Although there are always red flags, that is more due to liability purposes - people have drowned on this beach but it was usually due to night time excursions involving too much alcohol and being crushed into rocks. Many homeowners in Terrasol swim here on a regular basis and you don't have to be a Navy Seal, you just have to watch the conditions - only swim on very calm days when the swells are minimal and don't go out too far. You do need to be a competent swimmer and know what to do if you're caught in a rip but those are rare here. For instance, every beach in Australia has far worse rips than here and millions swim daily (but they grew up doing it). If you're only used to lakes, best to stay out. Or walk 5 minutes to the marina and get a water taxi (5 minute ride) to Medano Beach. As for the walk to town, if it takes you 15 minutes, you're walking very slowly.
