cart to scoop you up.
Room service usually takes 45 mins, one time it took over 1.5 hours! Perhaps kitchen was busy. Nice little food court, good variety but everything is geared towards an american palate in my opinion. I rate McDonald's at about 5/10, Denny's and iHops around 6~6.5, Panda Express at 5/10, Benihana at 7/10. I think the food quality here is around 6, maybe the Bistro deserves a 7. However, ambiance and service is all 9/10 or 10/10, depending on the time you dine.
Resort itself is about 45 mins away from the airport, Costco and Walmart about 20 mins away. Taxi cost us $20 to the marina ($17 + $3 tip) and coming back was $15 ($14 +$1 tip), we only had $5 bills.

First impressions are very important and so this review will cover the first exposure my wife and I had to PB sunset resort.
Upon approaching the resort from the airport, we were impressed with the layout, cleanliness, and efficiency of the check in process. Oliver had us completed quickly until I noticed that he had overcharged us $300 for the stay. Rather than cancelling the charge, he put a $300 credit on our account. This was fine as the alternative was to leave an actual charge card, not an imprint, at the desk until checkout. The credit worked well for items not included in the all inclusive. Then we were introduced to Sondra at a separate desk who offered us a hour and a half breakfast and resort tour. We were told we would receive either $100 or if we paid $90 we would receive a $400 credit for attending. Time share pressure internal bells rang and we stated that we would get back to her re time and date. Off to the room which Oliver said was ready. A golf cart ride with luggage took us to Bldg 46 where we discovered a room that had been stripped of towels and bedding and needed floor, counter, and bathroom cleaning. Another golf cart ride with luggage back to see Oliver who gave us one key to inspect a different room which was clean and ready. More golf cart riding to pick up keys and finalize registration.
Not a good first impression.

It's been a few years since we stayed at Sunset Beach, but thoroughly enjoyed this stay. Perfect for just hubby & me. We stayed in an Exec Jr suite in bldg 21 - perfect place to take in the beach, hear crashing waves, and watch whales right from our terrace!
We were surprised & relieved at all the Covid virus protections in place - sanitizing stations, hand sanitizer everywhere, masks required everywhere except at beach & pools. Covid tests available on site before our return flight. The therapists at the spa demonstrated their cleanliness by taking clean sheets out of the wrapper in front of me and washing her hands; even asking me to wash my hands, too.
Even with a few restaurants closed due to low visitation over the past year, we had plenty of meal & food options. Splurge on a beach bed 1 day (they gifted us with champagne & bottled water). For lunch, we had shrimp skewers & tempura onion rings from the grill at the main pool. One order was enough for the 2 of us. YUM!

Arriving there check in was pretty easy. If you’re All Inclusive don’t take the first drinks they give you. $46USD for to drinks that are not included in the All Inclusive package. (Many things have extra charge always ask ahead). And EVERY time you order something you have to sign the bill it’s so annoying when you’re just trying to get something quickly. Overall the property is beautiful but it’s so big that I think I that’s where the problems are. Room service is an hour to an hour and a half wait. You need to take shuttles everywhere which makes it kind of annoying when you have to wait 10-15 mins every time you call. They kept forgetting to put towels in our room every time it was cleaned so we had to call every time. It was my friend’s birthday so I requested a ballon arrangement and paid $45USD with no problem. When we got to the room it was 3 foil balloons and 5 regular balloons tied together. Nothing special about it. I personally think it’s a rip off I was expecting something much nicer. The Cabañas on the beach are beautiful $56 per day and you get a bottle of champagne and fruit platter. Food we ordered on the beach was soo good. Taxis to downtown are pretty quick $14USD one way and drop you off anywhere. Make sure to book your shuttle to the airport before you arrive or it’s $115 USD one way. All food and drinks were good from all restaurants can’t complain about anything we ordered. The sky pool is so relaxing and the jacuzzi has a beautiful view. There are many pools I wish we had more time to see all of them. I would definitely like to come back and give it another chance.

We are grateful to have been able to get away. Our home in Cabo never disappoints and our hesitancy to visit during this time was met with the utmost reassurance.
Upon arrival we entered a sanitizing spray unit, our luggage was also sprayed, masks required in all buildings, sanitizer bottles everywhere we went and upon entering some buildings we were literally approached by staff with sanitizer for us. Resort is only allowed 30% capacity (it was 20% when we were there). We literally felt safer here than in the States.
Food quality was superb. La Frida in and of itself was our best dining experience we've had of all time. Every chair, table, golf cart, railing was wiped down after each guest’s departure at pools and restaurants, etc. Room service was always less than 20 minutes. The Market as always has delicious options and never felt crowded.
Everywhere we went - the pools, overall cleanliness, restaurants, landscape, security, ground landscapers, food quality, gym, spa, housekeeping staff, reflect how much passion and dedication each and every staff member at this resort genuinely hold and put forth into their extremely hard work.
Beautiful views, perfect weather, delicious food and much needed relaxation and shenanigans were had by all.
A special shout out to: Zenon and his amazing spirit, service, and killer margarita at La Frida. Noe and Fabiola for perfection also at La Frida. Anibal, Daniel, Omar and Oscar for keeping our experience by the pool perfect from start to finish. Michelle for her genuine smile, service, and birthday surprise at The After. Pedro, our favorite golf cart driver, Alex at the gym - thank you for making our stay special.

We stayed at Sunset Beach at the beginning of the pandemic. We enjoyed awesome ocean and whale views everywhere! Service was friendly and efficient. Food was delicious. We were lucky that the occupancy level was low because of travel restrictions. The hotel staff were very careful about social distancing guidelines and antibacterial gel was available everywhere. Most resort restaurants had to close as days went by. We had a wonderful time!

We were a little apprehensive to travel to Mexico during the pandemic but were quickly put at rest from the moment we arrived at Sunset with their thorough sanitation procedures. They required masks only in the lobby & hallways by guests but all staff wore masks 100% of the time. Our suite was located perfectly between The Market and Sky Pool (our favorite pool by far with spectacular views of the ocean from the cabanas. Alegandro Garcia provided us excellent friendly service there) The resort is spread out on a hillside which we loved as it provide a great view from every spot & we enjoyed the light exercise of exploring the resort. Taxi fee is affordable to downtown and you can catch free shuttle to Pueblo Bonito Rose. The sunrise & sunsets were amazing every night from our room or down at the beach. Between all the Pueblo Bonito resorts there are enough restaurant, pools and activities that our week long vacation was packed with fun options for all!

Overall, I would definitely recommend PB Sunset Beach. The rooms and facilities were very clean and well kept, they had very clear and appropriate measures in place for wearing masks indoors in public areas, and hand sanitizer was readily available. The only complaint I would have was the location of the room, #3027. In no fault of the hotels, our room location was directly in front of a "pickup/drop-off" location and there were multiple nights we were woken up at all hours from disrespectful people arriving/leaving and talking loudly while waiting at the pickup location. My only suggestion would be to move the locations slightly farther away from the entrance of ANY of the rooms if there's no better way to provide sound insulation.

Anyone can visit and enjoy the restaurants and shops at Sunset Beach. If you're staying there you can invite them as guests to swim or sun at pools.
There are not elevators in every building. The ones closer to the ocean don’t have elevators. We’ve been stuck with a stroller and no elevator.
I don't recall ever seeing anyone in a wheelchair at Sunset Beach. That being said, I think that your father could still get around at the resort. Obviously, they have the golf carts that haul people to and from all locations in the resort. Your father would either need to be able to get up into the back of the carts, or sit in the passenger seat up front. All of the buildings have elevators, so that should not be a problem. The biggest problem would be if the wedding is on the beach, or any of the wedding events are on the beach. It might be difficult for him to negotiate getting around in the sand.
