This was our second trip to Bahia. We were here 3 years ago and had a great experience – which led us to come back. This one ended well, but was pretty shaky at the start, so this review will be positive, but somewhat mixed. The hotel is lovely. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. Erika was great before we got here getting us set up with airport transportation. The concierge staff got us reservations at a variety of great restaurants, and we really enjoyed the Bar Esquina restaurant at the hotel. The pool is very nice, the bar at the pool is great and Itzy took great care of us each day we were there.
The hotel is not on the beach, but has a relationship with the Sur Beach Club. During our last visit, we had no problem scheduling our time at the beach, and we returned in large part because we enjoyed the beach so much. Imagine our surprise upon checking in at Bahia when the staff person told us that we needed reservations to get beach chairs, and when he called the beach club he was told that they had no availability for the first 3 days of our stay (we were in Cabo for 5 days). At that point, I told him I came to Cabo to relax at the beach, and if they couldn’t provide that for us, we’d give up our reservations and find somewhere else to stay. He made another call, and all of a sudden we had reservations for each day at the beach club. However, they told us that many people use the beach club who are not from the Bahia Hotel, and that it was really best to call for beach club reservations well in advance. This is our biggest criticism of the hotel. Nowhere on their website do they tell you to make beach reservations in advance, or warn you that when you get to their hotel, you may get shut out from being able to spend any time at the beach. That is significant, critical information to withhold from prospective hotel guests. So lesson #1, if you are thinking of staying at Bahia and you want to relax at the beach, make sure you arrange IN ADVANCE to get seats at the Sur Beach Club before you arrive. We did suggest when we checked out, that some information about this be put on the hotel website or in other communications with hotel visitors, so we’ll see what they may do.
We reserved a deluxe single room, and the first room we were assigned was on the main floor, just around the corner from the bar and restaurant area. While the room itself was very nice, it was so noisy that we didn’t get to sleep until after 1 a.m. The next morning, we asked to change rooms and they moved us to a room of similar size but away from noise. It apparently was a higher priced room, which they originally were going to charge us more for, but ultimately, they comped it, which was appreciated. They also upgraded our breakfast package from continental breakfast to a full American breakfast, which was very nice as well. So, lesson #2, if you have problems with what is delivered, and you advocate for yourself, if you are dealing with a good business, they will work with you, which is what we experienced. What began as a disappointing and stressful experience turned out to be the very nice and relaxing vacation we had hoped for. We credit the good people on the staff of the Bahia Hotel for this. All in all, it is a very nice place for a relaxing getaway in Cabo.
